My local beam technician came and told me that they can give me a connection. They moved some connection to another box and freed a slot for me. Thanks a lot for your help Bobbyguitarist!!! After I made the payment and provided the required documents and filled the form, he asked to see the room where it will be connected. I showed him the room and he said that it is too far inside and he expected the room to be close to the main door. He said that Beam is allowed to use only upto 70meters cable per person. But I said that I want it in my room and not in the drawing room. He made some calls and said that he doesn't think it is possible. I told him that I will pay for the extra cable used but he said that it is not possible for them to go beyond 70m. He said that the distance from the box to my drawing room is 70meters and to the room where I want internet is an additional 40meters, so totally around 110meters. He said that I should use a wired router and then take the two cables into my room (I have 2 PCs). But that will be very problematic as with the cables going across from one room to another, also I have an inverter battery in my room so if the router is in my room I will be able to connect to the net when there are power cuts and won't be able to do so if the router is outside my room. And when I asked him about the speed he said that we won't get full speeds, for example for 20mbps connections we will get only about 18mbps from the cable in the drawing room and if we use a wired router the speed will reduce to about 16mbps.

Can someone please help me? What should I do? Any solutions/suggestions? TIA.

90 bucks for 300mb is any day better if you're going to use 3G.

Second, your modem does support wifi. Are you using wifi currently on some other device and just need help with setting it up or do you want to set up a wifi network at your place ?

Post FUP should be 512kbps, as mentioned on Airtel website.

Understood . My Reliance DVR dish, and the D2H dish are a floor below mounted at the same level .

The tech says, that the 90 cm dish is too large to be installed on the side of a building, and would need to be installed on the terrace .. ( 8 stories higher! )

Thats a lot of wiring!


On the side, what did you folks pay for the STB and for the setup ? I was told the setup cost for the DVR is 1500/- !

I think that tata sky is done with the family pack. Whilst there is only one movie channel so they could add Movies Now HD. I don't see Zee Cinema HD happening as HD subscriber base won't like paying premium charge for that channel as much as they would be willing to pay for MN HD.

This router will not work as it is for ADSL, not cable broadband.

You will need to buy a different router, then call your provider to do one or two things:

1. Reset the MAC binding
2. Ensure your account is set to allow PPPoE access (this is optional)

Once you've done this, you'll need to log in to the router's web interface and put in your user credentials (whether static IP or if you get the account set to PPPoE then also the username, password & service name).

Theyll lay fibre to your place. Assuming, you want the connection in Kochi. Why don't you check out TATA comm's sme division or bsnl enterprise (enterprise numbers are present on the enterprise section of the website). I've got no idea of the cost involved. Does bsnl provide ftth in your area ?

Wait a min, I'd forgotten about 3G. Any operator with hspa should serve your needs.

The latency in 3g will be too much and there are virtually no unlimited plans.

I saw a few DVR boxes manufactured in October 2010 at Trivandrum . The MRP listed is 6490, but the store owner says since they are not moving, he might sell them cheaper.

Qn : Is this model good enough , or should I wait for d2h to bring out a new STB?

Do the D2h folks to check for connectivity first ,or only after purchase of the STB / DVR?

Paytm is very slow today and I am fearing to take risk of recharging such high denomination on a 3rd party website. Main concern is whatif they didn't provided me 10 GB data.

It actually is, being a noob I had less hard of a time handling it :D

I might get the camera from nearest Croma, as I tried both cameras there to begin with.

Just not sure if they offer the camera body without the kit lens.

I think I should rather use the kit lens as being a noob, I won't realize the difference much and later upgrading it..

errm. if the item is streamed, it is streamed. there is no file to fetch from the remote servers. it's not blocking tools to download a file. the concept of streaming is changed. that probably means that the item is not cached because it is streamed. you pause it, it does not download the rest of the video to your computer.

Hi

I am new user of MTNL UL DATA599 monthly plan. I got it in month of may.
when it started running it ran very good almost 10 days but after that it started very strange things. from that day ADSL LED is unstable.
I have given complaints so many time to customer care.
they have rule to resolve issue within 24 hours as they say but it doesn't seem they do within 24 usually.
my first complain was handled after 10 days which is quite wired.
and the strange thing is that someone call from there on land line phone weather you're available or not and they additionally take the mobile no. but don't give a call on mobile and when you receive a call the guys asks is Internet OK ? (why he asked you would probably think he's done something? that's why he's asking like this)
suppose if that time internet is fine for two minutes and you say him ok he won't listen and ends the call and complain closed at behind. No one visits and check the ADSL Modem if any problem is there but i know it has appropriate settings. which it should have. The same happened to me today i gave a complain online and when i wasn't at house my wife received a call from them and she said to him I was not at home and he ended up the call but I now checked the complaint it says no complaint pending then how it sorted ? I simply don't understand why I pay to face such problems.
plus they have changed the IVR system of 1504 and no updates anywhere how do i get to know about where i should go ?

Well u guys have exactly mentioned what i am mentioning. When someone smokes, they take care that it doesnt get into the faces of their friends. Coz when u try to save ur friend, u unknowingly blow it in such a way that it still goes right into the face of someone behind you or wherever the wind is blowing. Even when someone is smoking alone, the smoke from the cigarette that has blown in the direction of the wind, comes directly in ur face. Dont tell me u carry a 5-6 feet tall chimney to blow out the smoke. Unless its blown that way, u are unknowingly creating harm to others.

As regards the effects of cigarette smoke v/s vehicular pollution.....
