The general cricket discussion thread

Posted: 13 Sep 2013 12:22 PM PDT

Why this thread?

So often, we have some random thought or point to make/discuss , and I personally sometimes skip it as I feel it is not worthy of a new thread & feel its unfair to hijack an existing thread...

Would recommend creating new thread for any big news & as usual we have threads for specific series/tournaments.. This is for something general random posts related to cricket...Kind of the Cricket Offtopic thread...

Will start with one post

Misbah & Taibu seem to competing with each other for the prize of who can bat more defensively....

After beating NZ in the 3rd ODI with a draing chase... Now Zimbabwe are on verge on possibly upsetting them in the Only Test...

Acer Chromebook with Intel Haswell

Posted: 13 Sep 2013 12:19 PM PDT

One of the first Chromebooks to come blessed with Intel's Haswell processor is the new Acer Chromebook, and we had a chance to get a closer look at it today. If not for the "new" moniker that Acer has so kindly bestowed on it, at first glance you'd be hard-pressed to find much different in comparison to its C7 predecessor.

Nuwan Kulasekara (SL) - Chennai Super Kings/ Kandurata Maroons

Kumar Sangakkara will have to choose between playing for Kandurata Maroons and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the upcoming Champions League T20 in India, after Sri Lanka Cricket have expressed a strong desire for him to represent Kandurata in the tournament. SLC has gone as far as seeking legal counsel on whether they can ask Sangakkara to play for Kandurata, even if it will effectively cost both Sangakkara and the board significant sums of money if he plays for his local team.

Jonathan Ive: Apple is not in the business of making money

Posted: 13 Sep 2013 11:36 AM PDT

Their sole aim is to make great products.

Apple design chief: 'Our goal isn't to make money' - Telegraph

Sir Jonathan Ive, whose personal fortune stands at an estimated at $130m, said yesterday that Apple's guiding principle was nothing to do with its balance sheet, and that it simply wanted to make "great products".
"Our goal isn't to make money. Our goal absolutely at Apple is not to make money. This may sound a little flippant but it's the truth," said the British designer, who is credited with shaping the iPad and iPhone.
"Our goal and what gets us excited is to try and make great products. We trust that if we are successful people will like them, and if we are operationally competent we will make revenue, but we are very clear about our goal."

Tata Sky DTH now replacing MPEG2 STBs with MPEG4 STBs for free!

Posted: 13 Sep 2013 11:26 AM PDT

We are replacing close to 5-6 million MPEG-2 SD STBs at no cost to consumers over the next year. All of this is coming in from internal accruals.

But you need to wait for one more year to see many new channels

We have been adding channels in a phased manner; the process will now be accelerated with the MPEG-4 STB. By June-July next year we should be able to revise our channel offerings to consumers,

So, opinions about Yes Bank?

Posted: 13 Sep 2013 11:09 AM PDT

As part of the process of shutting down my account in Standard Chartered, I am applying for a new savings account in Yes Bank.

One of the primary reason is the 7% interest they give on savings accounts. Apart from that, I have little idea.

Wanted to hear about user experiences about their offline and online services and of course about any hidden charges.

Machete Kills

Machete Kills - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Machete Kills is an upcoming action exploitation film, which is currently to be directed by Robert Rodriguez. It is a sequel to both the 2010 film, Machete, the fake trailer in Grindhouse and a spin-off of Spy Kids. The script has been written by Rodriguez and the film will star Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan and Michelle Rodriguez all reprising their roles from the first film and newcomers to the series, Lady Gaga, Vanessa Hudgens, Mel Gibson, Demián Bichir, Alexa Vega, Zoe Saldana, Amber Heard and Charlie Sheen. The film will follow the titular ex-federale (Trejo) as he is recruited by the US government to stop an arms dealer (Gibson) from launching a deadly missile. Rodriguez has stated that he may have to hire another director if filming clashes with Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

User Review: Barnes & Noble Nook HD+ 16GB

Seeing the news of price drop of Nook HD and Nook HD+ on IBF I immediately decided to get one for me, as my existing cheapo tablet had started showing signs of ageing (low battery backup, unmanageable lag everywhere).  So, I contacted a friend in US and he ordered a 9" HD+ 16GB for me, and seeing the price drop he got a 7" HD version for himself.  The net price for me was US$158 which includes shipping and taxes, turned out to be around 9k.  It was delivered to my friend on 21st June.  But it was going to be a longer wait to reach me as his parents would be arriving here on September.  And finally it reached Mumbai on 11th September and I collected it from them today.  As soon as I connected it to Wi-Fi it downloaded and installed a software update (v2.1.1), which was a massive 414MB update.

Pros:
• The tablet feels good to hold due to its rubberized back and matt finish bezel.
• The 9" display is really awesome, almost close to the retina display of iPad 3.  This is the main reason I got this tablet.
• 16GB on-board memory out of which 15.1GB is user accessible, with MicroSD slot which supports up to 64GB.
• Google Play access, which was added recently via a software update.
• Casual games run fine without any frameskips.  Have not tried any high end games yet.
• Wi-Fi signal quality is pretty good.
• 6000mah battery.
• Official Cyanogenmod support, active development at XDA

Cons:
• The tablet is a bit on the heavier side (most probably due to the 6000mah battery).
• Noticed very slight lags while navigating UI, negligible though.
• Highly skinned Android 4.0 OS.
• No option to sideload apk files (a patch is available which enables it).
• Proprietary data connector (looks a lot like the older iPhone/iPod data connector).
• No camera (at least a front camera for Skype/Google Hangouts would have been nicer).

Overall I am pretty impressed with this tablet, especially the display.  Perfect for my requirements.  Please feel free to ask any questions or anything you want me to try out on this tablet.

Online streaming is not smooth on Reliance Broadband

Posted: 13 Sep 2013 05:48 AM PDT

Hello,

I apologize if this topic is already discussed.

Installed reliance broadband 2days back, 2Mbps pack.

I get proper speed while torrent download, once i got 10Mbps for a torrent (downloaded a movie-700MB in 34mins.)

Youtube works fine. Can watch 480p videos without any issue.

But when it comes to online streaming (other than youtube), its not at all smooth. Video keeps stuttering all the time, for all video qualities 240,360,480
I cleaned all cache and all such things needed to be done.

As i have not disconnected my previous internet connection (BSNL 512kbps ) yet, i tried streaming there. Its smooth for 240p.

Please help me with this.

Is there any software that can help me use the full bandwidth while surfing?

Regards.
