Posted: 06 Oct 2013 12:22 PM PDT Hi
Around a decade with Airtel (initially touchtel) it was time to move on. Was interested in FTTX (X=B,H...) but with non of the branded names in my area I had no option but to knock the doors of local cable wallah to get reliance / spectranet etc etc in the colony. To my surprise there is a local operator (based out of Bikaji Cama Palace) and presense in quite a few locations in NCR delhi called Geonet (http://www.geocity.co.in/coveredarea.html). Any reviews???
The person claims to run a backbone on fibre, has bandwith from multiple branded ISPs and gives a standard Ethernet connection over PPOE. plug in a normal router and you get a public IP (199.XXX.XXX.XXX Series (he did not tell me the complete series). Lastly with cable lines being broken stolen multiple times a year in my colony he offered me a air grid connectivity. He said it is enough for upto 10mbps line. He also offered something called nano bridge for speeds upto 25mbps
for those still interested: - one time installation charges Rs. 1000 (said he would need to expand around 200 meters and will be installing a switch behind my building) so he is making investment and hence cant discount this, moreover this would be non refundable. - air grid security deposit Rs. 500 (refuntable). would charge installation charges even if I take air grid as he claims airgrid costs him around Rs. 5000 and hence would need installation charges anyhow - monthly charges including tax - Rs. 1K for 1mbps no FUP , Rs 1.1K for 2bmps for 25gb and then 1mbps unlimited. - Other plans include 400kbps Rs. 560 , 512 kbps Rs.650, 8gb 2mbps post which 512kbps for Rs. 750
Since I am on a D-LINK 2750U I would need to buy a normal WIFI router for which he is charge Rs. 1500 and is upfront saying It includes around Rs. 200 as his commission to bring and install the WIFI.
My Questions 1. Any one any review of this ISP. He claims to have 30K customers in and around Delhi 2. Any issues with Latency, Speeds, downtime 3. Any issues anticipated with the following services 3( a ) - VPN : I need to connect to office VPN which is powered by Aventail. 3( b ) - VOIP : I use a lot of Magic Jack, Vonage and likes for calling both from desktop, Apps installed on phone and devices 3( c ) - NAT / Remote initiated sessions - Read hosting gaming servers, adhoc FTP severs, Torrent Downloading 3( d ) - Google Cloud Print - I have 2 printers one is classic (attached to chrome on a machine to allow cloud print) and other directly connects to google cloud. 4. Any person who has idea of Air Grid, Nano Bridge ETC and can comment on these connectivity during rain, winds, etc.... 5. Is 1 mbps enough for watching SD and/or HD streaming videos from Youtube/FB/vimeo etc.
I do not have any particular requirements, I usually consume around 22-24gb a month with normal surfing, app updates on various mobiles, Drop Box however I am not using my internet connection to potential because of post FUP 256kbps fears.
Ps. The ISP has a scheme of Rs. 50 a month discount for 8 months on refer a friend. Incase you plan to take this connection do give my reference. I am waiting for my installation which would happen next Saturday (damn office during weekdays) and I am planning to continue my airtel for another 2 months before I degrade my plan and then another 2-3 months before I disconnect completely (if I am satisfied with this ISP).
---edit--: Just an update, managed to search a thread on this forum itself http://broadbandforum.co/topic/43237-ms-krishna-internet-services-deficiency-in-service/ but this is over 3 years old and hence posting a fresh thread |
Airtel HD+ - Query on using existing hard drive partition Posted: 06 Oct 2013 12:15 PM PDT Hello Techie folks,
Yesterday, I upgraded to Airtel HD+, which allows us to connect to an external usb storage and record programs.
I have a query that I am hoping to get a resolution on this forum.
I have a 1 TB USB external hard drive which is partioned into 4 drives of roughly 250gb each. I plan to use one partition for HD+ STB. However, as soon as I plug in my hard drive to STB and switch it ON, it asks me to 1) Format drive 2) Go back.
I cannot format the drive, because it carries useful data and run beyond 600 gigs, which I cannot back-up somewhere else, even temporararily. I can't just lose the data (believe me, they are not movies).
I just wish that the STB should prompt me with the drive name, once I select it to format. But, I cannot try this, because, if it doesn't prompts me and formats the entire 1 TB drive, I'll be in soup.
So, if any of you have tried to connect a partitioned hard drive to HD+ STB, could you please share your experience?
Is there any way out?
Thanks in advance.

Funny Videos, Images and Jokes Posted: 06 Oct 2013 09:18 AM PDT MS staff There was a pilot flying a small single engine charter plane, with a couple of very important executives on board. He was coming into Seattle airport through thick fog with less than 10m visibility when his instruments went out. So he began circling around looking for landmark. After an hour or so, he starts running pretty low on fuel and the passengers are getting very nervous. Finally, a small opening in the fog appears and he sees a tall building with one guy working alone on the fifth floor. The pilot banks the plane around, rolls down the window and shouts to the guy "Hey! Where am I?" To this, the solitary office worker replies "You're in a plane." The pilot rolls up the window, executes a 275 degree turn and proceeds to execute a perfect blind landing on the runway of the airport 5 miles away. Just as the plane stops, so does the engine as the fuel has run out. The passengers are amazed and one asks how he did it. "Simple" replies the pilot, "I asked the guy in that building a simple question. The answer he gave me was 100 percent correct but absolutely useless, therefore that must be Microsoft's support office and from there the airport is just a while away." __________________________________________________________ Is Windows a virus? Posted: 06 Oct 2013 08:53 AM PDT KBC makers on the hot seat, fined Rs 1 cr New Delhi: Arguably the most successful game show in Indian television Kaun Banega Crorepati was on Thursday adjudged unfair in certain aspects by the National Consumer Commission which imposed a fine of Rs 1 crore on broadcaster Star TV and the sponsor Airtel. "Star Plus TV and Bharti Airtel Limited are held to have violated the provisions of Consumer Protection Act in conducting the 'Har Seat Hot Seat' (HSHS) contest which was in conjunction with the main television show Kaun Banega Crorepati and thereby adopted unfair trade practice," the Commission presided by Justice M B Shah said. The Commission, also comprising members Rajyalakshmi Rao and Anupam Dasgupta, held that in 52 episodes of KBC-3 the telecom company and the channel made a profit of Rs 8.12 crore out of the SMSes sent by viewers to participate in the contest. "Considering the large amount of profit earned and large number of consumers affected, this would be a fit case for imposing punitive damage of Rs 1 crore," it said. Popular TV game show KBC, hosted by Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan between January 22 to April 19, 2007, was sponsored by Airtel. |

