Suggest a Multifunction Printer for Home

Posted: 03 Sep 2013 11:41 AM PDT

I want to buy a printer for home. My usage is mostly photocopying and little printing. I currently use a HP printer that has seen better days.
My needs are:

-Printer, Scanner, Copier

-Only A4 printing, colour and B/W both. No photo printing.

Optional(depends on the price):
-Wireless printing from phone and laptop.
-Touchscreen

I'm open to buying HP and Canon. After sales must be good(I'm happy with the HP one).

I saw these:http://www8.hp.com/in/en/products/printers/index.html?facet=Home-and-home-office#!view=column&page=1&facet=Home-and-home-office%7C%7CWireless

What do you suggest? And what about canon?

In India, if you are less than 18 years old...

Posted: 03 Sep 2013 10:41 AM PDT

A very serious thought came into my mind last night. I thought I might share it with you guys. In India, if you are less than 18 years old, then you can-

1) rape women

2) kill people

3) do burglary

4) do many crimes

And, get away with max 3 years sentence. This is very serious issue. The so called juvenile in delhi gangrape case, despite proven guilty and was told to be the most vicious in that rape got away with just 3 years sentence. He was 17 years and 6 months old while he commited that crime. 17 & half years old committing such heinous crime, should be given death penalty. The law is so outdated and static. Now, in mumbai gangrape case, one accused said he was minor giving his leaving certificate as a proof. I don't know if they really do bone check for determining the age. I really don't trust the machinery in India. But, he could also get away swiftly.

So, point I'm trying to make here is, If  you are less than 18 years old in India, you can do whatever, and get away very easily. What are your thoughts....

Broadbrand provider alternative

Posted: 03 Sep 2013 07:10 AM PDT

I m frustrated with in2net no wifi policy.

I m quite pro in networking, i firstly configured my wifi myself with cloned mac id and PPPoE connection only after few weeks to be blocked by their staffs. I asked my local cable provider he told me that I need to ask one of their staff and pay them for fixing it.

I saw what he did was mostly what i did, only thing was he had contacts inside from where he unblocked it (in front of me he called and provided them with my username), I paid him that time. Now again my wifi is blocked, I tried to call that bloke and asked for support that guy straight forward refused to fix it rather told me that i would need to come to my house and fix it (so he can again get paid i guess).

Frustrated by this i m thinking of getting another broadband provider which provides wifi, Please no MTNL as it just does not work for me.

Please suggest, I stay in Mumbai, Bhandup, Gadhav Naka area.

If anybody has alternate plan to fix my wifi even that would do.

Tata Sky DTH now replacing MPEG2 STBs with MPEG4 STBs for free!

Posted: 03 Sep 2013 06:55 AM PDT

We are replacing close to 5-6 million MPEG-2 SD STBs at no cost to consumers over the next year. All of this is coming in from internal accruals.

But you need to wait for one more year to see many new channels

We have been adding channels in a phased manner; the process will now be accelerated with the MPEG-4 STB. By June-July next year we should be able to revise our channel offerings to consumers,

Android Phone. Budget 14k

Posted: 03 Sep 2013 05:13 AM PDT

Alright, need to buy a new phone for mom. Has to be android. Budget is 14k. Can be stretched to 15k at the outset. She doesn't want mmx/carbon/xolo, so that's out. I thought of the Xperia M/L (more so M, as L is around 17k)

Any suggestions?

need 2 hd dvr, which is best?

Posted: 03 Sep 2013 04:57 AM PDT

as MTNL iptv has shut down in Delhi,i am now about to buy 2 hd dvr connections , this will cost me around 14k initially so this being not a small amount i wanted your valuable inputs based on these parameters-

1. Reliability of stb hardware. (topmost priority)

2.smoothness in operating interface.

so which 1 should i go for? Airtel vs tatasky vs videocon???

The highest download speed you ever reached

Posted: 03 Sep 2013 04:10 AM PDT

Once at a friend's place (hostel) there was an unsecured wifi network, and I downloaded at almost 1MBps. I would often go to his place to download. But, after 1-2 months the network became secured and so it was the end of delight. So, anyways what is the highest download speed you have ever got?

Microsoft acquiring Nokia (Devices and Services Divisions)

Posted: 03 Sep 2013 03:48 AM PDT

Confirmed now.

Nokia Corporation today announced that it has signed an agreement to enter into a transaction whereby Nokia will sell substantially all of its Devices & Services business and licence its patents to Microsoft for EUR 5.44 billion in cash, payable at closing. Nokia expects to book a gain on sale of approximately EUR 3.2 billion, and expects the transaction to be significantly accretive to earnings.

Subject to the closing of the transaction, Microsoft will acquire substantially all of Nokia's Devices & Services business, including the Mobile Phones and Smart Devices business units as well as an industry-leading design team, operations including all Nokia Devices & Services production facilities, Devices & Services-related sales and marketing activities, and related support functions. At closing, approximately 32,000 people are expected to transfer to Microsoft, including approximately 4,700 people in Finland. Nokia's CTO (Chief Technology Office) organization and patent portfolio will remain within the Nokia Group. The operations that are planned to be transferred to Microsoft generated an estimated EUR 14.9 billion, or almost 50%, of Nokia's net sales for the full year 2012.

Additionally, Microsoft will become a strategic licensee of the HERE platform, and will separately pay Nokia for a four year license. This revenue stream is expected to substantially replace the revenue stream HERE is currently receiving from Nokia's Devices & Services business internally. If the transaction closes Microsoft is expected to become one of the top three customers of HERE.

Instead, you'll get a dual-core, 1GHz Snapdragon S4 paired with 512MB RAM and 4GB Storage, a microSD card slot that'll boost your space up to 64GB and a 5-megapixel rear and VGA forward-facing cameras. Prospective purchasers will be looking into a 4.5-inch qHD 960 x 540 display that seems to do a job, although our instincts tell us that the backlight might struggle in direct sunlight. Internals-wise, there's a 1.4GHz Snapdragon 400 paired with 8GB storage / 1GB RAM, and it certainly managed to cope with whatever we threw at it during our brief time with the device. There's also a microSD card slot which'll let you add up to 64GB more storage as well as DLNA and Bluetooth 4.0. The company has emphasized the importance of browsing for this device, so we decided to test the claim with a cheeky run of SunSpider 0.9.1. We found that the 601 produced a benchmark of 1027.7, which beats what we found on the One Mini -- although take an isolated benchmark on a pre-release device with the requisite pinches of salt.

SC makes it clear: Govt will have to ban Porn

Posted: 03 Sep 2013 12:46 AM PDT

The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to various ministries of the central government on a PIL seeking modification of internet laws to make watching pornography a non-bailable offence.

A bench of Chief Justice Altamas Kabir and Justices A R Dave and Vikramjit Sen issued notice on Kamlesh Vaswani's petition saying existing laws had failed to prohibit proliferation of internet pornography and alleged that it was affecting the younger generation and resulting in increasing sexual assaults on women.

Appearing for the petitioner, senior advocate M N Krishnamani said the government urgently needed to take pro-active steps to block all pornographic websites as they were affecting the "peace of mind, health and wellness, happiness and human potential".
