Issue with DSL Link

Posted: 23 Jan 2014 11:20 AM PST

I am facing a strange issue with my DSL Link being unstable. When I switch on the modem, it works fine for some time but later the link becomes unstable and starts blinking. If I pick the phone receiver and keep it back, it connects again, works fine for some time, then again becomes unstable, I again pull up the receiver, it works and so on. Any idea what could be the issue?

Upload speed on Thunder 699

Posted: 23 Jan 2014 11:03 AM PST

I'm currently on Thunder 549 with 1 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up. I called Reliance to enquire about the upload speed on Thunder 699, but they kept forwarding my call between the technical and billing department saying the other knows the answer to my query. After going back and forth 3 times, I told them not to transfer my call anymore. Funny people.

Is anyone here on Thunder 699? What is the upload speed you get?

Modem assigned strange ip by BSNL and net is down.

Posted: 23 Jan 2014 10:38 AM PST

I have BSNL Broadband in Kolkata. from the last 2 days, the modem is assigned 10.208.72.xx IPs. My modem is connected to a Netgear router. The default gateway of my modem is 192.168.1.1 and router is 10.0.0.1. When i enter the ip assigned by BSNL, it opens my modem homepage.

This is very strange and previously my ips starts with 117.x.x.x. Nothing has been changed in the settings of modem or the router.

Kindly help.

Unique Identification Authority of India (Aadhaar)

the govts plans to have a biometric national id cards for everyone by 2010.In usa the real id act is facing fierce resistance as 20 states have signed legislation opposition this as well in UK as groups like defyid and no2id.THis national id card makes india a police state, mass surveillance society and blurs the difference btw nazi germany and india.
the supreme court has interpreted that we have the right to privacy which the national id card violates. Why isnt anyone doing to stop this.I contacted times of india ,cnn ibn, ndtv but got no reply?.

we already have voter id card, passport, driver license, ration card, pan card(similar to social security card in us.).EVen is usa the ss card is not to be used as a id card.why do we need a chip card?the only thing that i can think is abut control and monitoring us.

RBI Withdraws all Indian Currency Notes Printed Before 2005 (Black Money)

Posted: 23 Jan 2014 10:04 AM PST

Excellent move. Ask your friends to co-operate.

TH23_Citi_note_Col_1728959g.jpg

The notes issued before 2005 do not have the year of printing on the reverse side

In a move that is likely to hit currency hoarders and counterfeiters, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to withdraw from circulation all currency notes issued prior to 2005.

"From April 1, the public will be required to approach banks for exchanging these notes. Banks will provide exchange facility for these notes until further communication,'' the RBI said on Wednesday, clarifying that notes issued before 2005 would continue to be legal tender.

"The public can easily identify the notes to be withdrawn as the notes issued before 2005 do not have on them the year of printing on the reverse side,'' the RBI said.

From July 1, however, those wanting to exchange more than 10 pieces of 500 and 1000 rupee notes in a bank where they do not have an account will have to provide proof of residence and identity. The RBI's move will have the effect of flushing out black money, according to bankers.

A former bank official said the RBI announcement would leave currency hoarders with no option but to liquidate their unaccounted holdings by spending or exchanging them. The move is a well thought out exercise by the RBI to capture the ``money flows'' into the system and also help flush out counterfeit notes, said another banker. Notes issued after 2005 have added security features that make counterfeiting difficult. Dharmakirti Joshi, Chief Economist at ratings agency CRISIL, agrees that the spillover effect of the move will be to flush out black money. "Money has value as long as it is a medium of exchange and store of value. It loses its value when it ceases to be a medium of exchange. It's like holding a dead body,'' he said.

Pointing out that when the notes are exchanged in banks it will have the effect of bringing the money back into the system, Mr. Joshi felt it was a very good move for the economy.

With the RBI setting terms for exchange of these notes and income-tax authorities scrutinising big spends, it will now become that much simpler for the authorities to track these transactions.