Posted: 06 Oct 2013 07:24 AM PDT Hi, I am Anand from Mahadevapura, Bangalore. I am having BSNL Dataone [phone line dead since last 5 months ] and Tataphoton+. As my BSNL line is dead since last 5 months and N number rounds and complaint to BSNL didnt prove positive and I think Tataphoton+ is expensive for a user lke me who does more downloads. So I want to move to some other ISP. I tried calling many ISPs, some are costly and some doesn't have feasibility in my lane/ area I reside in though its available some 100s of meters aways. People from Reliance, Spectranet, Railwire did come to my house to check the feasibility, but Reliance completely denied pulling a line though there junction box is very near compared to other ISPs. Spectranet and Railwire both say the service is available in my area but it will take some more time to pull a line to my street, they have asked few more weeks of time from me, but they are not guaranteeing me about pulling the line. Today one of my friend gave me a pamphlet Ad about company called AirWire. I am hearing the company name for the 1st time. I did a search and found a url which shows the content of Airwire, though the domain name points to justdialboadband.com ( http://www.justdialbroadband.com/ ). I called the number provided in the pamphlet. He too said he will come to my home today evening will check for the feasibility in my street though its present in my locality. I request people to give there review if they have come across this service provider called AirWire. Requesting Admin to create a seperate section for Airwire if Airwire is a Service provider. Regards, Anand |

Posted: 06 Oct 2013 06:40 AM PDT I wonder why there is no thread for this yet!
The show is doing wonderfully well. I personally love it. It's different, no cheap comedy and pure entertainment.
TRP wise it's doing extremely well. Currently at the top in it's category (even above the likes of KBC, Jhalak Dikhla Ja, etc.) and overall 3rd. BTW you can watch the full episodes, trailers, etc. here - http://www.youtube.com/user/colorstv/search?query=comedy+nights Believe me, this show is amazing. You gotta watch this if you don't. |
BSNL Combo 600 Plan Free usage reduced to 750 MB? (August 2013) Posted: 06 Oct 2013 05:57 AM PDT Just logged in to portal to check my usage details for BBG-FN-HOME-600-COMBO-PLUS-MONTHLY_R plan (2.5 GB day usage and night unlimited) and was shocked to see that the free usage instead of showing as 2.5 GB is showing as 750 MB!!! I have used about 970 MB till now so the charged usage is showing as 220 MB! Very shocked and disappointed if BSNL has taken this step which is beyond belief. After waiting for many years, instead of getting a raise in the free usage, it has been reduced to more than one third! If other people are using this plan kindly check your portal account to see if there also it is showing 750 MB? If yes then post here and if it is still 2.5 GB then I suppose there must be some issue with the site. Hope it is still 2.5 GB because 750 MB is a joke! Also people might end up getting huge bills this month if they don't know this. Quite shocked by BSNL's shamelessness as they once again made such a huge change without informing the users!

Airtel offering more non-advertised plans? Posted: 05 Oct 2013 11:01 PM PDT It turns out Airtel CC has been offering non advertised plans off late to customers who are on high end plans and routinely come close to exhausting their FUP limits. I was offered a 2149 (w/o tax) plan for 8mbps and 125 GB FUP.
One of my friends got a 250 GB 8 mbps plan for close to 3K including taxes. |
Unable to use Tata Sky Wifi Remote Posted: 05 Oct 2013 10:56 PM PDT Hi
I've a TataSky HD+ box, and I downloaded the new TataSky App from the AppStore.
The STB is connected to my WiFi router with the TataSky Wifi Dongle. I am unable to use the feature of WiFi remote provided by the TataSky App.
On trying to connect I get an error '0xfd2002 : Wi-Fi signal not available, Please ensure your TataSky + HD set top box and this device are currently connected to the same Wi-Fi router.'
Has anyone in the forum faced the issue? Any solution?
The TataSky helpline is clueless about this... |
Posted: 05 Oct 2013 10:32 PM PDT Making this as a new thread just for the sake of the new Hathway users who are sick of regular browser logins. There are few developers who have been working on these programs and apps. Thanks to them. There are some programs that can be used for automatic authentication.
1. For Desktop/Laptop - Auto Hathway Authentication
2. For android devices - Auto Hathway Authentication and Hathway Login
Auto Hathway Authentication program is free software where as Hathway login app is a trail version for first 5 logins through your android device and then you have to purchase it for Rs. 100 or so to upgrade it to full version.
All credits goes to these developers, I m just spreading the word as it helped me. Ciao!! |
