Posted: 05 Sep 2013 11:04 AM PDT Affordable company and with the good services, you really cannot not go wrong. An ISP should have three important attributes in my opinion. 1. Good support 2. Quality connection 3. Value for money. And Tikona has all those.
Following are my ratings :-
Support - 8 Well organised support and honest with any open tickets and issues. Speed and connectivity - 8 Quite reliable and delivers promised speed. Would have given 10, but faced some issues in the initial phase. Value - 9 Would I recommend? Yes, they are value for money. You get what you pay for... |

Posted: 05 Sep 2013 10:25 AM PDT Like always, we now have the rumors on the upcoming movie Dhoom 2. Apparently, it still features John Abraham. In simple words, Hrithik Roshan is actually John Abraham in disguise. He is wearing a mask throughout the movie. Sounds pretty stupid right? It is indeed. |

Unique Identification Authority of India (Aadhaar) Posted: 05 Sep 2013 09:32 AM PDT the govts plans to have a biometric national id cards for everyone by 2010.In usa the real id act is facing fierce resistance as 20 states have signed legislation opposition this as well in UK as groups like defyid and no2id.THis national id card makes india a police state, mass surveillance society and blurs the difference btw nazi germany and india. the supreme court has interpreted that we have the right to privacy which the national id card violates. Why isnt anyone doing to stop this.I contacted times of india ,cnn ibn, ndtv but got no reply?. we already have voter id card, passport, driver license, ration card, pan card(similar to social security card in us.).EVen is usa the ss card is not to be used as a id card.why do we need a chip card?the only thing that i can think is abut control and monitoring us. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multipurpose_National_Identity_Card_(India) once everyone has this card the govt can track your every move and switch your card if you resist or dissent. those who give up liberty for security neither deserve liberty nor security-Benjamin Franklin. the cons of having a national id card NO2ID:why not? videos http://broadbandforum.in/politics/33896-we-soon-get-our-national-id-card/3/#post315359 http://broadbandforum.in/politics/33896-we-soon-get-our-national-id-card/2/#post278474 http://broadbandforum.in/politics/33896-we-soon-get-our-national-id-card/5/#post315728 hacking http://broadbandforum.in/politics/33896-national-id-cards-india/8/#post325815 can we stop this? |

