Airtel 8 Mbps 30GB ADSL Boradband Plan

Posted: 09 Aug 2013 12:15 PM PDT

Hi there,

I have taken a 8 Mbps with a cap of 30 GB plan from Airtel in New Delhi. They are promising me d/l speed of 8 Mbps. However upload speed is not defined by them anywhere. I get an download speed of 6-7 Mbps and an upload speed of 0.37Kbps. Screen shot attached.

Can someone tell me what should be the proper upload seed on a 8 Mbps download pipe on an Airtel account? I am planing to take them to the consumer court on this, as they don't tell while selling their services that this is what they are giving as in upload and download speeds etc.

Can anyone give me a world standard norms for DSL broadband speed? Appreciate a quick reply.

Regards,

Sanjeev

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Cracked Display

Posted: 09 Aug 2013 08:02 AM PDT

The screen of my Galaxy Nexus cracked today.

Was sitting in the car with the phone on my lap. On getting out, I searched for the phone in the pocket and couldn't find it. Later I saw it lying outside the car, on the concrete. It fell there when I got out of the car. And I identically even stepped on it (that's the moment when it cracked) before figuring it out lying on the ground.
So when I picked my phone, the screen was cracked. I can receive calls and everything works but the display is off and the screen is cracked.

So I want to know that where in Mumbai can I get it repaired? And how much will be the approximate cost?

3g mobile or data card - which one is better?

Posted: 09 Aug 2013 05:18 AM PDT

I am presently using vodafone 3g in my nokia phone. I use the phone as modem in my laptop to use skype frequently.
Whenever I use skype, my phone gets heated up very much. So I called up nokia care and they said it is normal with 3g and it will not affect the phone.

But I think it also affects the phone's longevity and battery life also.

Could you please give me suggestion if it would be better to buy a 3g dongle instead of using the phone as modem?

Get the most out of airtel 3G

Posted: 09 Aug 2013 05:11 AM PDT

Now if you want to download loads of data the Rs.9 for 30 mins or Rs.17 for 45 mins(Maharashtra&Goa) is the best
In 24 hours you can download 50-65gb depending on your area and speed(in my area I get 800kB/s-1MB/s)

Total cost for 24 hours by Rs.9 30mins = 48*9=Rs.432

Total cost for 24 hours by Rs.17 45mins = 32*17=Rs.544

Like me if you watch a movie a day but you have a slow connection and you want to get the movie instantly then in Rs.270 a month (Rs.9 recharge everyday) you can get 41.1987305 GB by average speed of 800kB/s(so you can count the amount of movies)
In Rs.17 for 45 mins you get 61.7980957 GB(recharge everyday for a month) by average speed of 800kB/s at Rs.530

Tikona Broadband User Experiences

Posted: 09 Aug 2013 04:55 AM PDT

Thought I would start another thread for people who have actually used this service to describe their experience.

They have started advertising quite heavily in Bombay and their plans seem pretty decent. Their 600kbps UL plan would be excellent for me.

I really like the way they have bill limits for their limited plans as well. That shows they understand consumer concerns about enormous bills and have designed their plans to allay them.

So how good is their service? Any down time? How quickly do they respond to complaints? Really any information from people who have used Tikona would be appreciated.

How to configure tikona with adsl2+ router (Dlink DSL-2750U)

Posted: 09 Aug 2013 03:50 AM PDT

Hi,

Recently I bought Dlink DSL-2750U modem+router for home use. I want to configure this router but router WAN port accepts RJ11 cable.

And tikona has RJ45 cable.

So anybody can suggest solution for this problem?

Also this router has USB port for connecting internet dongles.

