Are you D.I.Y Type, Post Your Do-It-YourSelf type Hacks and mods you did Posted: 02 Apr 2014 11:49 AM PDT Broadbandforum certainly is a addiction I am having, so I was thinking what One thing I am missing here is the D.I.Y. stuff.
To start with me, I've a big bad itch of modding things, and my little obsessed by Electronics and L.E.D. lights are my weak point. I am irritatingly crazy about L.E.D. be it my work table, be it my bedroom, stairs, my car, my 18 yrs old scooter, my Laptop Chillpad, even my Kids Tri-Cycle has L.E.D. in it.
While I know this may not be of interest for everybody, but I am sure my fellow peers here must be having some kind of D.I.Y. skills in them. So please participate and post what you made in past or currently doing.
My Most Recent & Current D.I.Y stuff Includes
1). A L.E.D. Strobe Light made from PIC 12f629, flashes same way like we see in aircraft. (pics + video soon) 2). Made a PIC Programmer which works using Serial Port of desktop to burn Hex Code to the PIC (Programmable Integrated Circuit.) 3). Last night Made a USB Powered Very Bright Light consists of 2 x 1 watt White L.E.D. Runs off USB Port or mobile charger and is Blinding Bright. 4). Just finished a Serial Interface to RESET my konked Seagate Barracuda HDD which has firmware bug and will be trying it tomorrow night. (video soon). 5). Moded my kids' toy as it was Battery Hungry, no matter what I put into that Poh Engine, it exhausted battery within 30 mins, Now it has a 4V, 0.5Ah rechargable sunca easy to charge and runs far more than any damn re-chargeable battery out there. 6). Moded Netgear USB Wi-Fi Adapter to work with external Antenna. (yet to go to rooftop)
and around few hundred old mods thrown somewhere in house.
Pics from this Crazy Man
Toy Modified :-)
The PIC Programmer with 6V modification
The Serial Interface for connecting to HDD via hyper terminal, basically its just a interface to mod 12v based serial interface to 5v which is needed for HDD recovery.
The Awesome L.E.D. Light Good when you just need a few seconds on keyboard and regret that your laptop doesn't has a backlit keyboard.
Thought of lighting up keyboard, it lights up the enter desk and part of room.
(Imgur doesn't works without problems, so I've stopped using it.)
More to come soon.....

Buying and Selling products through OLX Posted: 02 Apr 2014 11:08 AM PDT I am giving it a second try. I listed my 2012 Google Nexus 7 3G 2 days ago. Just got one query. But as expected, it was quite absurd. He wants me to drop the price 40%. Claims to have Google as his client. Says Google is offering him the 2013 edition of the 3G variant for Rs. 18000 (US price is going to be above Rs. 22000). It's fun. I told him to get it because it is an excellent deal. He said he is planning on getting that but wanted a backup device for testing. I am assuming he is an Android developer and if he is right, Google seems to be offering the new model at pretty amazing prices to developers here in India even before it is launched in the US market.
Listed two more products for variety. I know people here have had much success with OLX. Share your stories! |
Posted: 02 Apr 2014 11:07 AM PDT recently i got this spectranet connection. They did underground fiber optic cabling and started the service called spectranet FOX in my area. the plan is 12 to 16 mbps for 6 months. looking at the speeds they will provide, i got my airtel BB service discontinued.
I AM HIGHLY DISSATISFIED WITH THE CONNECTION.
1) promised speeds 12-16 mbps ,you never get the promised speeds throughout the day. even right now i am getting just 3-5 mbps. why do ISPs do this? come on! if you dont want to give constant speeds then why the hell do you have to make false promises? when they visit your home for a demonstration, such good marketing skills, overselling their product, promising this and that. but when it comes to the connection, its very poor.
2) its a daily glitch in the connection. from timings 9 pm to 12 pm i always get very low speeds like 1 mbps and very high pings touching 200 ms. i've got to play online games , but with such a pathetic ping im not able to play the games properly. and this is very irritating! and this happens everyday
3) when i had the airtel connection i used to watch alot of youtube, surf internet and the data limit was 8 gb. with these activities not even half of my data limit was used, and around 4-5 gb was left unused per month.seldom, i used to download movies because once the data limit was reached, then speed degraded to 256kpbs(reason to change spectranet ISP). using this connection, in last 1 week the 5 gb of data usage has been shown in my spectranet account(5gb data volume used) i myself have downloaded around 700mb of data THAT'S IT! i can accept even if i had watched 1080p HD videos on youtube, i could accept that i could've consumed data but still cant find what has used 5gb. if it could've been a theft over wi-fi, but whenever i am at home i connect through LAN cable and switch of the wifi service and whenever im not at home i switch off the router. then how come 5 gb of data has been consumed?! and i cant buy this fact that ONLY net surfing at watching videos on youtube would've consumed so much of data. i really find that spectranet is a cheat on this part.
if someone using the same net plans from spectranet and facing the same issues please reply and put forward some solutions to my problem, so as how to get the promised service from my ISP.

Posted: 02 Apr 2014 11:06 AM PDT I wonder why there is no thread for this yet!
The show is doing wonderfully well. I personally love it. It's different, no cheap comedy and pure entertainment.
TRP wise it's doing extremely well. Currently at the top in it's category (even above the likes of KBC, Jhalak Dikhla Ja, etc.) and overall 3rd. BTW you can watch the full episodes, trailers, etc. here - http://www.youtube.com/user/colorstv/search?query=comedy+nights Believe me, this show is amazing. You gotta watch this if you don't. |

Posted: 02 Apr 2014 10:50 AM PDT Hi, Does anyone know how to check aircel postpaid data balance from Chennai. Customer care has given me numbers *122*011# and *133# to dial. Both end in some form of failure whenever I try. In 10 days, I seem to have gone through my data quota of 512MB. I am using 3G a bit more now, but, I find it hard to believe I am using so much...mostly for navigation and some amount of dev work. I'd like to monitor my usage on a daily basis and verify I am not being taken for a ride by aircel on my usage. Calling customer care is a major pain. I had to call 121 3 times today to get the information. On the first call, I was told I had used 507MB of 512MB and had a balance of 247MB. When I tried to explain the information given didn't add up, the lady kept saying that is what their systems said, and then, she finally hung up on me as I was trying to explain the math to her On the next call, they said they would call back as they were having trouble accessing the information. To their credit, they did in 15 mins and gave me my usage. This time they just said 500 MB used and let me do the math myself on what should then be available I just want an easy way to monitor my usage as recorded by aircel. Their selfcare portal is something I have given up trying to login to and the *# codes customer care gives me don't work...anybody know any other codes I can try? Thanks and end rant