Airtel Lease Line

Posted: 23 Jan 2014 10:02 AM PST

We are planning to buy Airtel Lease Line of 2 MBPS (1:1). What is the maximum number of concurrent users it can support at one point of time. I'm currently using 3 broadband connections (8 MBPS each) but the speed is not that great.

Also, I'm using WIFI for all 3 connections, so will the speed improve if I change it to LAN.

Thanks in advance.

GMO foods to be avoided

Posted: 23 Jan 2014 09:59 AM PST

In the United States, 70 percent or more of the foods in your supermarket directly or indirectly contain genetically modified (GM) ingredients. The illustration below shows how prevalent GM foods have become on grocery store shelves.

The only way to avoid GM food is to know which ingredients are likely to be genetically modified and read labels carefully, or to always choose organic foods, which are certified GM-free.

Below are estimates of the percentages of GM foods found on store shelves. To learn more about this issue, see The Threats From Genetically Modified Foods.

GM Foods Chart

Dairy/Eggs. Unless it's labeled organic or rBST-free, everything in the dairy case, including milk, cheese and yogurt, probably contains milk from cows injected with rBST, a GM hormone used to make cows give more milk. It's also likely that the cows and chickens were fed GM corn, soy and canola.

Meat. GM corn and soy are so dominant in the United States that almost everything in the meat case comes from animals fed GM crops.

Fresh Produce. Not many GM items yet, but GM sweet corn arrived in 2012.

Cereals. Unless labeled as organic, cereals probably include GM ingredients, primarily high-fructose corn syrup and other corn products, soy and milk proteins. Don't be fooled by "natural" labels; they mean nothing.

Cookies/Snacks/Chips. Almost all include high-fructose corn syrup; soy, corn or canola oil; soy lecithin and other soy isolates; or other additives derived from GM corn and soy.

Pasta/Rice/Beans. You're pretty safe here, because wheat, rice and beans are not (yet) genetically modified, but watch out for the heat-and-eat pasta meals that include GM ingredients.

Ice Cream/Frozen Prepared Meals. Unless labeled organic, these are virtually guaranteed to have GM ingredients, including corn and soy products, whey protein from rBST milk, and GM beet sugar.

Oils/Fats/Shortening. Olive oil is non-GM. "Vegetable oil" usually is GM, as are corn, soybean and canola oil. Solid shortenings are hydrogenated canola, corn and soybean oil.

Condiments/Prepared Foods. All of these items contain GM soy, corn and/or canola unless labeled organic.

Bread/Crackers. Almost all commercial bread is made with corn syrup and soy-based ingredients.

There was a pilot flying a small single engine charter plane, with a couple of very important executives on board. He was coming into Seattle airport through thick fog with less than 10m visibility when his instruments went out. So he began circling around looking for landmark. After an hour or so, he starts running pretty low on fuel and the passengers are getting very nervous. Finally, a small opening in the fog appears and he sees a tall building with one guy working alone on the fifth floor. The pilot banks the plane around, rolls down the window and shouts to the guy "Hey! Where am I?" To this, the solitary office worker replies "You're in a plane." The pilot rolls up the window, executes a 275 degree turn and proceeds to execute a perfect blind landing on the runway of the airport 5 miles away. Just as the plane stops, so does the engine as the fuel has run out.

The passengers are amazed and one asks how he did it. "Simple" replies the pilot, "I asked the guy in that building a simple question. The answer he gave me was 100 percent correct but absolutely useless, therefore that must be Microsoft's support office and from there the airport is just a while away."

Is Windows a virus?

No, Windows is not a virus. Here's what viruses do:
They replicate quickly Okay, Windows does that

Viruses use up valuable system resources, slowing down the system as they do so okay, Windows does that

Viruses will, from time to time, trash your hard disk Okay, Windows does that, too

Viruses are usually carried, unknown to the user, along with valuable programs and systems Sigh... Windows does that, too

Viruses will occasionally make the user suspect their system is too slow (see 2) and the user will buy new hardware Yup, that's with Windows, too

Until now it seems Windows is a virus but there are fundamental differences: Viruses are well supported by their authors, are running on most systems, their program code is fast, compact and efficient and they tend to become more sophisticated as they mature

So, Windows is *not* a virus

Getting poor wifi coverage with TP-Link W8961ND

Posted: 23 Jan 2014 08:08 AM PST

Hi everyone,

Very recently I bought TP-Link W8961ND Modem-router after going through lot of positive reviews. I have configured the modem for my BSNL Broadband.

