When will BSNL launch new broadband plans?

Posted: 20 Feb 2014 09:41 AM PST

hi Guys,

Its frustrating that BSNL is yet to launch truly unlimited 1/2/4 Mbps plans for < 1500Rs. Its perpetually offering 512Kbps speeds from last 4-5 years. Not only that, they are not even offering speed boost say after 6pm like MTNL does. Its not only about downloading torrents. Even if i want to watch Youtube files, I am not able to with 512kbps. They should start offering speed boost to 2/4Mbps at 6pm to 8am slot if offering the same at daytime is not possible. What can we do in this situation ? Can we all raise a CRM ticket at selfcare portal to demand this ?

Sanket.

ACT broadband worst service

Posted: 20 Feb 2014 09:21 AM PST

Hi I have used ACT Broadband and my experience has been pathetic!!! I am surprised how ppl in blore still manage to give such wonderful feedback!!!

First of all , marketing guy Manjunath cheated me saying its a post-paid connection and collected deposit with advance rental...... within 5 days i am asked to pay again for next month!!! I am surprised and checked with cust care to find that ACT doesn't provide post paid .For having paid Rs 2000 as deposit continued with connection....
ACT bb cust care experience has been horrible....I was unable to make online payment and I raised 22 complaints with a week ,but problem never solved....I paid thru cheque with additional Rs 50 as collection charges,,,,,
I had issues of disconnection and slow speed for 5-10 within 1st month of using ACT bb ...my complaint used to be closed without my knowledge and problem still open!!!
Finally not even my single complaint was addressed properly...well i reached out nodal officer Hari prasad.... he is as use less as cust care!! I decided finally to call it quits and asked ACT to cancel my connection...well ACT made a big mess of it!!!
Which ISP provider charges for disconnection???? I paid my outstanding thru cheque as my online account was never activated!!!
but even after cancelling my account ACT has not returned my deposit nor cancelled my connection!!
I still get bills for Jan ,Feb 2014 ,when connection is closed in December 2013.....
I am a genuine reviewer and my account number with ACT bb was 412315
Also ,names of sales exec and nodal officer is real!!!

So its to u decide if ACT is really what it claims to be!!! This may be one off case or one of many cases ,but their arrogance shows!!!
ACT is Harassment @ HIGH speed!!!!

How to check if BSNL evdo will give me speeds at my place before i purchase it?

Posted: 20 Feb 2014 09:11 AM PST

I am from ahmedabad, Vatva. I was using local SpidiGo internet from past 2 years. a month back my spidigo guys told me that there is some problem with their local AP and hence i will be refunded my money. I applied for tikona internet provider, the guy from tikona did show up today but told me that connection at my place is not possible since he can not get a LOS to his AP.

Reliance Wimax is to expensive. Airtel/Tata broadband are not available at my place. so now the only players who remain are Dongles and data cards. I have used unlimted broadband plans from past 4 years, and hence would like to continue using unlimted in future as well. but when i did some research for the datacard/dongle plans by various providers and came to know that most of the so called "Unlimted plans" by tata photon, reliance netconnect +, and MTS blaze only provide good speeds untill few GBs a month.

Now the only thing that remain is BSNL evdo Which according to my research actually provides unlimited internet at 750 a month. but since it is BSNL obviously it was hard for me to gather information regarding how to get the connection and things.

Now the only concern i have is that, i know that BSNL evdo provides only 144kbps where it doesnt have the "high speed" signals. I am worried that if i buy a new evdo , in my home i may not get the speed.

So my question is : How do i check bsnl evdo speed in my house, without having an evdo ? I dont have any friends who use evdo. however i do have freinds who have BSNL sims. so can i check BSNL sim signal such as if its HSPA or EDGE ? does that matter?

Thanks for reading

Tikona Broadband User Experiences

Posted: 20 Feb 2014 06:11 AM PST

Thought I would start another thread for people who have actually used this service to describe their experience.

They have started advertising quite heavily in Bombay and their plans seem pretty decent. Their 600kbps UL plan would be excellent for me.

I really like the way they have bill limits for their limited plans as well. That shows they understand consumer concerns about enormous bills and have designed their plans to allay them.

So how good is their service? Any down time? How quickly do they respond to complaints? Really any information from people who have used Tikona would be appreciated.

Laser Printer

My cheap desk jet has stopped working. Since I print much less quantity, the toner cartridge gets wasted often. My needs include document printing, photo copying, photo printing using photo board, scanning.

Looking forward to your recommendations in the laser category. If incremental cost can be less, I can go up to 15k for the printer. Do the cartridges las longer if left idle?

OpenOffice - LibreOffice

Posted: 20 Feb 2014 04:28 AM PST

The second beta of this office suite, which competes with Microsoft Office, was launched on September 1 and the final has been awaited by the consumer base since a long time. Stefan Taxhet, one of the developers said on his Blog post: “It would have been nice to release OpenOffice.org 2.0 at the 13th of October. But in the last minute a serious showstopper (#i55330#) has been brought up. In a discussion on IRC, we agreed that this is reason enough to start work on RC3.”

This major upgrade would be the first one of the version history of this office suite to produce the new XML-based standard ODF (OpenDocument format). This format has been sanctioned internationally only last May by OASIS (Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards).

Nandan Nilekani gets a ticket even before officially joining Congress Party!

Posted: 20 Feb 2014 04:07 AM PST

UIDAI chairman Nandan Nilekani, who's got the Congress high command nod for Bangalore South, is perhaps the only candidate to bag a ticket without even becoming a party member. As expected, it has caused heartburn among many in the party, especially contenders for the seat.

