Cisco Linksys X3500 vs Asus DSL-N55U : which has broader wireless coverage?

Posted: 03 Apr 2014 12:55 PM PDT

Hello, I wish to buy a dual-band wireless N router with ADSL2+ modem and USB. I am confused between the "Cisco Linksys X3500-N750" and the "Asus DSL-N55U Wireless-N600". Both fulfil my mandatory requirements in a router and are just within my budget. So it comes down to which is more likely to provide atleast the 2.4 GHz signal throughout my 50 feet*50feet three-storey house. I don't expect either of them to be capable of providing 5 GHz signal coverage throughout my house, but which one should be able to cover more area. The Linksys X3500 has internal antennas and utilizes MIMO antenna technology; the no. of antennas for the 2.4 and the 5 GHz signals is specified as: 2x2 (2.4GHz) & 3x3 (5GHz) [ I don't understand what this means]. On the other hand, the Asus DSL-N55U seems to have 3 external 2 dBi dual-band antennas providing both the 2.4 GHz as well as the 5 GHz signals. So, which one is better??

Any suggestions for any other modem router within 11k  which has better signal coverage than the above 2?

Thanks for ure replies in advance. Please help!

Windows Phone 8.1

Posted: 03 Apr 2014 11:52 AM PDT

http://www.engadget.com/2013/06/08/windows-phone-notifications/

You know how it goes, you buy a phone on eBay, and it comes with a developer / pre-release version of a major mobile OS. Well, if these images are to be believed, that's at least what happened to one bargain-hunting Windows Phone fan. The screenshots -- said to be taken from a Nokia 920 -- show Windows Phone 8, but with a few new tweaks and features. Most notable, will likely be the notifications, but other tidbits include App list ordering based on frequency of use, week view in the calendar and the option to kill apps from the multitask screen. The phone reports a build number of: 12084.WPMAIN(wpbldlab).20130509-1407 leading some to infer that this version could have been compiled sometime in May. A tease of something to come? As always, hard to tell, but expect the price of second-hand 920s to bump up a little, for the next few weeks at least.

The Offtopic Thread

Posted: 03 Apr 2014 11:49 AM PDT

With the recent spurt of people going offtopic, I saw the need of this thread. :P Here you can go offtopic as much as possible. Post whatever you want, with just one condition that at least post something sensible that someone else would reply. Don't just post crap. Thread hijacking is totally allowed here. That being said, I'd like to post this. Today, while coming to office, I was listening to Radio Mirchi, and there the RJ was playing songs dedicated by the parents for their child(ren). There's one father who dedicated the song "Kajra Re" for his son. There's another father who dedicated the song "Dhoom Machale Dhoom" for his son. Now, after those two requests, there was one mother who dedicated the song "Jaadu Jaadu" for her daughter. Now we can see the real contrast in the choice of songs between the dads and the mom (or for the son and the daughter). What do you think which was it? Or does it indicate some kind of specific mentality?

Which LED TV is Best in LG/ Samsung/ Sony 32-inch section

Posted: 03 Apr 2014 11:02 AM PDT

Hi,

I am currently having Sony 32 inch Bravia HDTV (Not FULL HD), and it is very nice.

I want a 32" FULL HD, and i would prefer Sony only, but currently Sony not making any 32" FULL HDTV without Smart TV function (if they are,.. do suggest..but i am certain, as i called them to re-confirm)

Now here are the models i am looking into.

  1) Samsung  LED 32F5100    cost around 32k-34k

  2)  LG LED 32LN5400 (it has IPS panel)  same cost as above

  3) Toshiba 32PT200   around 26k to 29k

All above three models are FULL HD

I can go upto 35k, but for best panel quality. I do not want smart features.

I plan to buy Playstation 4 later, hence FULL HD is important.

Sony comes around 40k+ with smart features, which i am not gonna use, as all those features i can use with other gadgests which i already have.

All Sony TVs below that range without smart features are just HD , not FULL HD.

