Speed is a eyewash and lousy customer service Posted: 28 Nov 2013 10:31 AM PST Please don't go for ACT broadband.... The high speed is a eyewash and customer/service for any complaints is as good as non-existent Reg Speed.... do a speed test from various speedtest websites (ensure to choose a server outside India)....I got max 5Mbps and average of 2.5Mbps from 7 different websites. However, the company personnel will choose an India based server and show that your speed is 19Mbps (more than the 15Mbps you have opted for)..... you download a file from the internet and see at what speed the file gets downloaded....for me it worked out to less than 2Mbps ... this was tested by ACT themselves... however they tried to mislead me by using an incorrect conversion ratio.... so beware, they will trick you into believing that you are actually getting more than 15Mbps speed On Customer service.... In case you have any complaint, then god may answer your prayers, but ACT broadband will not answer... they will just close your complaint without addressing the issue.... I have already raised 5 complaints in the first 3 weeks of taking the connections... 4 of them have been closed without being addressed... I reopened then and they again close... the saga still continues as i write this review.... Also, be ensure that the junction box from where the connection / line is drawn has back-up power arrangements.... else, in case of a power cut in the area, the internet will not work (you may have UPS back-up but it wont help).... I am facing this issue ....everytime there is a power cut, the internet stops working (I have a generator at home but the junction box from where I am given a connection does not have power backup.... Raised a complaint and they have closed it without addressing... Have dropped emails etc... but nothing works... In short... avoid ACT Broadband |

Unique Identification Authority of India (Aadhaar) Posted: 28 Nov 2013 09:46 AM PST the govts plans to have a biometric national id cards for everyone by 2010.In usa the real id act is facing fierce resistance as 20 states have signed legislation opposition this as well in UK as groups like defyid and no2id.THis national id card makes india a police state, mass surveillance society and blurs the difference btw nazi germany and india. the supreme court has interpreted that we have the right to privacy which the national id card violates. Why isnt anyone doing to stop this.I contacted times of india ,cnn ibn, ndtv but got no reply?. we already have voter id card, passport, driver license, ration card, pan card(similar to social security card in us.).EVen is usa the ss card is not to be used as a id card.why do we need a chip card?the only thing that i can think is abut control and monitoring us. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multipurpose_National_Identity_Card_(India) once everyone has this card the govt can track your every move and switch your card if you resist or dissent. those who give up liberty for security neither deserve liberty nor security-Benjamin Franklin. the cons of having a national id card NO2ID:why not? videos http://broadbandforum.in/politics/33896-we-soon-get-our-national-id-card/3/#post315359 http://broadbandforum.in/politics/33896-we-soon-get-our-national-id-card/2/#post278474 http://broadbandforum.in/politics/33896-we-soon-get-our-national-id-card/5/#post315728 hacking http://broadbandforum.in/politics/33896-national-id-cards-india/8/#post325815 can we stop this? |
Posted: 28 Nov 2013 09:38 AM PST This is for a friend. Usage is minimum
a) Hardly 10 pages a month b ) Few scans
Preferred but not mandatory - Wireless Preferred low cost
What were all-in-one I have seen seem interdependent. For example, I am not able to scan till I have both B&W & Colour ink cartridges, similarly unable to print until I have a colour cartridge.
So does any multifunction device, all them to work independently, i.e allow to scan without ink & allow to print black without colour... |
BBG FN COMBO 600 speed is very slow Posted: 28 Nov 2013 09:01 AM PST I am getting a very low speed on BBG FN COMBO 600 connection. I have tested it in "http://speedtester.bsnl.co.in/" and it shows as "417.10kbps" = "52.14 KB/sec" which is very slow. Expected is "2Mbps" = "200KB/sec". What should I do ? Can someone throw some light on this ? Has anyone experienced this earlier ? |

BSNL S4U+ v1.0 modem / adapter replacement Posted: 28 Nov 2013 08:55 AM PST My father is using a BSNL connection at home. The modem model name is S4U+ v1.0 having power rating 5.2 V 1A. Adapter used is 5.2V DC 1A. The modem stopped working. BSNL guy checked out and said that the adapter has gone bad but they don't have any spares. We hand to replace it. Now if I go to the market I am not sure if I'll get compatible adapter or even if I get one I am not sure if the modem is faulty. So I want to look at other options. So my questions are:- 1. Are all DC adapters for modems standard ones or they vary a lot? 2. If the modern is faulty and I want to replace it which is the most compatible and easily available modem for BSNL wired broadband assuming that the S4U model is not avalanche in market. Thanks for your help! |

MTNL Broadband VDSL2 User Experiences Posted: 28 Nov 2013 06:26 AM PST I wanted to start a new experience thread simply to discuss MTNL VDSL.
SNR margins (SNRM)
Higher you sync rate, lower the SNRM will be. Lower the SNRM, lower the connection reliability. Lower reliability means frequent disconnections. Hence ISP's have a setting in DSLAM to artificially increase SNRM value for a particular phone line. Hence you sync at lower rate and line automagically becomes stable.
Attenuation may not be that important after all. It reduces sync speeds over a distance but is not an indicator of connection reliability. (You can roughly calculate your line length from it. Do it here) Apply for VDSL connection only if you are within half km. Otherwise you will get ADSL like sync rates. I will update this entry with some of our findings. Since VDSL is somewhat new to India, this thread can help some early adopters.
Currently the speeds are decent for fast servers. But single streams are slow due to a bottleneck somewhere.

Posted: 28 Nov 2013 05:12 AM PST http://www.engadget.com/2013/10/21/nokia-lumia-1320-press-shot-leaks/ Lumia 1320, better known by its unofficial "Batman" nickname. There aren't many clues to the specs, although it's clear that the phone would take advantage of Windows Phone GDR3's support for large displays. The side trim also supports theories that this is a Lumia 625-style budget handset, not a flagship. So not really power-packed handset, just big screen. Hopefully it has 1 GB RAM, unlike 625 which has 512 MB RAM. |
