Autoblog’s Top 10 Concept Cars of 2010 – Click above to read the list Just under 70 concept cars were rolled out by automakers from around the globe at this year’s major auto shows. These swoopy, futuristic showstoppers usually preview what’s to come in terms of new designs and technology, and in some cases, concept cars directly foreshadow full-on production models that aren’t too far down the pipeline. We’ve scanned back through our full raft of concept car coverage over the past year to pick these examples, our ten best concept car and truck reveals from 2010, ranked in order as judged by our staff. | Posted: 30 Dec 2010 10:10 PM PST Namasté, a Tamsen 40 M super yacht, has many unique attributes that will no doubt make it interesting and attractive to numerous yacht enthusiasts. Unveiled in 2008 at the Festival International de la Plaisance in Cannes and at the Monaco Yacht Show, the vessel is a full meter wider than most yachts of the same length – 40 meters (approximately 131 feet.) This extra width allows for more interior space that makes the yacht capable of accommodating 12 guests and provides a generous number of recreational areas. Even at a width of 8.60 meters, however, Namasté still manages to look sleek and trim on the water.
Another unusual architectural attribute of Namasté is the use of advanced composite materials such as epoxy-based E-glass laminates, which are of higher quality and deal well with the common problems of excess weight, stiffness, and osmosis. One of the most exciting aspects of these materials is their ability to increase sound insulation. The Namasté even has a non-vibrating floor. But the state-of-the-art composites also help to maintain temperatures throughout the vessel, assisting the chilled-water air conditioning systems (which convert to heat in the winter) in keeping the yacht comfortable and dehumidified.
If you like to eat outdoors, Namasté is equipped for every meal in various locations from the main deck to the sun deck to the sky lounge to the foredeck. The yacht is a tri-decker with a main deck that contains a living area and a saloon with two lounges and a bar, a reading area, and an office. The galley and the cockpit are also on the main deck, as is the master cabin in the bow. The main deck contains a Jacuzzi, seating, a dining area, and a bimini-sunshade on the forecastle.
While interior designer Julia Tamsen works with each owner of a Tamsen 40 M to create a unique interior atmosphere, Namasté's modern design is created with primarily angular fixtures and furniture. The earth tones of light-colored wood, off-white, brown, and animal prints are in leathers and fabrics, and the floors are graced with Kashmir carpets. The upper deck and staircases are white and light-colored wood grain for a bright and classic look.
The upper deck has a sun deck and an adjacent sky lounge with a panoramic view, as well as an open area with a retractable large roof window. The sky lounge includes a dining area that seats six and a separate lounge area with coffee tables and comfortable chairs. This deck features large glass windows and sliding doors. The sun deck can be quickly transformed into a dance floor in the evening, making it a great open party atmosphere.
The intermediate wheelhouse deck contains the captain's cabin and Portuguese bridges. Located on the port side where the captain can quickly access the wheelhouse, the captain's cabin accommodates two persons and has its own bathroom.
The lower deck contains four carpeted guest cabins midships and three double crew cabins in the bow, each equipped with its own bathroom. Aft are the tender garage, swimming platform, and engine room. Separate staircases and passages for the crew allow for more privacy for the guests and greater service efficiency, and a dumbwaiter from the galley to the sky lounge and sun deck make food service especially easy. The galley is equipped with professional caliber appliances, exceptional ventilation, electric doors, and an unusually large amount of storage space, including cold storage.
The guest cabins, which can be reached from a staircase connecting them with the saloon, feature off-white linens and large hull windows. Two of the cabins contain a daybed that will comfortably accommodate families with children, and a 24-hour self-service bar is readily available to guests
The owner's stateroom is enormous by most yacht standards and includes three walk-in wardrobes and an office with a widescreen LCD television. The spacious bathroom contains a large oval bathtub, two sinks, and a mirror spanning the entire width of the dressing area.
The tender garage has space for two jet skis and a motor scooter, and it contains laundry facilities. The vessel features several systems usually reserved for cruise liners, such as a sewage treatment system that is ecologically sound and keeps the water clean throughout the yacht. The equipment in the wheelhouse is also similar to that of cruise liners or 50 to 60-meter yachts.
Namasté has two MTU 16VM93 Common Rail engines and can reach a maximum speed of 30 knots and a cruising speed of 22-24 knots. With its hard top and gold lacquered hull, Namasté is an impressive sight as it reaches exciting speeds despite its generous proportions.