Thanks,
Amit Mande

Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos hands-on (video)

Posted Image

Welcome the Galaxy Grand Duos (and Grand, a single-SIM version), a 5-inch WVGA device that will likely see most of its time in emerging markets. Underneath the back cover sits a pair of micro-SIM slots -- one on each side of the 2,100mAh removable battery -- and a microSD that's capable of up to 64GB external storage. For anyone who needs more than the included 8GB memory, this will come in handy. Near the top you'll see the 8MP rear-facing camera, LED flash and external speaker.

btw... a commentator raised a valid point on the engadget article... people might criticize this model for having a shitty resolution but it is a great device for people with poor vision like old people. :P

MARD T-Shirts from Myntra

http://techwhack.co/farhan-akhtar-chooses-myntracom-spread-awareness-mard-campaign-rape-discrimination-44211/

In an effort to support and further strengthen Farhan Akhtar's social cause MARD (Men Against Rape and Discrimination), Myntra.com today announced the exclusive launch of MARD T-shirts on their website. This being a non-profitable campaign, the t-shirts are priced at a manufacturing cost of Rs. 199 only and are available for both men and women.

The increasing incidents of sexual violence and brutality against women in particular are a serious cause of worry for the entire country. Post the Delhi rape incident, Farhan channeled his anger in the form of a poem called 'What is this country that I live in'. The poem garnered tremendous reactions. Amongst the sea of calls Farhan received, an idea was born with Tarun Chauhan, creative director of JWT and Atul Kasbekar of Bling. The trio came together and created a platform called MARD.

MS staff

There was a pilot flying a small single engine charter plane, with a couple of very important executives on board. He was coming into Seattle airport through thick fog with less than 10m visibility when his instruments went out. So he began circling around looking for landmark. After an hour or so, he starts running pretty low on fuel and the passengers are getting very nervous. Finally, a small opening in the fog appears and he sees a tall building with one guy working alone on the fifth floor. The pilot banks the plane around, rolls down the window and shouts to the guy "Hey! Where am I?" To this, the solitary office worker replies "You're in a plane." The pilot rolls up the window, executes a 275 degree turn and proceeds to execute a perfect blind landing on the runway of the airport 5 miles away. Just as the plane stops, so does the engine as the fuel has run out.

The passengers are amazed and one asks how he did it. "Simple" replies the pilot, "I asked the guy in that building a simple question. The answer he gave me was 100 percent correct but absolutely useless, therefore that must be Microsoft's support office and from there the airport is just a while away."

Is Windows a virus?

No, Windows is not a virus. Here's what viruses do:
They replicate quickly Okay, Windows does that

Viruses use up valuable system resources, slowing down the system as they do so okay, Windows does that

Viruses will, from time to time, trash your hard disk Okay, Windows does that, too

Viruses are usually carried, unknown to the user, along with valuable programs and systems Sigh... Windows does that, too

Viruses will occasionally make the user suspect their system is too slow (see 2) and the user will buy new hardware Yup, that's with Windows, too

Until now it seems Windows is a virus but there are fundamental differences: Viruses are well supported by their authors, are running on most systems, their program code is fast, compact and efficient and they tend to become more sophisticated as they mature

So, Windows is *not* a virus

Bsnl Evdo Prithvi Ue100 with TP-Link MR3020 Review

Posted: 09 Aug 2013 02:16 AM PDT

Hi, everyone.

I had purchased a BSNL EVDO connection about an year ago. The modem i provided was Prithvi UE100 and i am happy with the purchase. I live in Bangalore near Hennur Ring Road.
I am currently using the Prepaid 750 Unlimited plan.

I also have another desktop and a laptop a phone and recently acquired a tablet (Nexus 7). My father's idea was to discontinue with the Evdo and take a permanent broadband connection, but the broadband did not give any Unlimited plan without FUP so i was reluctant to switch to Broadband.

So , the only way was to buy a router which has the availability to share the internet from the usb modem through wifi. The idea was simple. There were a number of routers (Lava, Hame, Asus ,D link Tp link and couple of other chinese brands.)to choose from, but was not sure if any one was compatible my usb modem.
So i wrote to all the companies customer care. The replies started coming that it does not support the dongle.