The Congress is expected to release its first list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections this weekend or in the first week of March.

Nilekani made a headstart and began groundwork in Bangalore South six months ago, when his candidature was mere speculation. Contenders for the ticket feel he has sailed through in a prime constituency, while they've toiled for years for the party. Nilekani, though, doesn't see himself as an outsider in the Congress party.

World's longest free Wi-Fi zone in Patna — economictimes.indiatimes.com

Once known as a backward state, Bihar has made a strong bid for a mention on the world's infotech map as chief minister Nitish Kumar unveiled the 20km free Wi-Fi zone, the longest across the globe, at a function christened e-Bihar summit in Patna on Wednesday. Kumar also unveiled a 'city surveillance and dial 100' scheme under which at least 100 CCTV cameras installed in different localities of the state capital became operational. A state data centre has also been opened for storing of the 'data' collected by these cameras.

My experience with ACT BB

Posted: 20 Feb 2014 03:20 AM PST

Feedback whether positive or negative should be passed to the appropriate person. That's what I believe in.

This is the timeline of how my installation experience has been with ACT BB.

11 Nov-2013 - I applied for a new ACT BB connection today in Kundanahalli Gate, Bangalore. I will keep you posted on the developments.

11-Nov-2013 - Cheque payment made to Sales executive, Babu Reddy, details filled on form and submitted to him.
ETA - 3 days for wiring and connection to be activated.

12-Nov-2013 -
I got a call from ACT technician today that cabling would be done by end of the day. Got a confirmation call from Customer Care at 1543 hrs, IST today that connection will be activated in 2 days. So far, so good.

12-Nov-2013 - At 1616 hrs, IST I receive a call from Mukund who is the ACT technician saying that the wiring has been completed to my apartment on the third floor and i would be receiving a call today at 1700 hrs, IST for username and password. Mukund confirms that I can use my internet connection from tonight.

I would term this as awesome service from an installation perspective, although I would have to wait and watch how stable the connection is post installation.

12-Nov-2013 -
Cabling has been completed and just received the credentials for my broadband account at 2059 hrs, IST through email and the registered mobile number. A confirmation call was made from the customer care before the account got activated.I am still out, so I gotta go and check how the connection is. I will keep you posted.

I have connected the cable from ACT BB to my Netgear WGR614 router.

12-Nov-2013 1159, IST - First level checks indicate amazing speeds with YouTube where I can watch videos without buffering in Full HD.

I will keep posting various workloads I consider to be bandwidth intensive and would update this thread.

MTNL Broadband disconnection

Posted: 20 Feb 2014 03:14 AM PST

Hi all,

For at least the past eight months I've had increasing problems with my MTNL line and Triband connection in Bandra W, Mumbai. Persistent problems include crackly landline, slow internet speed and frequent disconnection (ADSL light flashes then internet reconnects after a few minutes). Using the 198 complaint service is useless - the problem never get fixed yet their system gets updated as issue resolved despite me telling the operator that calls "No, not fixed!". Last week, an MTNL technician came (for the n'th time) to fix my crackly landline. He cut the external wire (without informing me beforehand - I was on the net!); after some time my internet connection disconnected and would not reconnect: first, the PPPoE light would not come on, then the ADSL light would not come on. Occasionally, all modem lights would come on but internet pages would not open.

After months of reporting complaints about these persistent problems, visiting the exchange and emailing the DGM (who never responded) I eventually managed to get a visit from FOUR MTNL engineers. They insisted that the line was fine and that the problem was with my modem (I had bought a new landline months before because I was told THAT was the problem), so I replaced my modem (from a D-Link GLB-502T to a DSL 2520U). The first day the engineers came, they  spent a few hours apparently checking and "fixing the line". Then they messed around with my modem, made a few phone calls, prodded around on my laptop and eventually told me that the line is working perfectly from Prabhadevi to Bandra Reclamation, to my area and that, 100% the problem is with my modem. I replaced this with the DSL 2520 and configured it the same day. Still no connection (laptop connection to WiFi fine but no connection to internet). I called D-Link and we went through all the diagnostics but could still not establish a connection. The D-Link support guy concluded that the problem was either my MTNL username or password, or a (dreaded) line problem. I managed to get one of the MTNL engineers back the next afternoon. After an hour of messing around and more phone calls, he got it connected. He said that my username and password had (somehow?) been changed and was now reset. He left with the thing working. But...

It didn't take long before the modem disconnected then reconnected! This continues to date. It seems to be worse in the morning and early evening (but can happen any time), during which it can disconnect on average every 5-10 minutes over 2-3 hours. Really frustrating as I still don't know what is causing it. If I had the time, I'd pay the dgm a personal visit - I don't know what else to do. Here's are my current ISP stats (while gathering them, my internet connection disconnected and reconnected 4 times in 5 minutes!!!!):

                                   Downstream           Upstream
Rate                             2047kbps             1021kbps
SNR Margin:                    28.2                       6.6
Attenuation                      34.2                      21.4
Output power                  17.2                      10.2

Superframes
RS correctable errors       36                      457
RS uncorrectable errors    0                       159

If anyone could interpret these data for me, give me any ideas about possible causes of these disconnections and potential solutions, I'd be really grateful. Could there be an interference problem that might be solved using an ADSL filter? Can you but them here? How does one effectively deal with the awful customer service given by such organizations?

Thanks very much.
G
