Assigned IP adress problem.

Posted: 22 Jan 2014 11:32 AM PST

I am in PPPOE mode and most of the times i get assigned 117.x.x.x. .

But sometime I get IP in 59.x.x.x and there is a problem in it. Webpages wont open, torrent wont work, basically there wont be any data transfer, but the led's on the modem will show all ON.

But most of the times when it is 117.x.x.x then there is no problem, everything will open fine.

So what is the problem with 59.x.x.x. How do i tackle this ? Is there a way with which i force modem to get 117.x.x.x everytime.

My modem is TP-LINK TD-8817.

Gaming PC.

Posted: 22 Jan 2014 11:32 AM PST

Thinking of building myself one. I tried building one online, however was surprised to see the cost of a decent latest AMD GPU run above >30000 INR. Other component costs including monitor, is about 35k. Is it even viable to make a gaming PC or should I just for a Playstation 4 at half that price.

Cash back and plastic discounts

Posted: 22 Jan 2014 10:56 AM PST

I always wondered how can banks give huge discounts like 5-10 percent on stuff bought via cards be it debit or credit cards, how and why do they do that sometimes the scheme runs for weeks like on Flipkart and discounts are also heavy on a 20k phone 10% is 2k, I mean it's sort of huge.

How does that work out for banks and Cc company?

Dilemma over ACT

Posted: 22 Jan 2014 10:23 AM PST

Today i was given the pamplet of ACT broadband in chennai adyar, the tariff was very good but due to my bad exp. in the past i am hesitating.

Similarly two months back after seeing many adds and pamplets of Reliance broadband i decided to move out of Airtel but had my bad instinct over reliance even after getting it. Within 10days of my installation i gave request for termination and this trail cost me Rs.2000 but thank god fortunately i held my Airtel line so i switched back to airtel. Reliance gave me one hell of a exp. in service and thought me a lesson that service is more important than cost.

With Airtel, though it is costly for the past 8 years i am with it and i have faced service issues only 5 to 8 times that's called gold class service and the only problem with airtel is low FUP and too Expensive if they are ready to review these things they will be the leader in BB in india.

Now coming to ACT after reading through all the reviews in this forum as well as in other websites it is clearly visible that more than 50% of the customers face issues either with connection or service and the ACT official rep. responds and promises to resolve the issue. This is something similar to Reliance BB.

So my dilemma is don want to trail once and loose my money for this testing or go for it and try it if am lucky enough will get some cheap BB replacement for Airtel.

can anyone please post genunie thought on this?

Chidambaram: Rahul Gandhi would be PM if Congress gets reelected

Posted: 22 Jan 2014 10:13 AM PST

Rahul Gandhi will be PM if Congress re-elected: P Chidambaram - The Economic Times

Rahul Gandhi will be the prime minister of India if the Congress party returns to power after the general elections due by May, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said Wednesday, barely a few days after his party decided not to declare its PM candidate. "If Congress is called to form the government, I am pretty certain in my mind that Rahul Gandhi will be the prime minister," Chidambaram said at the World Economic Forum's annual meeting here.

Pretty cool scenario. He is the PM candidate if Congress wins. He gets the credit. Otherwise, party takes the blame.

The Hateful Eight

Posted: 22 Jan 2014 09:56 AM PST

Quentin Tarantino's next script got leaked, so now he refuses to make it · The A.V. Club

In a story of betrayal and revenge among a group of tough guys that would make for a pretty good Quentin Tarantino film—until someone leaks the script and Quentin Tarantino refuses to make it—someone has leaked the script for Tarantino's The Hateful Eight, and now he's refusing to make it. "I'm very, very depressed," the director tells Deadline's Mike Fleming Jr., explaining how he'd allowed "six motherf**king people" to lay eyes on the first draft of the Western he'd planned to shoot next winter, only to hear yesterday that his agent was besieged by calls from other agents, pitching their actors for specific roles. Well, those actors won't get any roles now: Tarantino is instead planning to publish The Hateful Eight as a book, where he can be sure no one in Hollywood will read it.

