Power Issues in the Panel Box Installed Posted: 12 Mar 2014 12:03 PM PDT Hi All, I got ACT 2 months ago. I am the first one who got the connection in my area and I referred two friends too. They installed the panel box in my home and I personally supervised the installation. They clearly explained me that there will be a internal battery in the box and that will support the router when the power goes off. But after sometime the promise went for a toss. Whenever there is a power failure the internet goes down. It is illogical since most of us use Laptops which can support 4 hours of backup. I raised complainants 4 times so far the best part is they will close the issue on their own and I need to call the customer care every time to understand the status of the ticket.
Complaints raises so far : 0001791667,0001812313(missed the other 2 nos)

ACT Broadband - Worst Broadband ever! Not reliable. Posted: 12 Mar 2014 11:56 AM PDT I'm from Bangalore and I've been using ACT Broadband for 5 months. ID 10712212 As the title says, it's the worst connection ever!! Here are the issues I've observed so far:
I've been waiting for Google Fiber to available in Bangalore (I really hope it happens sooner) or at least Airtel comes up fiber broadband. |
New BBG 795 plan from BSNL (Not so great) Posted: 12 Mar 2014 11:40 AM PDT http://chennai.bsnl.co.in/News/BBGULD795.htm
795 - 2 mbps for 8 GB & 512 kbps beyond.
Basically, they have cloned the 900 plan & removed the 350 calls & made it as per existing landline plan. Might turn to be expensive if you dont have a higher range landline plan. If you are in the 900 plan, you are better off continuing perhaps On a second glance, looks like they have brought back the stand alone BB plan of 800, but instead of 1 mbps till 6 GB, they have replaced it with 2 mbps till 8 GB & reduced Rs.5 to that plan.. People on BB Home ULD 800, should probably look to migrate to this one. But yeah, better read the fine print to make sure you are not loosing something.. |

Keeping mobile phone number active while abroad Posted: 12 Mar 2014 10:59 AM PDT I need to stay abroad, sometimes for a few months and would like to keep my prepaid number active during that period. I am currently on Vodafone and was told by the seller that currently we need to make some usage (outgoing call, SMS, data) every 45 days. I also had gone to Airtel and they said that the usage time was 30 days !! Last I heard the TRAI regulation was 90 days.
So any clarifications would help. Will also report back how my experience is with Voda prepaid and whether I am able to keep it "alive". |
Constantly receiving spam SMS from quikr Posted: 12 Mar 2014 10:47 AM PDT I think someone has used my no. to subscribe to Quikr, and now I'm constantly receiving spam SMS from Quikr. I unsubscribed, and that too deducted my talktime balance, but still getting it. Any way to get it removed forever? Like DND registration or anything? |
Thinking of shifting from Airtel, need help with specifics Posted: 12 Mar 2014 10:33 AM PDT Hello guys, I am thinking about moving from Airtel to ACT since ACT has recently started rolling out in my area. Airtel is not bad, their support is pretty good, but their data caps are atrocious. I am grandfathered to a 150 GB plan which they have stopped, and the speed is not too high either (4 mbps).
The connection will be primarily be used for online gaming and heavy downloading from Steam. Anyone has any feedback pings to EU and Singapore servers in games like Dota 2 and CS GO? How about HD streams in Twitch and Yotutube? I will also probably cross the FUP every month, so I also need to know if their data tracking is accurate. Thanks! |

Funny Videos, Images and Jokes Posted: 11 Mar 2014 11:37 PM PDT MS staff There was a pilot flying a small single engine charter plane, with a couple of very important executives on board. He was coming into Seattle airport through thick fog with less than 10m visibility when his instruments went out. So he began circling around looking for landmark. After an hour or so, he starts running pretty low on fuel and the passengers are getting very nervous. Finally, a small opening in the fog appears and he sees a tall building with one guy working alone on the fifth floor. The pilot banks the plane around, rolls down the window and shouts to the guy "Hey! Where am I?" To this, the solitary office worker replies "You're in a plane." The pilot rolls up the window, executes a 275 degree turn and proceeds to execute a perfect blind landing on the runway of the airport 5 miles away. Just as the plane stops, so does the engine as the fuel has run out. The passengers are amazed and one asks how he did it. "Simple" replies the pilot, "I asked the guy in that building a simple question. The answer he gave me was 100 percent correct but absolutely useless, therefore that must be Microsoft's support office and from there the airport is just a while away." __________________________________________________________ Is Windows a virus? Bad experience buying a new Voda SIM with m-Pesa Posted: 11 Mar 2014 11:32 PM PDT Recently bought a new 3G SIM from Vodafone. When asked about the price, they said it would be 215 with 99 talktime. On detailed questioning they said that m-Pesa comes kind of connected with this SIM, so there is no way currently to buy a SIM without it and it has Rs 100 one time activation charge. I did not need m-Pesa, however since I needed the SIM kind of urgently and did not know of another Voda shop nearby I just had to buy that.
Later on chatting with Voda care, they said it is not necessary to get an m-Pesa account with a new SIM. I think I also saw that guy pushing this BS service to others that day and one of his seniors telling him to get more m-Pesa subscribers because his senior had told him so !
So i think it was just a ploy to get 100 from subscribers by lying to them if necessary. It might be a good service for those who need it, but should not be forced on those who don't.
Just wanted to make people more aware of this, so that they don't fall into the same trap. |

Posted: 11 Mar 2014 10:14 PM PDT The time has come for me to change my CPU. So want your suggestions in my budget to the best configuration available. My usage is going to be only browsing, downloading, YouTube and Minecraft. Not more. I don't have much clue about the configuration required for CPUs but I think I'll want about 500GBs of hard drive and decent internals. Also, a 64 bit Windows(7 or 8?). Any suggestions as to the RAM, Motherboard, Processor, HDD, DVD drives, power unit, Cage, Graphics Card, etc? I want this CPU to last me about 6 years, like my current one did. Budget is around 15-20K. Plus if my old CPU sells, I'll add that here too. |
