Baldwin-Motion SS427 Phase III Chevelle

Posted: 08 Dec 2010 10:22 PM PST

69 Chevy Baldwin Motion Chevelle DV 08 AI 01 Baldwin Motion SS427 Phase III ChevelleArguably the most menacing and flamboyant muscle cars ever built arose from a partnership between Baldwin Chevrolet and a speed shop call Motion Performance. Joel Rose, who created Motion Performance, was a consistent AHRA and NHRA Modified Production national record holder. These Baldwin-Motion cars were built only to customer order. When the most extreme Phase III Level of modification was ordered, the new owner was given a written money-back quarter-mile performance warranty.

Surviving Baldwin-Motion Phase III cars are exceedingly rare. This 1969 Chevelle was ordered together with a Phase III Camaro by Roberto Schneider, son-in-law of the Governor of Chihuahua, Mexico, in November of 1968. Heavily optioned with both performance upgrades and regular production options, the price was ,000. After completion and delivery, both cars were held in storage in New York while Governor Oscar Flores Sanchez formerly petitioned the President of Mexico, Gustavo Diaz Ordaz, to secure permits for entry of both cars into Mexico.

Ford Kuga

A source within Ford Motor Company has reportedly revealed that a near-production crossover concept will be heading to the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. When this concept vehicle takes its production shape, it will serve as the replacement for the venerable Ford Escape and Kuga crossovers.

Based off of the 2012 Focus‘ platform, the new Escape/Kuga is expected to go into production in the second half of 2012 and be sold as a 2013 model in the United States. At this time, it is unclear as to whether or not Ford will keep both the Escape and Kuga names in the vehicles’ respective markets. The automaker’s “One Ford” global product strategy would call for a single name for vehicles sold in different regions, and the Blue Oval team will surely face a similar problem with the redesigned Fusion and Mondeo sedans in the near term.

We’ll have the full scoop direct from the Cobo Hall in January, so stay tuned.