Thanks in advance for any reply !

Beware, ACT downgrades your speed before reaching FUP Limit, It happened twice to me. Who's next?

Posted: 22 Jan 2014 09:26 AM PST

ACT Customer id               :  10598129

My Oct,2013 month usage : 54.18 GB

My FUP limit                       : 60 GB (ACT Indulge plan)

My speed was reduced to 512 Kbps on Oct 27th and again on December 29th even before reaching FUP Limit.

I called customer care several times. They said the usage details are ''delayed" by 24 Hrs and
I may have reached the FUP Limit at server (Pathetic and I accepted because I don't have proofs)

I've proofs with the total usages which I got from "My usage". Every time when my usage is around 54GB, my speed goes to 512Kbps

I've suffered with Low Speeds. from 25 Mbps to 512 Kbps even before reaching FUP Limit???

Guys! Beware of ACT or if you already have ACT, keep watching your "My Usage"

Visiting Tirupati for darshan. How to go there from Bangalore or Chennai?

Posted: 22 Jan 2014 08:56 AM PST

I went to Tirupati Balaji for darshan way back in 1999-2000. Took Tamilnadu express (train) from Delhi and reached Chennai in around 35-36 hours. From there took a bus and reached Tirupati.

I once again want to go to Tirupati for darshan. To save time on travel, this time I want to travel by air. There are very few direct flights from Delhi to Tirupati and they are very expensive. So I'm thinking of taking a flight to Bangalore or Chennai and from there taking a bus. Needless to say, there are more flights between Delhi-Bangalore or Delhi-Chennai and they are much cheaper. I'll prefer going via Bangalore because last time I went through Chennai, roads of Tamilnadu were very bad.

I have been told to take a late afternoon flight from Delhi to Bangalore and from Bangalore take a Volvo bus for overnight journey to Tirupati.

Can anyone who is from that region or has been to Tirupati Balaji for darshan in recent times help me by telling the following:

1. Is this a good idea to go via Bangalore to save on air tickets or is going via Chennai a better option?

2. Where will I get the Volvo bus in Bangalore for Tirupati. Is there any website where I can check the timings of the bus and may be even book online?

3. How to get to the bus stand from Bangalore Airport?

4. Once in Tirupati, old procedure was that you were allotted a token number on Tirupati bus stand for regular (ordinary) darshan. Your time slot for darshan used to be mentioned on that token and one had to take a bus to travel to Temple around a couple of hours before that time slot. What is the procedure for getting such token now? Can we get such tokens online now before traveling?

5. Any decent but inexpensive place to stay in Tirupati? I assume that I'll have to wait for say 12-24 hours for my time slot for darshan? I'm going alone.

Anything else that I should know about?

I'm planning to start from Delhi on 20th or 21st July, 2012.

Nokia Lumia 1320

Posted: 22 Jan 2014 08:37 AM PST

http://www.engadget.com/2013/10/21/nokia-lumia-1320-press-shot-leaks/

Lumia 1320, better known by its unofficial "Batman" nickname. There aren't many clues to the specs, although it's clear that the phone would take advantage of Windows Phone GDR3's support for large displays. The side trim also supports theories that this is a Lumia 625-style budget handset, not a flagship.

So not really power-packed handset, just big screen. Hopefully it has 1 GB RAM, unlike 625 which has 512 MB RAM.

Notion Ink Adam II

Posted: 22 Jan 2014 08:26 AM PST

According to a press release (after the break) and a pamphlet reportedly given to attendees, the Adam II will sell for 12,000 Indian Rupees (about $217) later this year, packing in a 1.5 Ghz Dual-Core ARM Cortex CPU, twin 2MP cameras, 1GB RAM and up to 10 hours of battery life. HDMI, headphone and a micro USB ports crowd the device's adjacent edges, which wrap around a 10.1-inch 1280 x 800 IPS display -- a concession that was apparently made to increase longevity.

