Indian Mobile Phone brands

Posted: 27 Jul 2013 11:07 AM PDT

Hello Everybody

I always have an opinion that we should not invest considerable money in Google Android based mobile phones if it is not the top end mobile phone.

Buying Google Nexus based mobile phones would protect our investment for some period of time.

As daily new mobile phones from Indian Companies or foreign companies are being released.

So, i always would keep an eye on India based Android brands.

As I have seen many mid-range android mobile phones from prominent brands too sucks.

But, people around me would always advise me to resist Android mobile phones developed or sold by Indian companies.

Previously, india based android mobile phones would small battery to easily deem it as inferior.

But nowadays only differentiation for India based android mobile phones are the processor being used, which is always would be based on MTK.

Are all in-expensive android mobile phones sold by Indian Companies are that much inferior or short-lived ?

Are all mobile phones sold by Indian companies are Chinese re-branded models ?

I invite members who use Android mobile phones sold by Indian companies to give their insights,

I noticed that my IP address's had never gone below 117.119.xxx.xxx range and above 117.220.xxx..xxx . It means BSNL has locked northern users to that IP range ? BTW i am from PUNJAB. Let me know if you have info about this

Tata DOCOMO Network went down in Bangalore and Chennai. How is that possible?

Posted: 27 Jul 2013 09:57 AM PDT

Hello Everybody

Tata Docomo's Network has went down two days back for the entire city of Chennai and Bangalore for a considerable time period.

Tata docomo customer support provided polished an confusing explanation of network fluctuations.

As mobile network operates in a decentralized method, each district or town would be covered by multiple towers.

Those towers can go down for a variety of reasons and can disrupt the coverage in the surrounding.

But, can anybody offer me an correct and technical explanation for a mobile network to go down for an entire city?

Mapathon Contest Winners are still waiting for their prizes thanks to the government

Posted: 27 Jul 2013 09:40 AM PDT

Google has sent out an email to Google India Mapathon participants stating that is unable to announce the winners of the contest that was due on July 23rd because of security concerns expressed by the Survey of India (SOI). Google had emailed participants also at the end of the contest to inform them of the concerns of the Indian government. The Delhi Police had begun to investigate the contest after a complaint was filed against Google Mapathon 2013 in early April by the Survey of India. The Survey of India, a government body mandated with the task of surveying and mapping the country, filed a complaint against Google at the RK Puram police station in Delhi stating that the program conducted by Google was against the country's National Map Policy and map restrictions policies issued by the Defense Ministry.

Excellent and Unexpected Service From Mtnl Mumbai

Posted: 27 Jul 2013 03:21 AM PDT

Hi,

I have been a MTNL mumbai user since long back when they had the 4500 unlimited plan.

After that, i migrated to the Rs.2500  100 Gb plan.

Usually never needed any support except once when i needed a Sim change and that was handled pretty fast the CSC.

Just wanted to let users know about my current experience.

So, I use the Sim in Mumbai, Pune and Currently have just Moved onto Bangalore where i am using my MTNL mumbai sim on Roaming for Data Only.

Since moving to bangalore, was facing a severe speed issue and speeds never crossed 50 kbps (the kbps is correct) which from my understanding, was slower that my vodafone 2g which i use on Mobile (unfortunately, vodafone does not have 3g in Karnataka).

After filing 2-3 complaints and getting pissed off, i finally wrote a email explaining my problem in details, providing my contact number and all relevant information and emailed to a few emails ids i found. i will not post them here but they are available on the MTNL mumbai website for all.(if someone is not able to find it and has tried all other resolution mechanisms, let me know and i will provide it)

This i sent at around 11 Am 23rd July 2014 (yesterday)

Now the magic started happening. Within ~30 mins  get a call from MTNL Mumbai clarifying my problem and asking locations details of where exactly i am and so on.

This was followed up by an Email confirming that the problem is under resolution and both MTNL and BSNL(since karnataka is BSNL) officials have been informed and that i should be getting multiple calls from different locations soon and continuous followup happening.

Next, around 3 Pm, someone from MTNL mumbai called me saying that we have not found any problems with the MTNL network in Mumbai and the problem lies somewhere else and we can only check once i come back to mumbai. she did not seem to know i was not in mumbai but in bangalore (maybe this person was not informed )

next around 15 mins after that, i get another call confirming the same as above and updating me that BSNL has been informed and they are continuously following up on this and will keep me updated. They also mentioned that they are sharing my contact details with BSNL and i should expect a call soon.

around 5 Pm, i get a call from BSNL  asking me mylocation details, where i am using and so on.

Now, Today, around 11 Am, i get a call from MTNL mumbai asking me when is the best time to call me and put me on conference with a team from BSNL (was shocked that they actually care about mytime preference)

Now, i get a call from MTNL and then they put me in conference with a guy from ZTE - BSNL which i think handles their network in Karnataka.

Did not need to explain anything else and the guy from BSNL just asked me to connect to internet and check the speed and he is doing the same from his end (something like adding my number on his monitor or something).

Seeing vast improvement in speed. Youtube videos playing perfectly.

In the past 1 hour, i have already received 3 confirmation calls(from the same guy from MTNL) for the speed issue, explaining me the issue and apologizing and providing direct contact details of the person from BSNL and asking me to call him directly for any issues i face in future.

Sorry for the Long post but this kind of a service given by MTNL was worth the post.

btw, currently getting 2 mbps in Bangalore on 3G

Using 3G phone data plans on Unlocked data card

Posted: 27 Jul 2013 02:23 AM PDT

Hi Geeks,

Need your help on the following :search:

Using 3G sims on unlocked data cards have become common practice now.

