So apparently in Kolkata, Airtel uses Vodafone's towers for 3G.
The problem with that for me is the fact that I need to manually scan each time to select either 'AirTel' or 'Vodafone IN' in order to switch between 2G and 3G (and sometimes even 'IND-AIRTEL'), and unless I do this, the phone stays perpetually in either of the two modes, going into "Emergency calls only" if I leave it on 3G and wander into non-3G territory. Is there anyone else with this problem (or a solution to it)?

I have been a BSNL customer for some years now , more because its the only ISP in many parts of the south india. Starting from the later half of this year , the BSNL broadband has been slowly degrading.

Every weekend , BSNL networks starts to crumble under the load (weekend influx of users) and not until Tuesday , the network starts to come back to normal.

It been happening for past 2-3 weeks. My SNR are within normal.

Here is current ping to google dns , so inconsistent , and also so high . Usually my pings are 20-40ms , but since its monday and as i said before , pings are horrible.

Routing is bad , and i dont know if bsnl is going to improve its infrastructure.

Today placed a complaint and got calls from local BSNL officer , regional officer . Regional officer had no clue what i was telling , as he kept saying my speed is 512kbps and it will soon be 4mbps coming 1st.. *facepalm* and i kept repeating the issue is with Routing and not with my speeds. I just said to tracert to one ip (valve server ) and look at the route  and see for the lagging / latency node (TATA server)

Did try to contact TATA , but they said to instead contact my upstream provider , ie BSNL

With no other ISP in my place , and not any prvt players coming along the road in any time soon .. Dont know what else to do.

With more dwindling profits , BSNL is in precarious condition and letting it fail will eventually lead to more people being cut off from internet , letting it live will only deteriorate the already present horrible network. Right now in Catch 22 situation .

All i think we can do currently is keep lodging complaint after complaint . But the current mentality of BSNL personnel's is to run an OK network , irrespective of it performs.

Does it lag ? Do you have latency while gaming ? Not able to run a decent 240p youtube video ?

I am doing a story on slow broadband speeds in India. It would be really nice if I could get an insight into the problem faced by broadband consumers probably through a brief interview/interaction with you. I would also like to know if consumers are getting any relief from Trai.

I was looking to buy a tablet and saw a Nexus 7 with Wi-Fi and 3G 2013 version at a great price and sorta impulse bought the item. Bad decision. The item was not shipped for 5 days, the scamsters website was blocked by my antivirus and the guy insisted the tab had a sim slot when infact the Cellular version is yet to be launched.

No real damages done financially as the refund has been initiated by the system, apart from losing a week and a half, I guess.

MORAL : Stay away from new sellers, I know some or what the heck most may be legit, but its not worth it. And if something is too good to be true, it probably is.

I received a SMS few minutes ago saying that 3G bill plan has been activated on my mobile phone. But I didn't request any 3G Bill Plan. When I checked my prepaid balance, its showing 4 Rs only when it should be more than 200 Rs. Never go for Airtel, they are a fraud company who likes to cheat customers, and make money. God knows how many people they are cheating like this. Should I go to consumer court?

Am facing quite an irritating issue over here. I had bought a Samsung Microwave one month back from Croma. Today, the turntable completely broke in two pieces on it's own while food was cooking. This is absolutely horrendous and unacceptable for a newly bought microwave hardly one month old. I needed immediate replacement and the customer care executive promised me with replacement by today itself. But no one called up or showed up to replace the turntable.

Now my questions :-

1. If they don't replace the turntable for free by tomorrow, then who can I escalate the matter to? (FB, twitter handles please? or even email of someone higher up in the management).

2.Is the turntable covered under warranty? In any case, even if it isn't am going to make an issue if I have to pay for repairing a one month old product for no fault of mine.

3. Has anybody faced a similar situation before? Please share if you have any knowledge or idea regarding this.

I applied for airtel broadband a month ago. And within 2 days i got my connection installed and activated. I got the Beetel router for the first time. And for 20 days it didnt connect at internet at all. Whenever technician visited, he made some settings and it started working. But after switch off and on, again its not working.

Then i called up customer care, and they finally decided to replace the router and i got Binatone DT850W. Its been 10 days that i got the new router, but wifi is never configured on that. The technician says he will bring the new firmware and will configure. But he has never turned back. And am unable to find any firmware online for model Binatone DT850W.

I dont know how to use wifi now. I am not even sure about to disconnect the airtel connection or not.

If anybody has any better idea or the firmware of this model, please share.

Recently I bought Dlink DSL-2750U modem+router for home use. I want to configure this router but router WAN port accepts RJ11 cable.

And tikona has RJ45 cable.

So anybody can suggest solution for this problem?

Also this router has USB port for connecting internet dongles.

Apparently the gamepad accessory for the Galaxy S4 support devices as large as 6.3 inches. So, the rumor in the market is that Note3 might feature a display as large. lol. 

I think they should have added support for 8" devices so that the recently launched Note 8.0 would have worked with this!

It looks like the DNS server that Airtel configured (204.11.59.10) while doing modem setup is down 

Anyone else facing the same issue? Switching to Google DNS works.

Flipkart is no longer an authorized partner/dealer in India for Nikon Products. So, after 19/07/2013, I don't think it would be a good idea to buy Nikon products from Flipkart since Nikon might refuse warranty or free service to the product. Not sure about products bought before 19/07/2013 though. Another setback for Flipkart it seems.

So a friend is coming back to India from states and considering Nexus device launch is not happening in the next 2-3 days, I am considering ordering a SSD if the price difference between India and USA is significant. Now, from what I have read, SSD technologies have evolved a lot in the recent years and it is recommended to buy a model from a more recent tech as they are more reliable compared to SSDs of older tech. What I want are suggestions for models in 128GB  and 256GB capacities. I do not think I can manage with a 64GB C: though it is doable.

Lalu Prasad, the maverick Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo and former Bihar chief minister, and 44 others has been convicted by a special Central Bureau of India (CBI) court in Ranchi in one of the cases - RC 20 A/96 - of the multi-crore fodder scam on Monday. Lalu has been convicted of corruption, criminal conspiracy and cheating and the sentencing will take place on October 3. The 44 convicts include former Bihar chief minister and Congress leader Jagannath Mishra, six politicians and four Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers.

There were a total of 56 accused in the case. But during the trial, seven accused died, two turned approver, one admitted to the crime and one was discharged. Lalu and Jagannath are accused in a total of five fodder scam cases. Lalu quit as Bihar chief minister on July 25, 1997 when his name figured in the CBI investigations in the scam, which surfaced in 1996. After stepping down, he rather surprising pulled his wife Rabri Devi out of the "chowka" (kitchen) and made her the chief minister and continued to rule through proxy.
