ACT Broadband Bangalore Reviews Posted: 29 Nov 2012 01:02 PM PST I had an interesting experience with ACT today. When i had applied for the connection, in October'12, the executive who visited my apartment in Cox Town, suggested that i keep the wifi router(cisco linksys e900) in the middle of the apartment in order to ensure even coverage thru out. Me being the sometimes-i-think-i-know-it-all, decided that i need to keep in a particular room only and not as per the executive's suggestion. It so happened that after the connection was done, a few days later i realized that the executive was correct and the whole apartment was not getting covered. So i raised a request with ACT cc on Saturday, 24th November, to relocate the copper wire so that wifi router can be placed in a more central location in the apartment. They did take a few days to respond, but 3 days later on Tuesday i got a call from one of the engineers - Sandeep. I was busy on that day and the next day, so I asked him to come to my apartment on Thursday. I started moving the wifi router in different places in my apartment to check for best signal and during that i hear the bell ring and Sandeep's at the door. I hadn't decided yet where to place the router and he patiently waited(atleast 15 mins) until i finally did. After i decided, he removed the wire from the existing location and then he himself went to the watchman to get the keys for the terrace(even though i offered) and moved the wire to the location i wanted. While he was setting it up in a particular location which i had decided first, i kinda changed my mind and told him that i need to move it to another location and without any hesitation, he obliged and set up the whole thing neatly. Once done, he asked me to test the connection, and only after i was satisfied, he decided to leave. The whole setup process must have taken an hour and during that time Sandeep was extremely patient and polite and when he was leaving i offered to pay him for the work he had done and he refused take even a single paise from me and kept saying that its a free service and that he won't accept any money. I insisted quite a few times, and he still refused to take any money. I was really impressed with the professionalism in him. Infact, all the ACT staff i have met face to face have been very professional. The sales executive who came to my apartment to check feasibility and to collect the application form behaved well. Even the engineers who had come to setup the connection the first time behaved very well(they came on a Sunday and I was acting like a jerk because i kept changing the appointment time with them.) My experience with ACT has been really great till now and i wish them the best and hope they render similar service to all their customers. Special kudos to Sandeep. Cheers |

BSNL Broadband BBG Combo UL 2150 in Gurgaon (175GB at 4mbps) Posted: 29 Nov 2012 12:13 PM PST Quote: Incorrect. I've been on 8+ mbps plans and have been allocated the 59.x.x.x range from 117.x.x.x. Plus, from my experience, this only happens if your plan price is 2k or above. In this case, it's well over 2k. @Chromaniac, Unfortunately, the 59.x.x.x range is heavily mismanaged so expect poor pings to poor speeds and everything impossible you can think of. I was on this specific plan which you subscribed and moved back to 1700 (4mbps up-to 100gb) within 2 days as I lost access 117.x.x.x range and speed was pathetic, even when my port sync rate was setup properly. While I can't guarantee the above to be same for you (since, different states) - I recommend waiting until your port sync rates are setup properly. They should be more than 5mbps down and around 1mbps up. Here's the speed you should be getting : P.S, no need to be jealous of the speed and ping above, they are crappy in the morning (around 2mbps/200+ pings) PS.8Mbps?Which plan are you using? Is it unlimited?. |

Ajmal Kasab has been hanged. Congress finally achieves something. Posted: 28 Nov 2012 11:32 AM PST Pretty sure Einstein, Mozart, Picasso, Van Gogh, Socrates, Grigori Perelman, and thousands of others weren't in it for the money or land or gold. Maybe if we take such constraints out of society, there'll be more room for creativity, innovation, risky new ventures? I believe that a future where machines do all the production tasks, humans are free to choose how they spend their time would be far more productive. |

Also, make sure that he declares its value as $200 or something around that. You could also get it shipped via USPS (cheap) but India Post manages the Indian part of shipment, if you are willing to take the risk. Also, I have noticed that you have a better chance of avoiding duties with USPS - India Post compared to all other carriers. Still, it could have been just me though. |

