World’s Largest Champagne Bottle Brings in the New Year.

Posted: 09 Jan 2011 10:52 PM PST

When Paris Hilton threw a bottle of 0,000 champagne all over a dance floor, we could say 'typical'. This New Year's top champagne story is the offer of the 30L Armand de Brignac 'Midas' champagne bottle for a staggering 0,000 at Las Vegas' prime party zone, XS at the Encore. The bottle was bought a night later at UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez's after party, UFC 125 – the flash news however is that no one knows who the buyer is! Two strong men were employed to carry the 80-pound bottle over to the high roller's table. The event featured some big shots like Gilbert Melendez, Urijah Faber, Jake Shields and Bruce Buffer but it needn't necessarily be any of them. This can't be Paris either because there is nothing 'secret' about her retail extravaganza.

It's no wonder then that TravelsinTaste heard the world's largest bottle of champagne, a 30L vessel of Armand de Brignac, sold for 0,000 to one high rolling guest at XS. UFC announcer Bruce Buffer interrupted the party to announce the purchase to the club, which erupted in excitement. The XS team delivered the 80+ lbs. bottle to the table while on-lookers stared and snapped photos. The bottle arrived at XS on New Year's Eve and the team put a challenge up to its guests, saying the buyer would get to perform the countdown to midnight, but the bottle sold to an anonymous guest in celebration of the New Year, kicking the nightclub off to one excessive start in 2011!

Auction Highlight: Duesenberg Model J

Posted: 09 Jan 2011 10:16 PM PST

29 Duesenberg J Derham DV 08 BC a03 Auction Highlight: Duesenberg Model JThis Model J is scheduled to cross the auction block at the upcoming ‘Automobiles of Arizona’ auction presented by RM Auctions. It is one of only two short-wheelbase Model J Phaetons ever built by the coachbuilder Derham. Derham started out, as did many, building coaches for carriages. After the First World War, and the death of the father, a dispute broke out amongst the remaining brothers. One left to start his own company. The other two were able to overcome the dispute and actually became quite noteworthy, even more so than before the war had begun. Just as with concept car designers throughout the years, the Derham brothers realized they would achieve greater success building only a few models of coaches. In itself, this makes any Derham built car extremely rare.

The design of the 2136 chassis is nothing short of perfection and elegance. However, the car, itself, has gone through quite a lot in its history. The car was sold in 1930 to Charles Hooper Crosby of Piedmont, California. From that moment on, 2136 experienced quite the celebrity life. The car had many famous owners, or, passengers. Though only a distant relation, Bing Crosby had ridden in the car. Bruce Kellog, of Hollywood, had, at one point in time, owned it. This wouldn’t be the last time Hollywood came beckoning for the car.

Porsche’s show car en route to Cobo Hall – Click above to watch after the jump

Automakers typically try to keep prying eyes away from the show cars that they wheel into convention centers for major auto shows. Porsche, however, made a video of the process and posted it online.

With only hours to go until the German automaker marks its return to the Detroit Auto Show after a four-year absence, speculation has been running wild as to what Porsche has in store for us. Earlier reports pointed towards a racing car based on the 918 Spyder concept from Geneva, then Stuttgart announced it was bringing a concept car.

From watching the video after the jump, it seems both could be right. The camouflaged shell seems to blend elements of the 918 with the tail of the all-conquering 956, and has the precise effect of revving up our anticipation even more. Whatever it is, we’ll be finding out very shortly, 6:30AM EST to be exact. But in the meantime, we invite you to check out the footage after the jump.
