Posted: 26 Jul 2013 12:39 PM PDT I had a thought that Vodafone being one of largest telecom enterprise will be providing nice services, at least in the state capital. But from the beining i am having problem with vodafone's frequent call drops. Their high call rates would be bearable if the call drops get minimal. May any one suggest me service provider with reasonable competive call rate (without any RC) at Delhi ? |

ACT Broadband Bangalore Reviews Posted: 26 Jul 2013 07:35 AM PDT Hello Readers, My name is Vivek Sinha Anurag and i am going to post some "great" work shown by Act Broadband. I applied for ACT Broadband 5 Mbps plan [its having cap value of 35GB after that speed will reduce to 256 kbps] by calling their customer care on 16th Aug 2011. I was surprised to see their lightening fast response as the representative came to my doorstep the very next day and on 17th Aug 2011 Mr Ashitt O.S. collected the money and documents and told me that withing 5 days i will get my connection and i even got sms confirmation that my request no is 142263. Now the real story started. Even after 6 days no one ever bothered to check my request so i called customer care [ 080-42840000] to remind them and i was told that i will get it withing next 2 days. I waited for next 2 days and called them again. I was surprised to learn a new technical term from them that they are "Uploading network" hence its taking time and soon i will get my connection. Since my work was getting affected because of their delay i applied for a BSNL connection too. Now today is 5th September and i am still waiting for the connection and to my surprise i got the BSNL broadband last week. I tried escalating this matter and asked the customer care for any high level contact and they said that i need to mail helpdesk@acttv.in. I emailed them but i got no response. Please note some points regarding ACT broadband before applying ACT broadband 1. They dont have nodal officer/appellate authority [against TRAI rules and i have already escalated this matter to TRAI officials with the help of pgportal.gov.in] 2. They have a customer base of 2500 users in bangalore and they are not able to manage even this small number. 3. They DO NOT PROVIDE STATIC IP [even if they claim to do so] 4. Their customer care service is useless. All you will losse is your balance by talking to them 5. They can "Upload network" [You can imagine the understanding capability of their technicians] 6. They are fast in collecting money but lazy in delivering service Final conclusion: To be on safe side stay away from them else you will suffer like me. Morning shows the day and even before using their service i am suffering. Don't know what will happen when i get the connection and i face any problem that time. |
Posted: 26 Jul 2013 07:35 AM PDT I wanted to start a new experience thread simply to discuss MTNL VDSL.
SNR margins (SNRM)
Higher you sync rate, lower the SNRM will be. Lower the SNRM, lower the connection reliability. Lower reliability means frequent disconnections. Hence ISP's have a setting in DSLAM to artificially increase SNRM value for a particular phone line. Hence you sync at lower rate and line automagically becomes stable.
Attenuation may not be that important after all. It reduces sync speeds over a distance but is not an indicator of connection reliability. (You can roughly calculate your line length from it. Do it here) Apply for VDSL connection only if you are within half km. Otherwise you will get ADSL like sync rates. I will update this entry with some of our findings. Since VDSL is somewhat new to India, this thread can help some early adopters.
Currently the speeds are decent for fast servers. But single streams are slow due to a bottleneck somewhere.