Hathway HD (Bangalore) New connection process- Confused providers - Hathway & LCO Posted: 05 Sep 2013 09:28 AM PDT I recently bought a LG LED TV. The plan was to take a good HD connection to enjoy the TV in full. After reading through various forums, including this one - I finally decided that I would go for Hathway HD. I already own the Hathway SD Digital connection via my Local Cable Operator (in Byrasandra, C V Raman Nagar) - so assumed this would be a cake walk. However it proved to be anything but! First I contacted the LCO and he stated that they will provision the HD connection, but I had to purchase the STB from the Hathway office in Halasuru. I spoke to these guys and they confirmed that they can sell me a STB if I pay them 6.2K in cash. I agreed and promised to come down the next day. The following day (today), I called them again and confirmed that I am coming to buy the STB and they said 'come over'. I reached the place (which looked like a shady basement of an apartment, with a backdoor entrance) and told the guy on the counter that I was there to buy the HD box. His reply was that they are out of stock and have no STB for sales at the moment. I told him that I called them barely 30 minutes back about this and was asked to come. The guy pretended to have nothing to do about it. But he was helpful enough to refer me to the Indiranagar office, where he said they currently have stock. Once bitten, twice shy! I took the number of the Indiranagar office from him and promptly called them. The first question I asked them was if they have the stock of HD STB (I didnt want to drive over to their office and then be told they are out of stock). To my puzzlement, he flatly refused to answer and said that they dont sell STB to customers directly. And that my LCO has to procure the STB from them and complete the installation. When I told him the two different experiences I had from LCO & Hathway Halasuru office, he just said that he cant do much about it and he is just following the process he has been told to follow. I gave him a verbal bashing (the mild kind) which included the joys of the customer having to run from pillar to post to get a connection and having to hear a totally new process at every turn. He knew that I had a point and backed down on his stand. He asked me to come with 6.2K cash along with address proof and he will sell the STB. However, he also said that my LCO needs to contact his manager to confirm that I need this (ahem!) By this stage, I was feeling like I was in a Govt office trying get some work done. I thanked the guy and called my LCO. His turn to hear the bashing (again, mild one - I have to continue to have my connection active afterall ). The LCO promised a call back after he checks this situation. I didn't have much hope. To my surprise, the LCO called me back promptly in 10 minutes and mentioned that he will get my STB procured and setup, just that I need to pay him 200 bucks extra. However, since they are out of stock at the moment, he wanted 3 - 4 days time to get this done. I was only too happy to agree - rather than burning petrol (at the price it sells today), I agreed to pay the 200 bucks and be done with it. Now, the wait begins. I once again am not confident that the STB stock would come in 3 - 4 days (coincidentally, when I took the SD connection, I had to wait for more than a week as Hathway was out of stock of STB). But I am hoping I will be proved wrong and the STB comes quickly - and I can start enjoying the HD. Update on 17th Sept: Weekend arrived, but no HD yet. Frustrated, I called my LCO and he says that he didnt do anything since I promised to get the set top box myself. I had to take him through my entire struggle once again and tell him that his office had promised delivery/setup in 3 days. He said he will check and call back. In the interim, I called the Indiranagar office again (got the same guy who I spoke/bashed the other day) and told them situation. He asked me to get the LCO to call him - I relayed this back to the LCO. LCO called back in about 30 mins. He asked me to submit an Address proof and Rs. 6400 in his office and that he will get the connection done by evening. So I parted with these two and started counting down the time to evening. At around 7 PM, the LCO called and informed that he had been in the Indiranagar office for the past 3 hours, but due to some server issue they are unable to activate my STB/Smart card. They promised that they would do it the next day. However, since the next day was a Sunday, I wasnt so confident and told them the same. However, they promised to do it by morning and even gave me a contact number whom I can chase for status. The next morning, no one arrived as promised and so I called the guy whose number was given. He was totally clueless and told me that he didnt even belong to the HD dept, but worked for the Internet side of Hathway. Here we go again! Finally, at around 1 PM afternoon, the LCO came in with the STB and set it up. He spoke to some one in Hathway and had them enable the STB/Smartcard and - THERE - the HD channels on my new TV Once the LCO had gone, I sat back and started reviewing the channels! Like some one else told me - the wait was worth it! No doubt. The HD channels were awesome, especially Star Cricket, ESPN, Ten HD and Star Movies. The others were good too, but I found these to be the best. However, I have a small niggle - every 10 mins or so, the picture freezes for a few seconds (2 - 3 secs max) and then resumes. This is not too bothersome, but still a blip in the otherwise TOO GOOD reception. I have spoken to the LCO and asked him to check this - hoping that it will get addressed. Other users of Hathway HD - please let me know if any of you have the freezing problem like mine. Overall rating of the HD channels: 9/10 It really is impressive! *Jeash* |
Posted: 05 Sep 2013 09:24 AM PDT I had two BSNL broadband connections, one of which dated back to 2004-5. Since last two years one of my connection was giving problem during rainy season, during rains it used to frequently disconnect and my complaint to them met deaf ears. Once a pro BSNL customer, I finally decided to get rid of them and shift to airtel, I applied for surrender of both my connections and two new connections from airtel. Got the airtel connection the very next day, where BSNL took 10 days and various visits to get one of my connection disconnected, while they refuse to disconnect another one on the pre-text that they need the modem they had provided me to be returned. The modem in question was given to me in 2010 upon opting for 1yr committed period ( I had disconnected my line for a year in 2009, so it was kind of new connection in 2010), their service record shows "FREE" modem, and they saying that I need to return them the "FREE" modem. Hilarious, I know, I went and spoke to the DE who is not willing to listen, spoke to the CO, who says she cant do anything and I need to speak to the DE, at the end frustrated I was, I requested the CO to charge me for the modem in the next bill but at least disconnect the broadband. She says she will try to speak to the DE and get it charged in the next bill and let me know. They don't even understand the meaning of "FREE".
Finally, good riddance ! (provided they disconnect by charging me for the modem Rs 1000/-) |

Posted: 05 Sep 2013 07:53 AM PDT Hi Guys, have been using Reliance wired broadband service for almost 3 years now and was "semi" satisfied with the service. Recently i shifted to a new place and checked with local guy if the connection could be transferred, there was no reliance coverage in the new place as per him. So I called up customer care on Aug 10th and put in a request to cancel the connection (207223100), its been 19 days now and the connection is still not terminated. I was using the new thunder 699 plan which is a advanced rental plan, i have already paid the bill for Aug month on 5th itself. Reliance has sent me a bill again, I have got a confirmation mail from reliance acknowledging the termination request. How can they send me a bill again when im in advanced rental plan and have req for termination, its pathetic to talk to the cc as one would only get the drone reponse. "Sir, I am escalating sir. Someone will call you soon sir".
What i dont understand is why would it take 20 days just to terminate a connection?? I am sick and tired of this!! |

Laptop unable to detect wifi router-MTNL Posted: 05 Sep 2013 07:37 AM PDT I have been using MTNL Wifi since March 2013. One problem that i have been encountering is that my Laptop and android mobile stops detecting the wifi router after 2-3 days of wifi setup. Though it detects the wifi networks of the adjoining areas but doesn't detect mine. Once i reset the wifi modem it starts detecting the modem and wifi works fine. However after 2-3 days this problem occurs again. I complained about this issue to MTNL guys who suggested that this is a common problem being faced by many customers who are using MTNL provided Binatone DSL Wifi Modem. He suggested me to buy my own wifi modem and this issue will get resolved. I recently bought D-Link ADSL+wifi router 2750. But the problem remained as it is. Initially it got connected and after 2-3 days it stopped detecting my wifi modem. I am not able to understand why this thing is happening. The important thing to note here is that my laptop and andorid mobile detects wifi networks in the close vicinity howeven not mine. Once i reset the modem everything works fine and after 2-3 days it will stop detecting the wifi.
Please help as i am not able to find any permanent solution to this problem. |
