AAP Government: Discount on power bills to people who protested with them

Posted: 19 Feb 2014 12:50 PM PST

I am not sure what to make of this.

Those who did not pay for electricity between October 2012 and April 2013 will owe only half of what they were billed. The government will supply the six crores to cover that massive discount.
The announcement was made today by senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia, who said that Delhi residents who supported the party's campaign against inflated power prices, would be given 50% subsidy and would be charged no penalty. Manish said that households who did pay their bills during this period will not be refunded.
In October 2012, AAP urged residents of Delhi to state in writing that they would not pay their water and power bills to protest against over-priced utilities. 10 lakh people signed the petition; 24,000 defaulted on their bills.

PSA for owners of Asus Routers

Posted: 19 Feb 2014 12:48 PM PST

Do look for a firmware update for your routers. Apparently a bunch of routers from the company have been found to have a major security vulnerability.

ASUS India - IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT- ASUS RT router owners -...

ASUS RT router owners - please update your firmware!
Regarding recent discussions about the default security settings of the AiCloud and FTP features in some ASUS routers, updated firmware that modifies these settings is now available on the ASUS website (and, actually, has been for some time).
We value customer feedback and strive to consistently improve our products and firmware to provide fast, stable and easy-to-use networking solutions. We encourage users of ASUS routers to regularly check for and install available updates to further improve usability and security.
Those who update their router firmware regularly will not have to worry.
To further: A user interface update will begin to roll out across ASUSWRT products later this month that will 1) check the status of security settings within the router and 2) check for updates, and add alerts/reminder notes to the router home-screen to directly alert users.

µTorrent Updates

Posted: 19 Feb 2014 12:06 PM PST

µTorrent is an efficient and feature rich BitTorrent client for Windows sporting a very small footprint. It was designed to use as little cpu, memory and space as possible while offering all the functionality expected from advanced clients. With BitTorrent, you can download files faster and contribute by sharing files and bandwidth.

Features:
- Written from scratch in C++ with efficiency in mind
- Manages multiple simultaneous downloads
- Smart bandwidth usage
- File level priorities
- Global and per-torrent upload/download rate limiting
- Quickly resumes interrupted transfers
- Universal Plug&Play (WinXP only)
- Supports popular protocol extensions
- Low memory footprint and decent speeds
- Attractive Interface: When hunting for mini-BTclients, interface it's usually the first thing that goes out the window for the sake of filesize / processing. This is not the case with µTorrent. All information that one routinely checks is represented (file listing, pieces, tracker details). This BitTorrent client seems to have all the best features of programs like Azureus, BitComet or ABC but is under 100K of size !

No Install Required.

Need advice on *FUP* free Internet Connection.

Posted: 19 Feb 2014 12:04 PM PST

Hello everyone! ,

I apologise for any mistakes that i make as i am new to the forums. (But following it from quite some time now.) I am from Kolhapur,Maharashtra and I currently have BSNL wired broadband with the ULD 950 plan.(4 mbps till 8 GB and 512 kbps beyond). I am having no problems with it so far and it has been quite reliable. But i am a type of downloader and 8 Gb is just..* :anger3: *..Those 8 gigs get used up between 2nd/3rd of every month...Video streaming, windows updates, :pirate: ,etc etc you just can't live with 8 gig in this digital age! The 512 kbps post fup speed is a joke.I connect 4 to 5 devices through wifi and 512 is not enough for all these.

I am looking for something truly unlimited as i am fed up of this fup! There are really not ISP who provide BB at my area. Airtel/Reliance is not present, Docomo is there but my area, although in middle of city,is not feasible! There are no other ISP,which i know of. Then i come across BSNL EVDO which has a unlimited plan for ₹ 750 and has speeds upto 3.1 mbps. How good is EVDO? How will i share the usb connection through wifi? I am a gamer and i know that Evdo, which is through cdma network would give me too good pings. So i would like to keep my current broadband and lower the plan to ULD 525 and then add Evdo for downloading and all that stuff. Is this correct thing to do? Should i buy the modem from BSNL or buy something like micromax/huawei? I have already registered at uddan.bsnl.com for a new evdo connection. Thanks in advance!

Would recommend creating new thread for any big news & as usual we have threads for specific series/tournaments.. This is for something general random posts related to cricket...Kind of the Cricket Offtopic thread...

Will start with one post

Best option for 3g dongle in Gurgaon?

Posted: 19 Feb 2014 11:52 AM PST

Guys,

Are there any non wired options (aka 3g dongles) which have high speeds with 30gb downloads or more?