I searched online and found that many other people also also in a similar situation as i am. TP LINK was the only company which assured me a refund if the router failed to work with the modem. (MODEL-TP Link MR3020). I finally got the device form flipkart for about 1400.

Link-

Contents-
Router
Ethernet Cable
USB Power Adapter
A usb cable
Cd resource
A quickstart Guide.

There are 4 LED indicatore Power, WIfi Internet status and Lan connection, a WPS/Reset button.

The first thing that came to mind when opening this box is they sure did try to take a leaf from Apple's packaging book. The main box slides out from the printed cover presenting the router to you in a padded cushion. Underneath that you find the all the bits and pieces. The second thing I noticed was how incredibly short the USB cable was. If you intend to plug this into a wall socket your options for positioning it will be severly limited. I'll assume then the main idea was to power it from one of the machines connecting to it.

I plugged in the BSNL Dongle, connected the lan cable and power it on.

To configure the rourter open any brower on any device an go to 192.168.0.254
The default username and password was admin which can be changed.
there ware a lot of options to tinker with the router. It Supports b/g/n bands in 2.4 GHz

Then to get connected to the internet navigate to the QUICK SETUP, choose 3g/4g only, enter the details according to your requirements, then enter your username and password. LEAVE THE APN FIELD BLANK do not enter anything. Dail number is #777.
hit next enter the network ssid name, configure your security. Nexts the router will prompt you to reboot

Once it is rebooted You will automatically be connecter to the net and the corresponding LED on router will be blinking.

The range of the connection was pertty descent for its size. I got full network on ground floor and the good coverage on the first floor.

If any one is not getting good signals when using with the computer can use this device to place this router at a higher position and connect through WIFI

This router can also be used to connect with the Lan port.

My advice is to upgrade the firmware for the device from the TPlink website so that it resolves any bugs.

I tedted the device with for dongles

HUAWEI E1732( Connecter Automatically without any need to enter details)--Aircel,Airtel,Tata Docomo
Prithvi UE100 (Required username and password)--BSNL
Zte AC8710  (Required username and password)--TATA Indicom( now docomo )
Huawei EC150 (Required username and password)--Reliance

the router worked fine with all these dongles provides the username and password are correct.

Many people may think that speed may wary when the dongle is connected to the computer and router, In my experience there was not much difference in speed.
I actually used to place the router on the 1st floor balcony and browse and get better speeds of about 150~200KBps.

The tp link customer care were brilliant in support and offered me any assistance i needed.

I would recommend this router to any one who wants to share internet with others using any dongle.
Ths router is extremelly portable, and can also be used in car by powering through the car charger port.

Bottom Line: The TP-LINK TL-MR3020 3G/4G Wireless N150 Portable Router is well designed and efficient in what it does. retail is a small price to pay to have a WiFi network when it's either a cellular modem or nothing at all.

Up to 150 Mbps speed
Top-loaded indicator lights
Attractive design

Does Tata Docomo block tethering of 3G connection?

Posted: 09 Aug 2013 02:03 AM PDT

I recently ported my Vodafone connection to Docomo. I have a Nokia Lumia 920, but I realized that I'm unable to use my phone's data connection as a wi-fi hotspot. Other devices can connect to my Lumia 920 when internet sharing is turned on, but the connection just doesn't work on the other devices. But I'm able to browse the internet and download on my phone at 3G speeds without any problems. So I just wanted to know, does Tata Docomo block tethering of its 3G connections? If not, are there any manual seetings I need to enter, to enable internet sharing? Please let me know if ay of you are able to use a mobile Docomo connection as a wi-fi hotspot. If this has ben possible for you, that means there is probably some issue with my phone or settings. Please help me out. Thank you.

Since Nokia Lumia 928 is planned for Verizon US, 925 could be International version of 928.

The specs of the Lumia 925 are expected to be the same as the Lumia 928, with a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset, a 4.5" 720p HD display, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a camera that supposedly will perform excellently in low-light conditions, and of course it will run on Windows Phone