If anybody is having above models, please do share your experiences.

MTS Mblaze wi-fi 999 (40GB plan), did I make wrong choice?

Posted: 03 Apr 2014 10:44 AM PDT

So I just bought the MTS Mblaze wi-fi (usb dongle) 999rs plan, getting 40gb with the package. I was excited because I thought I would get speeds of up to 9.8mpbps - heck even HALF at 4.9 was a good deal. Even 4mbps is passable, but having used it for 1.5-2 weeks now and the highest I've gotten (whether it's 3pm or 4am) is 3.2mbps. That's highest mind you. Average is like 1.8-2.4mbps. That is not what I expected, although the 40gb limit helps.

I'm in Gurgaon, DLF Phase 2 and this is the issue I'm getting. Tata Photon get's me 4-5mbps (I have it for work, and only 4GB). Is it because MTS servers are overloaded? I really wanted a data stick with high speeds, high data for less than 2k. 999 was a bargain at the time, 'acclaimed' fast speeds, huge bandwidth for the price - but now it's becoming an issue.

I was even playing Dota 2 last few days, where my ping fluctuates between 150 to 600, essentially ruining my game (I just played a game now, before I played I had a speedtest.net ping of 94 and dl speed of 2.7mbps, but the game was awful to play in). If I use the Tata, it doesn't do this, it's extremely annoying. Have I made the wrong choice? Is there an alternative? Should I complain.. again?

What experiences have you folks had?

Microsoft Cortana

Back in June, screen shots of an early Windows Phone operating system build leaked (via a Lumia phone allegedly purchased on eBay). At that time, next-to-no attention was paid to an app, listed as "zCortana," that was on the phone.

halocortana But that Cortana app (with the "z" indicating it was a test build) is central to what Microsoft is doing to compete with Apple's Siri and Google Now. And Cortana is back in the news this week with passing mentions by those tracking what's happening with Windows Phone as it moves toward the "Blue" release in the early part of 2014.

Cortana takes its codename from Cortana, an artifically intelligent character in Microsoft's Halo series who can learn and adapt.

Cortana, Microsoft's assistant technology, likewise will be able to learn and adapt, relying on machine-learning technology and the "Satori" knowledge repository powering Bing.

Cortana will be more than just an app that lets users interact with their phones more naturally using voice commands. Cortana is core to the makeover of the entire "shell" -- the core services and experience -- of the future versions of Windows Phone, Windows and the Xbox One operating systems, from what I've heard from my contacts.

Suits (TV series) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Finished first season. It reminds me of two shows... First Collar on how it is presented. Mad Men because the character of Harvey Specter is so freaking similar to Don Draper.

The problem is that Specter is like 5% of what Draper is. It just does not feel solid enough. When Draper talks, you listen. When Specter talks, you hope that he would say something that would impress you. Sadly, it does not happen very often.

I also heard they are giving 3g at 2g rates in my area these days. Is airtel on a PR improving spree? Anyone got offers like this?

Frequent Disconnection / ADSL blinking Issue on MTNL Broadband

Posted: 03 Apr 2014 02:02 AM PDT

Hi, I am a user of 849NU plan of MTNL Triband service since August based out of Navi Mumbai. All of August, i was very happy to have a lovely connection and good speeds, with a pretty good tariff. But now since the past 15 days I am suffering from very intermittent net connection. Although I am connected to the internet, sometimes the webpages take ages to open, and never open, while at other times it opens instantly. Also downloading has the same pattern, sometimes I get very good speeds of upto 200 Kbps, while other times there is no download. Although all download sites show good Triband Speed, but it is the intermittent connection that is the problem. This problem has crept up in the last 15 odd days, and I have tried everything but no change has been noticed. Has anyone else faced a similar problem, and if yes, whats the work around. The people at MTNL classify this as a slow connection problem, but that is exactly not the issue, as I do get good speeds intermittently. Somebody please help me.
