Suggest desktop for home use

Posted: 24 Aug 2013 12:33 PM PDT

Hi guys ¡ I am trying to buy a desktop for last 2 years with 30,000 rupees in my pocket. But I was confused by my engineer friend, though he was right in his place to go for high end processors (as good resale value). I am still having same money in my pocket today and want a desktop (pre built or assembled ) for basic home use like all types of internet uses ( like filling online forms, paying bills, emails, downloading & printing files),school & college projects & presentations & other basic learning & educational study purposes a medical student might need. I dont need gaming machine ,occasionally some of the family members might use it for watching movies, listening to music on CD ,DVD.If you suggest pre built then which brand & model , and if assembled then what configuration will suit my needs the best. I am from biology field and not very tech savvy so please explain in detail .Also can I get a printer in this budget. I will be very grateful to you as I am fed up of visiting cyber cafes every now & then.

Does God Exist?

Posted: 24 Aug 2013 11:54 AM PDT

Does God Exist?

This is one of the best explanations of why God
allows pain and suffering that I have seen. It's an explanation other people will understand.

A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and
his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects.

When they eventually touched on the subject of God,
the barber said: "I don't believe that God exists."

"Why do you say that?" asked the customer.

"Well, you just have to go out in the street to
realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine loving a God who would allow all of
these things."

The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkempt.

The customer turned back and entered the barber shop
again and he said to the barber: "You know what? Barbers do not exist."

"How can you say that?" asked the surprised barber.
"I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!"

"No!" the customer exclaimed. "Barbers don't exist
because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside."

"Ah, but barbers DO exist! What happens is, people
do not come to me."

"Exactly!"- affirmed the customer. "That's the point! God, too, DOES exist! What happens, is, people don't go to Him and do not look for Him. That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world."

Bryan Cranston could play Lex Luthor in Superman/Batman movie!

Posted: 24 Aug 2013 11:49 AM PDT

Bryan Cranston has been cast as Lex Luthor in what is said to be at least a six "appearance" deal (think of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury popping up in every Marvel movie in the run-up to Avengers) and may be as high as ten. DC is going to have all of their main characters liberally appearing or at least mentioned in all of their movies to portray a more connected world than what Marvel Studios has done so far.DC also does have major interest in bringing Matt Damon into the Justice League now that Affleck is on board, and it is rumored that he is being considered for Aquaman or Martian Manhunter.

Very Awkward Routing - Ireland to India - BSNL Broadband

Posted: 24 Aug 2013 11:20 AM PDT

Hi Guys, here is the result of a traceroute performed on BSNL Broadband from Ireland to India.

Routing is Europe------>Atlantic------->North America-------->Pacific--------->South Asia------->India.

Isn't this route awkward ?

Shouldn't the correct & shorter route be through West Coast of India ?

New ISP and New Modem needed..

Posted: 24 Aug 2013 11:05 AM PDT

Hey everyone

I just shifted to Punjab..near DeraBassi..I'm searching for a new ISP and from the reviews i heard that Connect was providing good service..But i found out that they don't have feasibility in my area..So all i'm left with is BSNL and airtel..I'm inclined towards BSNL as it is cheaper but please guide me..

ALso more importantly i have never used modem/router as previously i used reliance dongle for my net connection issues..but that broke down and now i need a new modem cum router too..

BSNL is providing me the modem and charging 1800 for it but i don't think that modem would be too good..

SO here i am for your opinions and advice and these are the modems i'm looking forward to buy but finding impossible to decide..

http://www.flipkart.com/router/compare?ids=RTRDGGQ754BDWH7U,RTRD4KY4UNGYCZFG,RTRDFFYG3HZJRTYV

I have my inclination towards TP link router as i have seen very good reviews for it..

but their

Standard IEEE IEEE 802.3u, IEEE 802.3

^ this thing is confusing me as all others are supporting different protocol that is 802.11 b/g/n ...SO please guide me if i should go ahead with BSNL and the above mentioned modem or not??

Also what modem do BSNL provide??Is the modem that i'm browsing as indicated in link above compatible with them??I'm a newbie when it comes to modems and routers so please excuse for any blunders..

I would appreciate all the help..

Fivenet UT 5 Mbps plan in Thane

Posted: 24 Aug 2013 10:59 AM PDT

Yesterday i saw an annual plan of UT 5mbps (640KBps) for Rs. 6999/ in Thane. This seems very impressive. A 5mbps unlimited for just 7000 bucks. Even if i get 70%of what is promised I'll get approx  450 KBps and it will cost me about 600 rs per month. Has anyone in thane opted for this plan?  Or can anyone tell me haw are the high speed plans of 5Net in thane or mumbai as well? Do you get the promised speed or at least 70% of the promised speed? I stay in Thane at Brahmand. Thnx.

Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 A240

Posted: 24 Aug 2013 10:57 AM PDT

http://www.androidos.in/2013/08/micromax-a240-exclusive/

Micromax will introduce its next flagship smartphone very soon, according to sources with information on the matter. The new smartphone will be dubbed as A240 and sport a 5.7-inch 720p HD display, the sources told us. While the exact launch date is unclear at this moment, we are expecting an announcement as early as next week.

With such a giant display on-board, Micromax A240 will be competing with Samsung's Galaxy Mega 5.8. The smartphone will be powered by 1.2GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589 processor and come with Android 4.2 and 12MP rear camera with LED flash.

According to sources, A240 will also pack 5MP front camera, dual-SIM support, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and 2,600 mAh battery.

In terms of the software customisations, the phone is expected to include all tweaks that were made available as a part of A210 Canvas 4 including support for vertical panorama in camera app, video pinning to home-screen support, Flip to mute, and Smart Pause.

Pricing: Micromax A240 will most likely carry a price-tag around INR 18,000 similar to Canvas 4 launch price.

Well this looks more like a Note/Mega competitor than flagship to me. But then.. who knows..

Tata Docomo 3G for USB tethering on Laptop

Posted: 24 Aug 2013 10:56 AM PDT

Hello all!

This is my first topic in this forum, and it is partly a complaint and partly a request for more information about my problem with Tata docomo.

Firstly, my handset (Asus fonepad) is not supported by Tata docomo as I have seen it in their website. I bought Tata docomo sim 2 months ago and recharged with Rs250 to get 3G internet access along with phone call facility. But since the handset is not supported, I had to manually enter APN (Tata.docomo.internethvc).

It worked well, but my internet is extremely intermittent. Sometimes it works (I can see blue 'H' symbol on my fonepad) and sometimes it gets disconnected for long periods of time. Yet, other times it works only partially (I see grey symbol of 'H' on my fonepad near the signal strength symbol) such that only some websites open and most of the websites do not open (including google!).

So my question is if it is the problem with Tata docomo 3G service itself or is the problem with my device? Or is my internet plan (Rs250 ) the wrong one? My device supports both GSM and WCDMA modes. In case there is any internet plan that will allow me 24/7 internet connectivity on my fonepad?

Should I change my ISP to Airtel or Idea? I was told by the Tata Docomo staff in their shop that intermittent internet connectivity is a normal problem for 3G and exists for all the service providers. Is this true?

Thank you.

So often, we have some random thought or point to make/discuss , and I personally sometimes skip it as I feel it is not worthy of a new thread & feel its unfair to hijack an existing thread...

Would recommend creating new thread for any big news & as usual we have threads for specific series/tournaments.. This is for something general random posts related to cricket...Kind of the Cricket Offtopic thread...

Will start with one post

I reapplied for Connect  Broadband as backup connection for some reasons. I have DSL 399 plan on this, i don't know why but they downgraded me to 128kbps from 512kbps after 1GB of use (WTF ?). I am just wondering do TRAI allow this, post FUP speed of 128kbps instead of 256kbps? Should i contact Connect customer service about this ? This is really ridiculous !

How many devices can I connect to Tikona Broadband?

Posted: 24 Aug 2013 07:56 AM PDT

I have a Tikona broadband connection of HYDM4096. I want to share the connection with 5 laptops. I have an old D-link DWL-G700AP wireless access point device and i am able to get a wireless access point using the same and in the lan port i have connected the RJ-45 pin from the base of the tikona unit. I am able to access internet in the laptops but the problem is I have to login to tikona from each of them separately. Thus i can only connect 3 laptops simultaneously. The rest two shows authentication error when i login. So do i need a router to connect to tikona using all the 5 laptops simultaneously. I have searched the net and liked this router TP-LINK TL-WR740N but the problem is i am not sure if a router will solve my problem. So please help me here. Should I buy this router. Will it enable me to connect all 5 laptops simutaneously?

Placed an order on September 2nd 2012, it was sunday.

According to their shipping conditions the order should be shipped within 7 working days,
so I contacted the customer service to know the status.

Wait time of 10 minutes and the agent would read out what you can see on the website itself,
plus he added the order should be shipped by Sept 11, 2012.

Tracking system doesn't work, by the way this tracking status is for a product that shipped on September 5, 2012.

as I ordered two products, one is shipped while the other, major one is not.

Funny thing was the agent asking for the survey, after he provided me nothing new information and the wait of 10 minutes :D