AmazonGlobal Saver Shipping: FREE AmazonGlobal Shipping on Orders of $125 or More! Posted: 25 Nov 2012 12:29 PM PST Quote: Almost everything on amazon is cheaper than it is on flipkart, ebay or even in the stores in Delhi. Key is buying things from Amazon that will not get damaged in transit. Amazon.com: American Tourister Laptop Case (Black with Grey): Clothing This bag was selling for Rs 3900 in More Megamart near my home in Delhi today. Some SSD drives are 50% cheaper on Amazon compared with Flipkart even after accounting for custom duty. I have a feeling that we in India are getting ripped off by both the retailers as well as by our government in the form of taxes and bribes that are extorted from business owners on each step of the way. Custom duties of India alone can't account for this price differential. Something is very very wrong with the retail business in India. |
Tata DOCOMO GSM: Intra Circle MNP Posted: 25 Nov 2012 12:17 PM PST Maybe you all are logically right. It seems TD encouraging us to move from them, because MTS gonna acquire Aircel. Aircel has the highest mkt share in TN next to Airtel. And TD sharing aircel towers in TN circle. |

Posted: 25 Nov 2012 11:01 AM PST I have bought around 15 books from Infibeam and Flipkart combined since September. Both are equally good and do deliver. I pay by netbanking only and have never used COD because I use my office address. Mostly I place the order where the price is lower. I had problem only once with infibeam because they sent the book through a courier company called 'India on time' (indiaontime.com) and the courier company just kept my packet with them for a few days and updated the online status as 'door locked'. This is when my office was open. Clearly this courier company was lying. So, I called the infibeam customer support and they followed up with the courier company to get the book delivered next day. Infibeam's packets that are sent through Blue Dart are delivered very fast. Flipkart's delivery is very slow. For my last 5 orders, they have always taken 3 or more working days to deliver the book that is shipped from Bombay or Bangalore. Buying imported books direct from Amazon sometimes works out to be cheaper and faster than Infibeam or Flipkart. I have bought a few books from Amazon and like their service. Also for some books that I intend to read only once and that are not meant for use in my office, I check the price of kindle edition because it is almost always cheaper and deliver is instant. Hope it helps those who are thinking about buying books online in future. |
Dual boot LM & W7 - Need help on updating LM Posted: 25 Nov 2012 10:47 AM PST ^Yes. Download http://download.cnet.com/MiniTool-Pa...-10962200.html. rebuild MBR . Reboot into windows, run the wizard and delete the Linux partition. Then install ubuntu. Read this on the Ubuntu forums long ago, should work. Although, there might be more efficient ways of doing the same. |
Terminating mtnl connection...help needed guyz...! Posted: 25 Nov 2012 10:21 AM PST There are no loopholes. Go to the CSC and get your connection terminated. They'll created a work order and your kind will be disconnected in less than a week at the most. If the modem had been taken on on rent it has to be returned. Security deposit if any, will be given back to you. |

How to upgrade to Windows 8 for just Rs. 699 Posted: 24 Nov 2012 12:39 PM PST Quote: I ordered a Rs 1999 upgrade today, got the upgrade key in email, downloaded the ISO and burned it on a DVD but am yet to install it. Can I postpone the installation of this Windows 8 Pro upgrade now for say next 6-9 months? Will my upgrade key work for activation 6-9 months from now? I'm looking for a firm answer but FAQs are saying this discounted upgrade can be ordered till so and so date but no one is talking about any deadline for installation and activation of upgrade. I ordered to just take the advantage of the ongoing discount. I'd like to upgrade eventually but can't do it right now because some softwares that I use for stock trading are not available for Windows 8 yet. Also, I'm waiting for Office 2013 launch before doing the upgrade. |
Can I connect multiple devices to the MTNL router? Posted: 24 Nov 2012 12:23 PM PST A minimum SNR of around 6 dB is required for a stable sync at 1mbps, provided attenuation is reasonable. So anything > 30 is beyond awesome :D Attenuation < 20 is considered good ;) |

