Even Blogger is down right now. 

Recently 2 wireless broadband providers reached my area.

both have ultra expensive plans where they charge approx 1000/month for 512kbps unlimited.

Now apart from this fee they are asking 3000 as Non-refundable installation charges.

which includes, Setting up a Pole on rooftop with access point/antenna along PoE from which a LAN cable would run to my

laptop or desktop.
 

However I am not understanding, when my laptop is able to get their WI-FI signals, why should there be this Antenna etc 

on my rooftop, Talked to the one who has 80% signal strength at my work desk already, but he says you cannot connect to our

network without access point setup on rooftop and lan cable running from it to laptop.

The Station he has setup is 200 mtrs by road and even closer when measured as Line of Sight, as its visible from my window.

my question is :-

1). Do i really need to have it installed ?? or he's taking me for a ride for that 3000

2). Can I manage to connect to such provider using my existing equipment which is

a).TP Link 3G Router (MR 3420)which currently serves me as wi-fi and connects to internet thru USB Dongle.

A Old BSNL Nokia Siemens SL2_141 (can it be converted to access point which he's referring to ?)

c). Netgear WG111v3 USB Wireless Adapter, which I used on ancient laptop which didn't had WI-FI inbuilt.

d) Laptops, already able to get their SSID with signals from 75-80%

I am so fed up with this 3G expense that I want to get this damn stupid connection and at-least save bandwidth on normal day to day surfing and for important speedy work I'll use 3G.

Has Anyone used (tried) , the 8 mbps plan in Mulund East (Mithagar) Area ? This plan is being offered on normal DSL . Does it give promised speed ? 

I think I am exactly 1 km travel wise from the exchange but I am not sure how to measure 1 km ? Is it the length of the line or something ?

MTNL and BSNL merger on the cards, says Kapil Sibal. What are your opinions about this, is it time ot look for other pastures? Hope this will shake them up.

The Delhi Police on Friday suspended three cops pending an inquiry after the Aam Aadmi Party uploaded a video of alleged police brutality in the national capital. The video, which comes days after Aam Aadmi Party's dharna against the Delhi Police at Rail Bhavan, shows three 'cops' beating up a man with a stick. The cops are also seen taking out money from his wallet. AAP said the video was shot on January 12. "Delhi police is known to be brutal. Every now and then we hear of stories about Delhi police's brutality. Here is another such video. Not only does the video clearly show Delhi Police's inhuman behavior but also the urban legend of police extorting money is caught on camera," AAP said in its message with the video.

I use hathway broadband  in pune PCMC region. when ever i try to access internet, 24 online page popups and asks for a login page. I actually setup wireless router(static IP) and use internet in lappy, mobile and PS3.

Problem is i'm unable to use internet continuously. After successful login, net works for sometime and logs out. This is frustrating. To resume, again i need to login through lappy or my mobile. 

I tried Auto Hathway Authentication & Hathway login apps but could not succeed.

I would like to change from BSNL to Beam. I stay in Hyderabad, DilsukhNagar area. I have few questions in regards to beam.

1) Can we buy our own modem ? If yes what is the best ?

2) Can beam provide dynamic ip's like BSNL ?

3) Is it reliable in service like continuity of the service with out many interrupts ?

4) Do they provide the speed as promised all the time till FUP is reached ?

Please share your genuine experiences and guide me on this.

It does cost a bit of money, but I work with a company in US from here in Gujarat, and consistency is needed in internet connection.

They say they guarantee speeds up to 98%, so if I take a 2 mbps plan it is guaranteed to give me 98% of that speed.

The actual commercial launch may take a few more months.

The company will offer speeds of 4 MB/second at 500 rupees per month for 10 GB usage,

monthly plans for 5 GB data at 2 MB/sec  for just 300 rupees per month.

and 8 MB/second at 900 rupees per month for 20 GB usage.

Reliance Jio will also offer an unlimited data plan with up to

15 GB usage per month at 8 MB/second and then unlimited usage

at slower speeds of 256 kilobytes/second.

The tariff for this plan will be 1,000 rupees per month. 

The company has so far finalised three pocket-sized wi-fi devices which will provide a hot-spot to connect up to 10 devices for using the 4G data services.

This is the timeline of how my installation experience has been with ACT BB.

11 Nov-2013 - I applied for a new ACT BB connection today in Kundanahalli Gate, Bangalore. I will keep you posted on the developments. 

12-Nov-2013 - At 1616 hrs, IST I receive a call from Mukund who is the ACT technician saying that the wiring has been completed to my apartment on the third floor and i would be receiving a call today at 1700 hrs, IST for username and password. Mukund confirms that I can use my internet connection from tonight.

I would term this as awesome service from an installation perspective, although I would have to wait and watch how stable the connection is post installation.

12-Nov-2013 - Cabling has been completed and just received the credentials for my broadband account at 2059 hrs, IST through email and the registered mobile number. A confirmation call was made from the customer care before the account got activated.I am still out, so I gotta go and check how the connection is. I will keep you posted. 

I have connected the cable from ACT BB to my Netgear WGR614 router.

Speed test shows rocking upload and download speeds. I am on Act Force plan.

12-Nov-2013 1159, IST - First level checks indicate amazing speeds with YouTube where I can watch videos without buffering in Full HD.

I will keep posting various workloads I consider to be bandwidth intensive and would update this thread.

So finally, after talking to local cable operator (Hathway) (who refuses to provide internet connection in my area) and ACT, who finally agreed to provide a connection thanks to Hathway's refusal. 

The sales rep collected documents for the connection.. however he was not able to answer few of my query's....

Q: Does act provide a internet ip address or does it provide a local IP address?..

I mainly need this information for hoisting test application on the internet (web based)..

I was also told that there would be a login id and password which has to be entered on to a browser. is there any way i can over come this?

Q: the rep told me that he would have to install a black box (A4 size) but was clueless about the power ratings. . Any idea how much power it would consume?

Q:is it normal that ACT would take one months advance? (subscribed to 999 plan, rep took same +taxes)

Guys so frustrated with MTNL that I am starting a thread for MTNL box location in your society. I have uploaded this pic just now after several phone call to MTNL broadband guy, AM, SDO, GM & what not however no action is taken and broaband kepps coming anfd going off. This is the worst condition and water is dripping from top from a air conditioning duck.

I am also going to sent an email with this pic to the mtnl so called babus so that they can see what the hell is going on in my society.

Airtel speed sucks and they have fup but atleast in my society they have a decent box installed with proper wiring.Here you can see the MTNL wiring and the box does not even has a close lid.

If you guys have the same or the worse scenario do share you experience with the pic.

I wanna load cash from Airtel money to my bank using my credit card. How to do that? I can't find an option to log-in to use Airtel money using my computer

I have paid the amount 6732 for 6 months on 18th Jan and the technician promised that the installation will be done max by 21st Jan. but till now no one has turnedup. I hav given repeated calls calls to the helpline but looks like the helpline dept needs some help instead of giving help as there is no proper response from them.

the person who collected the money deosnt pick the call and also he has given a technician's number but even he doesnt respond.