Posted: 26 Jul 2013 07:29 AM PDT Hi guys, im new to this forum
been using airtel brodband since last 9 years. Till i remember i have always been using airtel 2mbps unlimited plan until i went abroad to study. I was one of the first few customers to get 2mbps unlimited like 5-6 years back. So anyway now im back, There is no unlimited speeds. wtf? im furious. So the closest and best plans looks like 8mbps/175 gb. ( 3 years back i opted for 8mbps for 50gb and finished it in like 10 days. bill came to 19k, i refused to pay and we negotiated to 3500. ) So are there anyone good software for to watch how much im downloading? suggest even paid ones which i could torrent it out.
Also im open to moving away to other companies if they provide 4mbps+ unlimited speeds. Could you suggest some?
edit - im in Mumbai |
Posted: 26 Jul 2013 07:22 AM PDT Hi, I know nothing about computer networking, but I have got a few questions and I hope that someone experienced here on this very forum will be happy to provide answers. Thanks. I have two pcs both running Fedora 18 32 bit OS. One is a laptop while other is a desktop. I want to set up a network between these 2 pcs so that I can do the following. 1. Transfer files between them. I am not interested in connecting these 2 pcs to internet using a router etc as people often do. My interest is only in creating a network between 2 of my pcs. What do I need for that in terms of hardware and how do I go about setting up a network between them? Thanks. |
Bangalore HSR Layout Broadband Tragedy Posted: 26 Jul 2013 06:49 AM PDT I have been staying in Bangalore's HSR layout since the last 6 years. I was staying in Sector-2 for two years where I was using Tata Indicom Broadband. Then I moved to an apartment where we had airtel broadband, for two years. Now I have moved to a sector-3, near the HSR Club in HSR Layout and my hunt for a new broadband connection has been an utter tragedy. I first went to airtel, who, within 3 days, told me that there is no feasibility for connection in the area. I then, with a lot of hopes, went to the telephone exchange where I was told that there is no feasibility for connection in the HSR Layout area as BBMP has not allowed BSNL to dig up the area for laying new cables. Next I went to Tata Indicom, who took 10 days to tell me that there is no technical feasibility in the area to provide a new connection. I am left completely baffled at this. I am staying in a prime location in HSR Layout only to find that there is no way I can get broadband? I am left with very few options now. For now, I am using an USB dongle (Reliance Netconnect). There are advertisement bills stick on electric poles for Tikona Broadband and TTN broadband. I have googled about Tikona and TTN and my perception is that they are a waste of money and time. The only option left is to go for the latest and overpriced Airtel LTE 4G broadband. Equipment for it alone costs Rs.8000 and I am not in a mood to spend that much amount (Airtel representative who sells LTE told me that it's the stuff for people who own Audi and Benz). Can someone here please suggest me something? I use moderate downloading (Maybe 10-12 GB per month?) and I have always had broadband. i don't know what to do as i am going to stay in this new house for at least a year. Please advice! |

Pathetic experience of porting to Idea Posted: 26 Jul 2013 05:28 AM PDT I took two corporate connection to portout from Vodafone to Idea as my building was having coverage problem and after repeated complaint vodafone was not showing any progress on resolving netowkr coverage issue. So I started testing all other network like Airtel, Docomo, Aircel and Idea, I was found that Idea had best coverage for my building.
So I completed all formalities to port in to Idea and waited till 7th day and kept checking porting status at mnpindia.in, but even on 7th day I never received any SMS to intimate the time of porting. I tried calling Idea MNP Toll free number almost 10 time through out the day but you will never get customer rep to speak to you, they will first play the stupid music " idea hai .......... etc " and then you will be told that all execs are busy and dial 12345 to speak to Idea customer care, wtf how can new customer who dont have idea connection can dial 12345.
And then at 11.00PM, our both Vodafone SIM started giving SIM registration failed so I inserted Idea SIM, and the horror started now............ Idea SIM also giving registration failed message. I thought, it waste of time and decided to sleep. In the morning, SIM were active but now I was unable to make any call or receive call. When I was dialing any number even their customer care, I was getting that you dont have this service available, contact customer care and when I tried to dial from other number to these number, "services to the number are on hold."
Here again, I tried to contact the customer care by checking the Idea web site, after trying for multiple times, some how I got connected to customer care but these morons have no idea about the MNP. They kept telling the process to port out, I spoke to almost 10 different people but every body was telling me some thing or other thing but they were not able to understand my problem. The most pathetic thing was these people cant speak English and I cant understand Telugu, one hour gone and my patience was running thin.
Then I decided to speak to guy who sits in my office to know what the hell is going on... I went to the office and asked for him, guy was not available and had to wait for him. Somehow I met after lunch and told the entire ordeal, he asked two questions only, do you have bars on your phone and have you dialed "59059" for self address verification?
and I was like what the helllllllllllllllllllll....................... why have you not written this on your MNP Kit or on your web site that you need to dial 59059 for self verification to activate the POST PAID number even after they have done physical verification of my residence and office. I was literally out of control for that minute and kept shouting on him, That idea guy said sorry for many times but end of story is that it took only 2 minutes for both number to activate but these morons could have listed the process on thier web site or MNP kit but I was unable to locate any such any where.
After 90 days, I will make sure to go back to Vodafone if they improve the signals as they promised ................ now I understand why Idea has been always trading below 150 Rs for last 5 years. Companies like this will never grow, and we can see the Airtel now as well who is also loosing on prices. Just having good infrastructure and good advertisement cant keep you profitable but you need to serve your customer well also. |
Tata Sky DTH migrating to MPEG4; Will exchange MPEG2 STBs free of cost! Posted: 26 Jul 2013 05:19 AM PDT We are replacing close to 5-6 million MPEG-2 SD STBs at no cost to consumers over the next year. All of this is coming in from internal accruals.
But you need to wait for one more year to see many new channels
We have been adding channels in a phased manner; the process will now be accelerated with the MPEG-4 STB. By June-July next year we should be able to revise our channel offerings to consumers,