Internet is working fine without any disconnection. Now the problem is Wifi signal drops drastically. When I move out of the room where I kept the modem, all the signal bar drops. Even when I am in front of the Modem (a feet away) there will be drop in signals. And I have checked the channels. all the channels are unused.

Do I have to change any settings to overcome this problem or its a hardware issue?

I am using PPPoE mode.

Please help me

When will BSNL launch new plans ?

Posted: 23 Jan 2014 07:59 AM PST

hi Guys,

Its frustrating that BSNL is yet to launch truly unlimited 1/2/4 Mbps plans for < 1500Rs. Its perpetually offering 512Kbps speeds from last 4-5 years. Not only that, they are not even offering speed boost say after 6pm like MTNL does. Its not only about downloading torrents. Even if i want to watch Youtube files, I am not able to with 512kbps. They should start offering speed boost to 2/4Mbps at 6pm to 8am slot if offering the same at daytime is not possible. What can we do in this situation ? Can we all raise a CRM ticket at selfcare portal to demand this ?

Apparently the gamepad accessory for the Galaxy S4 support devices as large as 6.3 inches. So, the rumor in the market is that Note3 might feature a display as large. lol.

I think they should have added support for 8" devices so that the recently launched Note 8.0 would have worked with this!

The year-on-year decline in discontinued operations net sales in the fourth quarter 2013 was primarily due to lower Mobile Phones net sales and, to a lesser extent, lower Smart Devices net sales. Our Mobile Phones net sales were affected by competitive industry dynamics, including intense smartphone competition at increasingly lower price points and intense competition at the low end of our product portfolio. Our Smart Devices net sales were affected by competitive industry dynamics including the strong momentum of competing smartphone platforms, as well as our portfolio transition from Symbian products to Lumia products.

Rahul Gandhi: Would consider PM post if MPs select me after elections

"In Congress, elected MPs select the PM. After elections if our party comes to power and the MPs select me then I will definitely consider it," Rahul told reporters on the second and last day of his two-day tour to his parliamentary constituency Amethi. "To select a PM is the right of the MPs and it should stay with them. Selecting a PM nominee before polls is not a democratic system, but part of personality cult," he said.

BSNL - EVDO - Usage - Review and everything about it

I know its a old school connection , about 4 years old but till now there isnt a better wireless plan compared to this till now

Rs 750 Pm True Unlimited . Prepaid

Pros:
1. True Unlimited no FUPs - i download around 100-150 Gbs a month, i can download upto 200-300 Gbs but i run out of files
2. Priced cheap compared to others , when they charge Rs 1000 with 10 Gb FUP
3. U dont have to talk to the customer care ever

Cons:
1. it has too many
2. Coverage is too thin , forget about slow speed there are places where u wont get any service at all
3. u just cannot walk to a BSNL office and buy this sim , because 70% of them doesnt know there is a service like this
4. CDMA
5. Availability of CDMA- EVDO modems in the market
6. Recharge Problems , those STVs mentioned on the site dont work most of the time ( lost Rs 1000 over online Recharge couple of times)

even after all the above i just love this connection , its prepaid and costs 750 pm , unlimited
have nice coverage in my town , so always get 1-2mbps , but dont ask about the ping or latency values

with this connection i have never thought about another connection for 3 years now .

have some doubts ? want details ? ask it here

happy to help

fZvme.jpg

Max speed , remind u that my device supports upto 3.1mbps only

Recharge:

recharge for Rs 20 for 6 months validity , make with a retailer if he says this amount is not available insist that it works

topup for any amount you like , every 30 days the rental would get deducted automatically

Village Elders approved crime in West Bengal village

Posted: 23 Jan 2014 02:06 AM PST

Police in India's West Bengal state said Thursday that a young woman has been gang raped on the orders of a village council because she fell in love with a man from a different religion.
Sudhakar said the woman said she lost count of how many men raped her during the night-long ordeal that occurred Monday.
The West Bengal case is particularly troubling because the alleged rape apparently was sanctioned by a council made up of village elders. Such councils are not legally binding in India, but they are seen as the will of the local community. The councils decide on social norms in the village and in some villages prescribe the way women can dress, or who they can marry. Those who flout the councils risk being ostracized.

