Does Cadillac need a Mini-fighter? Posted: 01 Dec 2010 10:45 PM PST Filed under: Concept Cars, Europe, Hatchback, Cadillac, Rumormill Cadillac ULC – Click above for high-res image gallery According to Autocar, Cadillac may have a burning desire to lock horns with Mini. The site quotes designer Niki Smart as saying that the time is right for The Wreath and Crest to build a model akin to the company’s Urban Luxury Concept that we saw at this month’s LA Auto Show. His reasoning? The company needs metal that’s more appealing to European buyers than what’s available in the current lineup. That means a heavier focus on small, hatchback designs that still retain the premium Cadillac aesthetic. Smart seems to think that translates into a Mini Cooper fighter. With its scissor doors and 78 mpg hybrid drivetrain, the Urban Luxury Concept isn’t any closer to production than the now-iconic Sixteen Concept of years past. Even so, Smart told Autocar that GM’s Advanced Design Studio has looked into ways to make the vehicle production ready, funky doors and all. While we aren’t exactly wild about the design of the ULC, the thought of a flingable Cadillac with a V on its hatch is certainly a notion worth mulling. Posted: 01 Dec 2010 09:15 PM PST It has been four years since Peugeot debuted its 908 HDi for competitive racing. There is not much development room left for the 908 without practically redesigning a whole new car. In some respects, the 908 fulfilled its mission to take the fight back to Audi. Audi would come to highly respect the ‘Lion’. But after four years and four attempts, Peugeot has yet to supplant the team of the four rings and their dominance at Le Mans. A new design needed to be made, especially with new regulation changes handed down the pike from the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO). The new 90′X’ is what Peugeot believes to be the necessary answer to finally overcome the stranglehold Audi has had, at least at Le Mans. |

Posted: 01 Dec 2010 05:18 PM PST Futuristic Bugatti Stratos Concept The mesmerizing Buggati Stratos created by the French graphic designer affirms that it is favorable to let go the tech spec considerations to create a gem of a design. Bruno was inspired by the ever so beautiful Buggati Type 57 Atlantic and that inspiration did help him weave magic. Some design cues were also picked up from the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Mille Miglia (for the front end) and Raymond Loewy's locomotive designs. I must say that it for the first time I don't really bother whether the Stratos will ever make the cut or not.

Posted: 01 Dec 2010 03:45 PM PST Bombardier proudly announced it's new Global series aircraft the Global 8000 and 7000 at this years NBAA (National Business Aircraft Association) convention. I was a little disappointed to learn that rather than a clean sheet new aircraft design Bombardier's answer to the challenge from Gulfstream's the G650 was simply a stretch and modernization of the venerable Global Express. Global 8000: The Global 7000 aircraft flies 7,300 nm at Mach 0.85 with 10 passengers* Cabin length – 59.60 ft (18.17 m)
(Between cockpit and aft pressure bulkhead) IAS recommendations: IAS fully recommends the Global series to all clients. This is a fast and comfortable aircraft that meets the needs of those who desire to travel around the globe cost effectively, securely and safely. Bombardier is taking orders for these aircraft now. We recommend that you have a professional team of consultants to help. The options in safety related equipment as well as ascetics could be overwhelming. IAS has a team of maintenance people, pilots and designers to assist in the contract negotiations and "specking out" of the new aircraft. Post by Ivan Klugman |