Apparently it's touch to get broadband where I am (Phase 2) and I'll need 3g dongle. Price doesn't matter as long as it's below 2.5k (give or take 500), just what can I do?

Best and fastest? (I have tata photon from work and it's absolutely rubbish here, do not even recommend tata please).

For wired broadband, Airtel put the phone down once I give my address (wtf.. how crap is their customer service), youbroadband say they can put it in my house (it's like a homestay with 6 other rooms in building). Any suggestions from wise minds here?

Thanks!

Cheater Idea

Posted: 19 Feb 2014 11:50 AM PST

On 14 Feb there was special offer of Internet. 1.5 GB 2G data for 30 days for Rs. 99 only. So I recharge with the same. but cheater IDea given me only 450 MB 2G data for 15 days.

So  I have lodged complaint about data benefit which was not given.

But today I got sms mentioning that my complaint is cancelled.

Idea  cancel the complaint without providing any solution. I have talked to customer care executive, he said system is slow and he can't give reason why complaint is cancelled blah blah blah.
Even after talking & explaining the matter with customer care Supervisor  (she keeps me waiting for 23 minutes & then disconnect the phone). Now I am not able to dial 198 as Idea barred my number from calling,

WHAT KIND OF SUPPORT IDEA PROVIDING? IS THIS THE WAY IDEA TREATS CUSTOMERS?

Please suggest me the future course of action for the matter.

thnx

Pepper Spray used in Indian Parliament

Posted: 19 Feb 2014 08:37 AM PST

A parliamentarian used pepper spray, triggering a coughing bout and three MPs had to be taken to hospital in unprecedented scenes in Parliament over the controversial bill to create Telangana by dividing Andhra Pradesh, which was introduced in the Lok Sabha today.

Congress MP L Rajagopal used pepper spray as two sets of MPs - for and against Telangana - rushed to the Well of the Lok Sabha. A computer was flung and broken in the clash; a mic was thrown.

Two groups of protesters also clashed outside Parliament and a heavy contingent of police arrived to remove them as the volatile political atmosphere spilled onto the streets.

There is unprecedented security in Parliament after a suicide threat by an MP.

Fire extinguishers and blankets have been kept ready in Parliament after a Congress MP allegedly threatened to set himself afire to protest against Telangana. The MP, Sabbam Hari, is one of the six that the ruling party expelled for moving a no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister.

No visitors are being allowed in the Parliament House and even those entering the press galleries are being put through rare checks. Sources say security personnel are also cautious about protesting MPs carrying any suspicious objects, though they cannot frisk them.

These MPs belong to the non-Telangana regions of Seemandhra, which are vehemently opposed to bifurcating Andhra Pradesh.
"This government can't bring the bill. It's a minority bill. Its own ministers are opposing it and they are depending on the Opposition to pass it," said L Rajgopal.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met top ministers before Parliament began to discuss whether to bring the bill today, as the government anticipated trouble.

Members in blindfolds protested in the Rajya Sabha, shouted slogans and held up placards. Both houses were adjourned within minutes as Andhra Pradesh MPs, including ministers, vowed to block the Telangana bill.

There have been ugly and embarrassing clashes in Parliament since last week. "My heart bleeds to see what is happening in the House. This is bad for democracy," said the Prime Minister yesterday, after two MPs nearly attacked each other before other lawmakers intervened.

man the great graphic cards from the green team (nvidia) which is based on "Maxwell architectures" finally launched means better performance , better power consumption from previous gen cards , the brilliant thing about it that it only requires 60 watts tdp and doesn't required 6 pin power connector..so u can couple with ur old computers and play latest games in high settings and i think it satisfies the price and performance ratio and can be considered as already the god of mid level gaming......for detail specifications and prices go to the link down below..

Uber is now operational in Delhi and Bangalore

Posted: 19 Feb 2014 03:38 AM PST

Uber

https://www.uber.com/cities/new-delhi

Rs. 70 + Rs. 2 per minute + Rs. 20 per KM

https://www.uber.com/cities/bangalore

Rs. 80 + Rs 2 per minute + Rs. 18 per KM

Possible models: Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord.

So I am guessing only targeting the premium segment right now. Still cool.

Prices are quite amazing except for the Rs. 2 per minute tax which is horrible for India. Both Delhi NCR and Bangalore are congested cities which means that you are going to be paying while you are stuck in traffic jams. I do not think it is associated with waiting time alone.

Any info will be appreciated.