Best broadband in Kalamassery, Kochi Posted: 22 Nov 2012 01:28 PM PST Hi, Thanks for your reply. My MTS gives me maximum speeds of 200 kpbs, but most of the times it is below 100 kbps. I want a connection for home use for my family, specifically for skype to video chat. The clarity is bad and the connection gets stuck several times. I was wondering whether it is advisable to go for a bsnl connection in that case. What speeds do you get from your bsnl connection and how far is your connection located from the exchange? My home is approx. 1 km from the kalamassery exchange via road and radially. |
Need Advice from MTNL Mumbai users Posted: 22 Nov 2012 12:40 PM PST Hi, I am currently on DSL_Unlimited_995_Combo. (Rent Free Phone with no calls included) @ INR 995 a month Initially when bought, it was 1 Mbps unlimited fixed day/night down and up of 0.5 Mbps day/night. (NO FUP AT ALL) Now 6 months later they have upgraded it to 1 Mbps unlimited fixed day, 2 Mbps unlimited night and upload of 0.5 Mbps day/night. (NO FUP AT ALL) I'm presently quite happy as Night is now 2 Mbps. For now its okay, best bang for the buck for me at 1K INR. Speed Test Below @ 1.15AM Night Speed 23rd November 2012 Now, I want to upgrade to a better speed connection from MTNL. Currently, I have two choices. A) Upgrade the DSL plan to this , Xpress Non Combo Unlimited 2000 (Add 200 or 250 INR + maybe for Telephone rent or something, not sure) @ 2000 to 2250 INR a month. 2 Mbps + unlimited fixed day/night down of 150 GB FUP per Month, 1.13 Mbps fixed day/night down NO FUP afterwards and upload of 0.5 Mbps day/night. (150GB FUP And then 1.13 Mbps NO FUP AT ALL) Now, As you may see from the speed above at night-time, I understand I'm not entitled to 2Mbps+ even in the night as it's just an extra speed they are providing for night-time. I can't really complain as the deal is 1 Mbps, but now they offer at night 2 Mbps which is about 1.45~1.75 Mbps to be approx, not close to 2 Mbps. So, but increasing the plan and fee to +1-1.25K INR from presently, I may be able to upgrade to double the speed. I will be happy with 2 Mbps+ and 150GB FUP a month. I'm a heavy torrent downloaded too in some months, but I don't think to the mark of 150GB+ a month, so this should be sufficient. I'm really more excited if surfing, gaming ping and also YouTube & streaming videos will be faster than what i have now. I'm not sure with gaming ping increase as it has more to do with connectivity latency rather than bandwidth speed, so it may be the same but I'm okay with MTNL's below 30 ping for Indian gaming servers on steam. Overall the upgrade will make me get 1 Mbps more and I have to pay 1000 to 1250 INR more, so its double the speed for the double the fee upgrade, using my same phone and DSL modem + setup etc. B) Upgrade to FTTH plan and this one, Fibre Thrill 2590 (Add 200 or 250 INR + rent to also have my existing land-line for phone calls without the DSL, not sure of the rent) 20 Mbps + unlimited fixed day/night down & 10 Mbps upload total of 150 GB FUP per Month, afterwards 1.35 Mbps unlimited fixed day/night down & 1 Mbps upload NO FUP (150GB FUP And then 1.35 Mbps NO FUP AT ALL) So, but increasing the plan and fee to +1.60-1.85K from presently, I may be able to upgrade to 19 times the speed. Off-course this is a dream speed for Indian Retail Standards so You can Imagine all the bells and whistles with the Internet experience on this and I'm sure the pings will be below 30 or maybe less who knows. This is a thrilling deal compared to the first, but the problem is I don't live in a building, I live in a 2 floor house of Mhada colony and secondly, I'm not sure if its available. The Charkop Telephone Exchange is just less than 2 Kms away from here. Also, I may need to Spend an additional 2,000 INR for setup and Fiber Modem, which is okay for the one-time. So, on one hand I don't need to upgrade any equipment, just change the plan and I will get double the speed to 2 Mbps and Double the fee of 2000 INR & on other hand I will get 19 times the speed and Double and a half the fee of 2600 INR + Installation of 2000 one time. Second Deal sounds good, But I think the Fiber is still in its infancy here in Mumbai and I may not be able to get it setup on the fly as just going and changing my DSL plan. If anyone in Mumbai or Charkop has taken FTTH plan please let me know. Also if any of you guys are on the 2 Mbps express plans of DSL with MTNL, would like to know if the speed is as promised or better. Or if it will be just like that like my night-time speed promised 2 Mbps but getting 1.45~1.75 Mbps actual. Lastly, Also if we do a rough calculation based on 150 GB FUP vs the Speed of the internet & Time for enjoying high-speed. 2 Mbps is approx 200 kbps download. So 150 GB x 1024 = 153600 MB x 1024 = 157286400 KB 157286400 KB divide by 200 kbps download (2 Mbps Speed) = 786432 seconds divide by 60 = 13107.2 minutes divide by 60 = 219 hours divide by 24 = 9.11 Days worth of continuous torrent download to Deplete the 150 GB FUP. 20 Mbps is approx 2000 kbps or real 2 mbps download. So So 150 GB x 1024 = 153600 MB 153600 MB divide by 2 mbps download (20 Mbps Speed) = 76800 seconds divide by 60 = 1280 minutes divide by 60 = 21.4 hours, which is obviously not even a complete day of continuous torrent download to Deplete the 150 GB FUP. So, Is again the speed worth the FUP and the amount of time we may be able enjoy before its depleted for the month?? Then After FUP the NO FUP period 2 Mbps becomes 1.13 Mbps ( About 0.13 Mbps more than my max speed currently) Upload is the same 0.50 Mbps (Same as currently) 20 Mbps becomes 1.35 Mbps (About 0.35 Mbps more than my max speed currently) Upload becomes 1 Mbps (0.50 Mbps more than my max speed currently) So I get for between 1000 INR upgrade and 1600 INR upgrade, the real unlimited speed gains after FUP in download of .13~.35 Mbps unlimited and upload speed of 0~.50 Mbps unlimited. If I only wanted to download 150 GB on current 1 Mbps day and 1.45~1.75 Mbps at night with the 995 INR plan. It would be about half the amount of time extra on the first upgrade (Since Night is faster than day on currently) would be.. 9.11 days divide by 2 and multiply by 3 = 13.67 days. Just 4.55 days more of waiting or keeping my machine "ON" to get 150 GB without any upgrade. And the then the second upgrade would be about 12 days more to download the 150 GB as the 20 Mbps would deplete 150 GB is less than 24 hours. Hmm, Is it all worth it? Okay if I only intend to surf, play games & watch YouTube and Streaming videos but not download, Its a seems good deal for upgrade A and Great deal for Upgrade B. But if I do decide to download, doesn't it seem really not worth the money for the FUP they have installed?? I'd only save four days of electricity on paying 1000 INR more and 12 days of electricity paying 1600 more, and I don't think unless your playing Games 24 hours for 14 days on a stretch, which would use up 500 Watts excess continuous would really affect my bill by 1k or even 1.6k INR to have the pc "ON" for 4 days to 12 days just for downloading 150 GB's?? Please let me know your views, feedback's or if you have any suggestions. All welcomed and appreciated!! Regards, Nick PS: I'm paying additional 750 INR for reliance netconnect+ 2 Mbps speed and 5GB FUP & 0.14 Kbps NO FUP wireless internet too as a backup. (Only for Backup internet, not for real usage.) |

