Apple Wants $2.5 Billion From Samsung For Infringed Patents

a type of article that is becoming a rarity on the verge.

The myth of pinch-to-zoom: how a confused media gave Apple something it doesn't own | The Verge

they just showcased that apple does not really own a patent on pinch to zoom. they just make it sound like it and media has started believing it.

Microsoft Skydrive for Google Android

the problem would be after two years. dropbox would probably cut your account space to 2GB or whatever. and that means you would have to get back all your data. unless they change their policy.

i know about google. they do not delete your data if you downgrade your plan. you just cannot add anything more to it. they still keep the data available to you. it sort of becomes a read-only account until you free up space till your allotted limits.

Breif review of Airtel 4G LTE USB Dongle from Bangalore

The Airtel gut assured me that they would maintain 10 MBps as minimum speed in the course of time.

I need one clarification from experts in this forum on a moment which made me awestruck.
We can easily get rated speed inside our country when we point speedtest.net to Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai servers.
But the speedtest meter hit back to 40 MBps instantly even if i point to a server which is located in USA.
How can that be possible, please explain me guys.
As i haven't seen more than 4MBps against a USA server in our country.

40Mbps to US Servers from India is quiet unbelievable, I'll check the 4g speeds again later today & update. BTW what was the latency to US Servers

AFAIK most Indian Operators 3g networks were built on 21 Mbps theoretical limit equipment(also because of the 5Mhz lean spectrum allocated to each operator). Most users reported max speeds of about 5-7 Mbps on 3g but 'Airtel's 4G networks theoretical limit is 100 Mbps(although they claim only upto 40 Mbps)' - so speeds of about 30-40 Mbps will be quiet common on a fixed(non moving) device & this shall remain for the most part if such FUP is maintained by Airtel or another operator

in any case, speeds really does not matter much. except for a handful of services, you are not going to gain much from having a 40mbps plan. the whole problem is with the pricing of bandwidth. paying 100 bucks for 1GB of data at 40mbps? what is the point?

Yes rightly said, 40Mbps at such FUP is indeed not of much use. I can use up all my limit within 10 mins & would then have to stick to 128 Kbps for the rest of the month, Smartbytes is very expensive too. I mainly use this for browsing or times when i need to download something quickly & shall maintain a second wired connection with a much higher FUP for normal usage

TIKONA THE WORST ISP IN INDIA
let it be billing or service.

Plan change will not make any difference to service. It will help in getting some stable speed because as per policy, 1:? ratio is less for SME plans as compared to home user plans.

You made a mistake of paying money in advance. I don't think Tikona will return you easily. Tikona customer support is very poor. Customer never gets quick assistance. They attend customers too professionally. Some policies are really in their favor. If you register complaint through email, you will get docket no and that will also send by official in automated system format.
At the end, connectivity problem remains same.

I've not found that to be the case. Even with 100mbit/s symmetrical it can take quite a long time for some torrents to reach a 1.0 ratio... but worst to worst, how hard is it to set your torrent client to only upload a certain amount when the connection is installed? Or in the case of uTorrent 3.0 and later, there is bandwidth capping available in the preferences window.

So frankly, not a very valid excuse when the fix is so simple (and your responsibility in the first place).

New BSNL Broadband Connection charge summary

Posted: 25 Aug 2012 11:55 AM PDT

Hi,
Note: I am planning to get a new broadband connection from BSNL as Airtel drops to 256 kbps after FUP making it difficult for my work while BSNL has 750UL plan where speed after FUP is 512kbps.

Now, I walked in to the bsnl customer service center and they gave me two forms for a new connection.
I am planning to opt for Combo Plan(Telephone Rental Free) UL750.
Now, about the forms
1. BroadBand Form
The fare details are as follows:
a. Installation charege - 250
b. One month Plan Rental in advance - 750
c. Modem charge ( Planning to take adsl ) - 1100
d. Broadband usage charge for first billing cycle - 750
e. Service tax.

But there is another separate form for new telephone connection which states
Registration charge - 500.

So my queries are:
1. Apart from (a-e) items which I have listed, will I need to pay 500 extra as registration charge for new telephone connection? If so will I get a telephone instrument for this charge or is that separately chargeable?
2. Is (b) refundable?

Please help as I am very sure in exchange they will not help me clearly for these doubts :)

Note: I don't want any telephone at all. I just want broadband. But I think telephone is mandatory. please clarify.

BSNL Wimax question

Posted: 25 Aug 2012 10:48 AM PDT

BTS-Base Transceiver Station.
Rural area Clause means Villages and places where the wired Broadband service is not possible.

I'm using Outdoor CPE and i could receive signal from 3BTS.(Signal strength should be minimum 10db and the normal range is 25db). The service engineer told me that we can use the Outdoor CPE within my state(Tamilnadu) but the BTS should present in that area. The BTS wont be there in the urban areas. You may check the Wimax coverage map in BSNL website.
In my opinion, shifting the outdoor CPE is difficult since it needs straight forward installation.

I too am seeing this issue since Sunday. All scheduled recordings - series or otherwise fail to record. I don't want to reset and erase all my recordings. One of my relatives had come on TV and I had recorded that episode. I don't want to lose that recording.

Another new thing is that damn channel 100. Earlier if I am watching Sony 111, and put my set-top box on standby, then on switching on it would got to channel 111 but now it always comes to channel 100.

Is reset the only option? If yes what is the process? Has anyone got a response from Tatasky?

This is what i experience in 2 occasions. 2 months back we got ACT broadband for Rs. 1299/- per month plan for our office. It was 10MBPS speed with FUP of 75GB(after crossing 75GB speed will be 2MBPS). Every one was satisfied with speed. But one day we lost internet connectivity, customer support told us that there is a fiber cut and it will be repaired in 4 working hours. After lots of calls(it takes 10-15 minutes to reach a customer care executive at their number 42840000) and followups connections was restored after 2 DAYS. Once again there is an outage yesterday and it took one full day to restore the connection. The customer support team at ACT is a bunch of useless peoples. The guy comes to the site for checking the connectivity doesn't know how to configure a router. Their tech support peoples say same dialogues like i will check with back-end peoples and get back to you or this will be resolved in next 4 working hours......

so if you are planning to get ACT BB for your office please don't do that mistake, otherwise after few days you will be busy in posting a review like me.

The speed what they are giving is really good, but their service is not at all RELIABLE. So we are discontinuing ACT BB and will find a reliable ISP even if it is costly and slow than ACT.

Looking at the disgruntled post below my earlier report, feels like it's time to post an update:-

My ACT connection has been awesome this week. Blazing speeds and not a single outage (well almost not - there was an instance when I couldn't log-in, but that fixed itself within a minute. I was already on the phone with CC By then and they advised my to use ipconfig /release then /renew. Meh.... but the person on the phone was courteous and competent, the latter of which I'm used to with Airtel but the former being a decidedly rare quality)

I really hope ACT keeps this up, I'm tempted to surrender my Airtel connection even before the 1 month vetting period that I'd initially planned for. ACT is literally my only hope against the malicious clutches of Airtel right now, so dear ACT, please don't screw up! :grumpy: Impress me with your service as you have the past two weeks and I'll be one loyal customer for a long long time. (Well - or at least until you implement some hare-brained tariff hike scheme like Airtel)