Students Discount on Apple MacBooks

Posted: 22 Jan 2014 07:56 AM PST

So a cousin is seeking to sell his MacBook non-retina and get a retina model. He asked the Vasant Kunj outlet about student discounts. He got a pretty good discount on his current edition. Surprisingly, the outlet told him that Apple is not offering student discounts right now and it is not clear when they would come back.

I personally have no idea about the thing. Anyone here has an idea? Coz I have always imagined that Apple's students discount was a constant thing that was available throughout the year. :|

Choosing HD DTH Service

Posted: 22 Jan 2014 07:54 AM PST

Hi,

I am looking for a DTH HD service in Kolkata. I want a balance between the number of channels available and the picture/sound quality. Although it seems Tata Sky and Airtel offer good quality in terms of picture and sound, they do not have the maximum number of channels (especially the regional ones) to offer. Videocom D2H and Dish TV both seems to offer a very good range of channels, but I am not being able to decide which one provides better picture and sound quality (for both SD and HD channels). There are numerous comparative reviews available online, but it is difficult to form a consolidated opinion basaed on my criteria. Would greatly appreciate if any forum member kindly throw some light on this issue and help me decide between Videocon D2H HD and Dish TV HD service.

Thank you.

speed not getting more than 4/5 mbps

Posted: 22 Jan 2014 07:29 AM PST

I changed my service from crappy 30mbps to 100mbps up and down with 30 mbps I used to get speeds like 2.4 mbps max for downloads and thus it would take me an 30 minutes or more to get 1 gb of data.

Now I have purchased googlechrome and I wanted better speed for that so i though to upgrade and I got 100mbps up and down... everything else is working fine like browsing and streaming easily with 1080P wherver available but the downloads I cant reach more than 4 or 5 mbps  for ANY downloads, I got ubuntu LTS for like 10 or so mins... but the speed is maxed out. How do i set any setting for the torrent client for higher downlaoding and I dont want to test with speedtest rather do a ftp download test  can any one suggest what do I do ?

or should i just change to crappy 30 mbps again ?

wow Just was downloading debian 3.,7 gb its saying 35 Minutes to download what the helll ???

BBNL Broadband in Sanjay Nagar

Posted: 22 Jan 2014 07:27 AM PST

I have been using Airtel broadband for the past 6yrs.. 2Mbps connection.. I tried very hard to change my plan to

4/8Mbps plan. But every time i called the customer care i was told no feasibility..

Thought to change the provider .. It was Act this time.. I placed the request 10days back and still no reply from

them..They have not told till now whether my place is feasible or not..

Finally had spoken to a BBNL guy around 6 pm ... He said they will provide a free demo installation, which we could use for 3 days and take up the connection if satisfied. Within 20 mins, 2 personel showed up and asked us to fill the form ( no proofs were asked as it is for demo ). They said they could give only modem for demo which is the wired connection. We said we use only Wifi and need wifi router. Immediately he got a brand new D-link router and

did the installation. the connection to modem was through TV cable wire. He gave us an username and password. At 7pm we got our connection.. He said the speed will be between 6-10Mbps.

Youtube 1080p videos buffered immediately without a pause.. Downloads were between 500-700.. Sometimes it even reaches 850Kbps.. From approx 250kbps to around 800kbps, its a huge leap in download experience and unlimited data usage ( ie. no FUP limit ) let me not always keep tab on my limit.

The overall experience is positive. Im still in demo period. I initially thought to have airtel for back up. But now feel its not very necessary, since this guys have been taking care of sanjay nagar area , the response is attentive.

Let me come back after using BBNL for few weeks and write my review ..