Posted: 22 Nov 2012 10:58 AM PST HBO is quite well established and has a history of many "Superhit" shows spanning more than a Decade. Showtime has many shows like dexter, californication, weeds running for many years. On the other hand Starz has just "spartacus". so it does not commands the same brand value has the other 2 |
MTNL Broadband: need best wifi router !!!!! Posted: 22 Nov 2012 10:25 AM PST I put this one DSL model + wif-fi router + normal wire router 3in1. TD-W8961ND - Welcome to TP-LINK From 3 months and its fantastic, no disconnects and no problems. Additionally have also put this TL-WA730RE - Welcome to TP-LINK because usually wi-fi home routers only good for single floor house, but my house is ground and 1st, so signal is weak on ground floor as dsl router is upstairs, So have a range extender installed for each floor your want WI-FI |

In2cable net 2MBPS unlimited (no fup) @ INR1340 per month! Posted: 22 Nov 2012 09:59 AM PST I'm happy for you. The speed is not the problem when I had in2cable, they do give more than promised too. It was with the downtime, I guess It could have been the branch that operates here in Kandivali maybe low-life's , Anyways I wont ever try a private player for my primary internet as I use it for my trading work, down-time during a serious trade means I may lose much much more than I pay for a ISP for the whole year in one go. I'm currently excited about the new MTNL FTH service with 20mbps and 150gb FUP and then 1.30MBPS Unlimited for NO FUP plan, maybe will upgrade from mtnl dsl to fiber next year. |
