I wanted to start a new experience thread simply to discuss MTNL VDSL.

Some things to consider before/after taking a new VDSL connection

 

SNR margins (SNRM)
Below 9 dB : Poor experience with lots of HEC and CRC errors. Line will disconnect frequently.
9   - 11  dB : Ok but not ideal. Disconnections will be there if some unexpected variance is introduced by rains, humidity in the wire.
12 - 16  dB : Ideal and realistic value. Expect almost no disconnections as the line has more wiggle room for tolerating variances.
17 dB and up : God Mode. Lucky few get this on VDSL synced at 30 mbps and up. So far I have seen various stats and no one has reported this SNRM (That is because VDSL sync rates are always higher)

 

Higher you sync rate, lower the SNRM will be. Lower the SNRM, lower the connection reliability. Lower reliability means frequent disconnections. Hence ISP's have a setting in DSLAM to artificially increase SNRM value for a particular phone line. Hence you sync at lower rate and line automagically becomes stable.

 

Attenuation may not be that important after all. It reduces sync speeds over a distance but is not an indicator of connection reliability. (You can roughly calculate your line length from it. Do it here)

Apply for VDSL connection only if you are within half km. Otherwise you will get ADSL like sync rates.

I will update this entry with some of our findings. Since VDSL is somewhat new to India, this thread can help some early adopters.

 

Currently the speeds are decent for fast servers. But single streams are slow due to a bottleneck somewhere.

My mom have Tata Docomo CDMA (Tata Indicom) in Bangalore/Karnataka.
We don't have any problems with coverage or tariff so far.
We have IDEA, Tata Docomo GSM and Airtel apart from Tata Docomo CDMA.
We have visited many places such Tirupati, Chennai etc in which besides Airtel, Tata Docomo CDMA was only operator which was having coverage.
I would become surprised by seeing Tata Docomo CDMA's coverage as GSM is widespread and there is option of Tower Sharing in CDMA.
I have also not seen any other operator even coming close to call quality when comparing with Tata Docomo CDMA.
May be it could be because of the handset too which is Samsung Metro TV bought several years ago.
The call would very clear and loud.
 
Now i am looking to convert the number to a GSM operator to buy her a good phone.
Can a GSM operator offer the superior call quality and coverage CDMA Technology offers ?
 
Even though the topic i am discussing here might be focused, the answer to my question would have broad meaning.
So, please share your thoughts on this.
 

I have got ftth installed in my home. The problem is when the guy came to activate internet connection I was not at home. He gave me username & pwd.
Username. xxxxxxxx@ftth.bsnl.in
Password. xxxxxxx
Now he said to connect laptop in pppoe mode & enter username & password.

The fibre modem provided is AONT 100c. I have a TP-LINK wireless router & want to connect it to internet.

Could someone please guide me on how to connect to internet?

I received a SMS few minutes ago saying that 3G bill plan has been activated on my mobile phone. But I didn't request any 3G Bill Plan. When I checked my prepaid balance, its showing 4 Rs only when it should be more than 200 Rs. Never go for Airtel, they are a fraud company who likes to cheat customers, and make money. God knows how many people they are cheating like this. Should I go to consumer court?

SC gave this landmark verdict, by giving an option to voters to reject a candidate. SC said its a democratic right of an individual to opt for 'none of the above', if they think that, none of the candidates are worth voting.

 

I think if more than half the voters opt for 'none of the above', there should be re-election. What are your thoughts on this verdict of SC?

Hello, I have new bsnl broadband connection and i opted for 1425 plan (4MBPs) , but i get only 0.45 MBPS and download is even worse at 25-30 kbps.The bsnl guys connected a brand new wire for my line and my phone line is also very clear.I thought i had a problem in my modem and gone to bsnl exchange to check it, there they connected my modem with my line at their at end and speed was like charm , it showed almost 4 MBPs.They told me to check my latop for virus and lan card. I backed up my data and formatted my system and installed  kaspersky in it.But still the problem exists.I am pulling my hair out thinking that what could have happed wrong,i even bought my friends laptop and checked it with my connection,but it also shows same.

I live in Bangalore, central/north location. I was using BSNL for a few years as I never tried to find out any alternative, Airtel was not available in my location. Then I heard about ACT from my sister, so I decided to find out about it. Some people complained that ACT is not too consistent and one can face any downtime anytime, but some said it worked flawlessly. So I contacted them that I am interested in ACT Broadband. They got to my home in a matter of 2 days and installed the connection in 3-4 days time once I had filled the form and submitted the payment for one month. I asked the guy directly, that if there are any sudden downturns in the internet because I cannot tolerate. I was using BSNL, slow and expensive but atleast it barely had any downturns. But the guy said, some areas do have that inconsistency problem but he promised me that my area is perfect and there wont be any problem.

 

Till now, been using for 2 months, barely it may have stopped for a few minutes once or twice and never had any problem. Consistently getting high speeds, I bought 25mbps ACT Indulge plan and I've been getting around 40-50mbps actually. Downloads are running at 4.5-5MB/second. Consistently working without any problems and I am happy I left BSNL internet (4mbps net upto 20gb for 1350). For same price, Im now getting 40-50mbps and 60gb downloads. That is way way more than what BSNL was offering. 

 

 

Make sure you people change your DNS to the fastest google DNS - 1) 8.8.8.8 (2) 8.8.4.4

 

Don't use automatic DNS provided by ISPs. Speeds will improve heavily once you use Google DNS.

 

I think Bangalore users should give it a try but surely find out in the area if the speed is consistent. There is nothing worse than an inconsistent internet, very annoying for users like me who work online.

Since I cannot install somewhere else, what would be the solution?

I installed BSNL BB with Combo ULD 800.

 

AS per plan speed should be max. 1mbps upto 6gb. But i am getting 1.6mbps speed as per speed test (measured on speedtest.net). How it can be possible. Can any 1 answer??????????????????????????????????????????????

 

BSNL has taken 2 month to install Landline but bb installation is very quick (2 days after application).

 

Till now i am satisfied. I am in Vadodara, Gujarat region.

 

You ppl also can share your experience for this plan and BSNL service. 

I heard about this cable network 1 week before in bangalore and even my LCO has taken line for this...Kindly check this

I live in noida and on my way to office saw a tree catching fire in the sector premises itself. To make things worse there was an electric pole adjacent and flames were touching the wire.

EVERYDAY I mean seriously Everyday Net is down and it doesnt even come back till we call customer care. But again after one day the same continues. I am using this plan since Dec 2011. You can see that I have downloaded/Uploaded almost 340GB

Before I was thinking that this is temporary.

 

Until now I had separate plans for landline and broadband on the same number. But in recent months the calls made via landline have become negligible. I was thinking of shifting to a combo plan. What is the procedure for it? Will opting for the combo plan disable the landline plan or will I have to request for that separately?