OK so rbi is also compromised. Good
In other words its 100% that he is not an Indian national and name is Indian to keep people in delusional state of mind. I am 99 %sure, Mr lungi has sold his souls to foreign masters and he facilitated all this deal to make a foreign national to be rbi governor

Nokia BL-5C

Posted: 22 Jan 2014 04:03 AM PST

Nokia has issued an Warning that the Batteries BL-5C are going to cause problem to mobiles and also persons if overheated. just read these few lines .. this news is being telecasted on all news channels.. and nokia is goign to replace them if anyone has it.

http://www.nokia.com/batteryreplacement/en/

Nokia has identified that in very rare cases the Nokia-branded BL-5C batteries subject to the product advisory could potentially experience overheating initiated by a short circuit while charging, causing the battery to dislodge. Nokia is working closely with Matsushita and will be cooperating with relevant authorities to investigate this situation.

Dear Nokia Customer,

This is a product advisory for the Nokia-branded BL-5C battery manufactured by Matsushita Battery Industrial Co. Ltd. of Japan between December 2005 and November 2006. This product advisory does not apply to any other Nokia battery.

Nokia has identified that in very rare cases the affected batteries could potentially experience over heating initiated by a short circuit while charging, causing the battery to dislodge. Nokia is working closely with relevant local authorities to investigate this situation.

Nokia has several suppliers for BL-5C batteries that have collectively produced more than 300 million BL-5C batteries. This advisory applies only to the 46 million batteries manufactured by Matsushita between December 2005 and November 2006. There have been approximately 100 incidents of over heating reported globally. No serious injuries or property damage have been reported.

Consumers with a BL-5C battery subject to this advisory should note that all of the approximately 100 incidents have occurred while charging the battery. According to Nokia's knowledge this issue does not affect any other use of the mobile device. Concerned consumers may want to monitor a mobile device while charging that contains a BL-5C battery subject to this product advisory.

While the occurrence in the BL-5C batteries produced by Matsushita in the time-period specified is very rare, for consumers wishing to do so, Nokia and Matsushita offer to replace any BL-5C battery subject to this product advisory.

The BL-5C batteries which are subject to the product advisory were used with the following Nokia models or separately as accessories:

Nokia 1100, Nokia 1100c, Nokia 1101, Nokia 1108, Nokia 1110, Nokia 1112, Nokia 1255, Nokia 1315, Nokia 1600, Nokia 2112, Nokia 2118, Nokia 2255, Nokia 2272, Nokia 2275, Nokia 2300, Nokia 2300c, Nokia 2310, Nokia 2355, Nokia 2600, Nokia 2610, Nokia 2610b, Nokia 2626, Nokia 3100, Nokia 3105, Nokia 3120, Nokia 3125, Nokia 6030, Nokia 6085, Nokia 6086, Nokia 6108, Nokia 6175i, Nokia 6178i, Nokia 6230, Nokia 6230i, Nokia 6270, Nokia 6600, Nokia 6620, Nokia 6630, Nokia 6631, Nokia 6670, Nokia 6680, Nokia 6681, Nokia 6682, Nokia 6820, Nokia 6822, Nokia 7610, Nokia N70, Nokia N71, Nokia N72, Nokia N91, Nokia E50, Nokia E60

"Nokia" and "BL-5C" are printed on the front of the battery. On the back of the battery, the Nokia mark appears at the top, and the battery identification number (consisting of 26 characters) is found at the bottom.

If you are interested to know if your battery is part of this product advisory, please follow the two steps below:

1) Switch off your mobile device and check the battery model. If your battery is not a BL-5C model, you are not included in this product advisory and your product will not be replaced.

2) If your battery is a BL-5C model, remove the battery and check the 26-character identification number from the back of the battery. Enter the identification number in the field below and you will be advised if your battery may be replaced.

How to configure BSNL Type 4 router to Reliance Broadband

Posted: 22 Jan 2014 03:47 AM PST

Hello All,
Im having BSNL dataone type 4 (UTStarcomm WA3002G4 router) which comes with 4 lan ports and wifi. Now I would like to use it for Reliance BroadBand connection as it is the only connection available in my area.
I was able to configure it and use. But what actually I want is to use it for multiple systems which previously I was to able to do with same router for Airtel,Bsnl connections.
Problem with Reliance is that userid, password details are to given in browser always. So is there any that it can be given in router directly and thereby using the router with mulitple connections.
Regards,
krishna.