What I want to know is -
If I use a 3G sim on a data card (+phone data plan) on a 3G data card, will the telco/operator know this?
If yes - how do I make them think I'm still using a phone.

As far as techincality goes - whenever we use any device on a network; the device identifier is passed on to the telco - so they know my device's brand/model, OS/OS version (smartphones), device data capabilities (GPRS, EGDE, UMTS, HSUPA et al), display details (phone/tab/phablet et al)etc.
Does the same thing happen for data cards too?
My guess - they do and their network/bandwidth management hinges on this.
As most data card pipes are on a different bandwidth rule (low latency, high potency) than mobile devices.

If yes, can we play with any files to camouflage our device footprint and give it a phone identifier.
(like browser identifiers - having an IE identifier for mozilla or vice versa).
There must be some ini/inf files we can play with.

Reasons for this project:
1. Data plans for 3G phones are much cheaper than data plans for data cards.
2. Most 3G plans have a rider - where to be used i.e phone or a data card.
ex. the new Reliance Rs 123/- 3G pack is for phones/tabs only. They even have a disclaimer for de-activation on violation.

If anyone has done something similar - do let me know
If my above hypothesis works - then all of us can save a lot of money.

Thanks in advance :semi-twins:

BSNL Broadband capacity is down by around 21%

Posted: 27 Jul 2013 12:15 AM PDT

http://www.readability.com/articles/z84fbal3

"... three major cables which are serving as the International Gateway Connectivity are affected because of the multiple fibre cuts," BSNL said in a statement.

"The Sea-Me-We-4, IMEWE and EIG cable systems are the ones affected. Because of this disruption, BSNL has lost around 21 per cent of its total international Bandwidth," it added.

Annoying part of the article?

It, however, could not be ascertained whether BSNL's customers are experiencing any trouble due to drop in bandwidth.

Google Project Loon

google announces project loon, balloon powered internet access.

A ring of balloons, flying around the globe on the stratospheric winds provide Internet access to the earth below. The system uses balloons, carried by the wind at altitudes twice as high as commercial planes, to beam Internet access to the ground at speeds similar to today's 3G networks or faster. As a result, balloons could become an option for connecting rural, remote, and underserved areas, and for helping with communications after natural disasters.

RBR signs Vettel for 2009

Thursday, 17 July 2008 13:21

Red Bull Racing has confirmed that it has signed Sebastian Vettel to partner Mark Webber in its 2009 driver line-up.
A vacancy opened up at the Milton Keynes-based squad following David Coulthard's decision to retire at the end of this season, and Vettel has been widely tipped for promotion from Red Bull's 'B' team Toro Rosso.
However there has also been speculation that RBR was trying to entice double world champion Fernando Alonso away from Renault, but the Spaniard remains non-committal about his plans for next year and has been linked to a move to Ferrari in 2010.
Team principal Christian Horner said he was confident that, despite Vettel's youth and relative inexperience, the 21-year-old German was the right choice.
"We are delighted that Sebastian will be joining us next year," said Horner.
"With David Coulthard announcing his retirement as a Formula 1 driver a fortnight ago at the British Grand Prix, after careful consideration, it seemed natural to announce his replacement here at Sebastian's home race in Hockenheim.
"As he was already part of the Red Bull family, choosing Sebastian as Mark Webber's team-mate was not a difficult decision.

Fernando Alonso News and Updates

Posted: 26 Jul 2013 10:04 PM PDT

Fernando Alonso topped the timesheets on his return to Renault today at Jerez lapping the Spanish circuit a tenth clear of countryman Pedro de la Rosa. It was an impressive return to the team for Alonso as he put in 70 laps with a best time of 1:19.503s.

It was a busy day for the McLaren Mercedes team with de la Rosa putting in 111 laps in his MP4-23 while Kovalainen sixth fastest, completed 130 laps in the new machine.

Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa were third and fifth fastest respectively for Ferrari with Nico Rosberg running well in his FW29 with the fourth fastest time.

Sebastian Vettel and Sebastien Bourdais proved closely matched for Toro Rosso Ferrari with the seventh and eighth fastest times while Mark Webber was ninth best in the Red Bull Renault.

Kazuke Nakajima rounded out the top ten in his Williams Toyota ahead of Timo Glock in the leading Toyota TF108 and Giancarlo Fisichella in the Force India Ferrari. Kamui Kobayashi brought up the bottom of the timesheets in the second Toyota while Super Aguri Honda did not run after problems encountered yesterday.
Renault continued its preparations for 2008 today with Fernando Alonso taking over driving responsibilities from Nelson Piquet.

It was an important day as it was Alonso's first appearance in Renault colours since being confirmed as a 2008 race driver in December.

Arriving at the Jerez circuit yesterday evening, the Spaniard spoke to the engineers to understand how the first day of the programme had gone, and to prepare for his two days work with the team.

His first day behind the wheel gave the Spaniard the opportunity to drive a car in accordance with the 2008 electronic regulations, and most significantly without traction control. It was also a good opportunity to reacclimatise to the team with which he has worked for six years in the past.

At the end of the session, having covered 70 laps, the overall result was an encouraging first day as Alonso topped the timesheet with a best lap of 1:19.503s.

Fernando Alonso
"The result of my first day in the car is encouraging. I could not wait to drive again, but at the same time I was a bit tentative. I quickly settled back in to the team and everything went well. We made good progress throughout the day, but there is a lot still to do. I had to adapt at first to the car and get used to driving the car without traction control, but I am convinced that that soon I will be used to this and will not remember what is was like to drive with traction control."