India Police Say Village Elders Ordered Gang-Rape - ABC News

A 20-year-old tribal girl was allegedly raped by at least 10 members of a kangaroo court in a Birbhum village on Monday night as punishment for having an affair with a youth from another community. She is in critical condition after the assault and is clinging to life in spite of the rapists stopping her from reaching a hospital.
All 13 accused — including the village headman — have been arrested for rape. The girl's boyfriend has also been arrested.
TOI spoke to the girl in Suri Hospital on Wednesday evening. Although in severe pain, she feebly said: "I had an affair with a man. We were dragged to a gathering where our community-headman was present. They told me to pay Rs 50,000. When I said I couldn't, they brutalized me." A doctor said she was alive "only because she is a tough tribal girl".
Her mother said: "The crime was committed by our own people. They tortured my daughter and dumped her home late at night. We were threatened not to go to police. We tried to go to Bolpur hospital but they stopped us."

Delhi law minister must be sacked: BJP - The Times of India

I guess it is a reasonable demand. Assuming their ministers have a history of resigning over similar allegations.

"...Somnath Bharti must be sacked. He has got no moral constitutional right to remain in office even for a moment," BJP leader Ravishankar Prasad said a day after an African woman identified him as allegedly heading a group of assaulters in a mid-night raid in south Delhi.

"I would say there is a fixed match between AAP and the Congress party to somehow stop Narendra Modi. ...But I could never imagine the bubble of aam aadmi would burst soon," said Prasad, who is deputy leader of BJP in Rajya Sabha.

"We do not endorse such language and he has been clearly told to control himself. The matter had become really controversial and was taking attention away from the real cause," a senior party leader told ET on the condition of anonymity. "I want to spit on the faces of BJP leader Arun Jaitley and senior lawyer Harish Salve to tell them to mend their ways... I warn you, the public is going to hound you and beat you," the minister had said at a public meeting on Sunday. The media went hammer and tongs after the minister and senior leader Yogendra Yadav was forced to apologise on his behal f to a television channel.

Congress seeks action against Bharti - The Hindu

Congress, which gives outside support to AAP government, on Thursday asked Lt Governor Najeeb Jung to direct the police to take action against controversial Law Minister Somnath Bharti for allegedly leading a group of assaulters in a mid-night raid last week.
A delegation of Delhi Congress leaders headed by DPCC Chief Arvinder Singh Lovely met Mr. Jung, seeking impartial probe into the case and action against Mr. Bharti based on "available evidence".
"Delhi Police is not probing the case thoroughly. We have demanded the Lt Governor to direct Delhi Police to proceed as per law in this case. The Law Minister is not above the law. Whatever legal action is to be taken should be taken. The Lt Governor has assured us of a fair probe," Mr. Lovely told reporters after the meeting.

Raising the pitch against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, the Congress party's Delhi unit on Thursday met the Lieutenant Governor (LG) and urged him to intervene in support of demands for a police probe against the state's controversial law minister Somnath Bharti.
"If this was a case involving a common man, the Delhi Police would have arrested him. But here is an important minister is involved and so no action is being taken. We met the LG to ask him to intervene in the matter," Arvinder Singh Lovely, president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) told reporters after the meeting.
Other Congress leaders from Delhi who attended the meeting with Najeen Jung included Kiran Walia and Haroon Yusuf. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also met Jung and is believed to have discussed the controversy surrounding Somnath Bharti, Press Trust of India reported.
