Mozilla Firefox OS Updates

Posted: 20 Jul 2013 12:52 PM PDT

Mozilla Gains Global Support for a Firefox Mobile OS

The Firefox OS for mobile devices is built on Mozilla's "Boot to Gecko project" which unlocks many of the current limitations of web development on mobile, allowing HTML5 applications to access the underlying capabilities of a phone, previously only available to native applications. Telefonica's Digital unit joined forces with Mozilla earlier this year to take this work and showcase a new phone architecture where every phone feature (calling, messaging, games, etc.) is an HTML5 application.

Due to the optimization of the platform for entry-level smartphones and the removal of unnecessary middleware layers, mobile operators will have the ability to offer richer experiences at a range of price points including at the low end of the smartphone price range, helping to drive adoption across developing markets.

Ashes 2013 (Aus v Eng)

Posted: 20 Jul 2013 11:47 AM PDT

http://www.espncricinfo.com/the-ashes-2013/content/current/story/644797.html

Mickey Arthur has been sacked as Australia's head coach less than three weeks before the start of the Ashes. Cricket Australia is yet to officially announce the decision but the chief executive James Sutherland and general manager of team performance Pat Howard are due to hold a press conference in Bristol on Monday morning (UK time) to confirm the move.

Darren Lehmann, the successful Queensland coach, is considered a leading contender to replace Arthur at short notice. Lehmann is in England having just finished a tour as mentor of the Australia A outfit and has won rave reviews for the tough and somewhat old-school approach he has taken with Queensland since he was appointed in 2011.

But whatever the case, the axing of Arthur has left the Australian camp in a shambles on the eve of the Ashes campaign. The squad was due to meet in Taunton on Monday ahead of their first tour game against Somerset, with some of the players having been part of the Australia A squad, some having been playing in the Champions Trophy and others having been warming up in county cricket.

Surprising move just ahead of the Ashes...

YOU Telecom information needed.

Posted: 20 Jul 2013 11:47 AM PDT

I am planning on getting YOU Telecom in Pune.
Before I go for it I need to know how is their service, speed and downtime in Pune. I also need to know international pings I would get from Pune.

Can the YOU Telecom subscribers here kindly provide me a review of YOU Telecom based on the points I mentioned above?
Also, can you people provide me SpeedTest.net results for servers in London, Singapore, U.S. and Japan.

Thank you.

about MTNL DNS

Posted: 20 Jul 2013 11:27 AM PDT

ok MTNL delhi user  we all have told to use DNS (Primary) 59.179.243.70 and Alternate DNS (Secondary) : 203.94.243.70 for it .. now i tried to check the speed not by some tool but by simple cmd cammands .

though people suggest using google DNS (8.8.8.8) and 8.8.8.4(often dead on mtnl net )  .

if u try pinging them both seperately u will see that both take equal time

Unable to connect to internet through USB tehthering

Posted: 20 Jul 2013 11:21 AM PDT

I am unable to connect to the internet through USB tethering on my Galaxy S Advance I9070. When I enable tethering on my device nothing happens, isn't it supposed to automatically connect, if I have internet enabled on my cell. I searched on some blogs, but this is all they say. I was wondering if I need Samusng Kies to do the trick!

Looking for GPS s/w without Data connection

Posted: 20 Jul 2013 10:12 AM PDT

recently I got a car and was thinking on having an fm transmitter, then I thought why not use GPS with  mp3 player capacity  but they are quite expensive and with  subscription NO way..... then I thought I can use my phone with gps chip as a gps and A MUSIC player at a same time.......

then I thought I might need data connection all the time, which might not be the case when I am running amok on europen highways and jungles across the scandanavia.....

so I was browsing number of options for offline naviagation (using only GPS chip) on board.....

so I am trying no navimii, sygic and google maps together one by one

but here are the flaws

navimii world is FREEE totally, i even downlaoded maps for most of the places I will be in  but when you try to start naviagation it asks for internt connection initially for finding the exact address.... however once set I THINK it turns on its own, yesterday while walking I took it without data connection and it was showing me where I was going but not TOTALLY accurate (at speed of 5 km/h) today morning I tried it in car it was showing the road but navigation was not possible it was just showing me where I was going .....

Sygic : IS NOT FREE it gives 7 day trial and then you have to buy maps for like 50 euros for life time updates and what not and says it can be used offline but dont know.....

google maps : tried it offline today in morning again, it shows where I am and where I am going VERY accurately but the option for searching direction is grayed out when there is no data connection.

so it seems all the navigation s/w needs data connection at some point ....

can any one tell me any s/w which works and GIVES DIRECTION without data AT ALL....

or should I something else with my methods to test these s/w?

 recommend  me something guys....

Tata DOCOMO INTERNET APN does not work most of the times

Posted: 20 Jul 2013 08:36 AM PDT

Hi, since last month I've been using internet booster card on my android mobile with TATA DOCOMO number. When I put the sim first time in the mobile I received three APN settings, one for browsing their portal which is Tata Docomo Dive In, one for MMS and one for all other activities which is Tata Docomo Internet. But most of the time my mobile is not able to connect to the Tata Docomo Internet APN which is for general propose, but some times when it does connects i get good speed and able to access internet normally. But I can connect to the other APN Tata Docomo Dive In without a problem which is for accessing their portal but with Tata Docomo Dive In setting I'm not able to access internet through any apps like facebook, opera mini, maps and etc. I tried calling customer care but it turned out to be no use :( I think Docomo is trying to cheat people by offering cheap net plans which is of no use... Any solutions??? Or anyone else facing such problem?

Unable to use Tata Sky Wifi Remote

Posted: 20 Jul 2013 08:29 AM PDT

Hi

I've a TataSky HD+ box, and I downloaded the new TataSky App from the AppStore.

The STB is connected to my WiFi router with the TataSky Wifi Dongle.

I am unable to use the feature of WiFi remote provided by the TataSky App.

On trying to connect I get an error '0xfd2002 : Wi-Fi signal not available, Please ensure your TataSky + HD set top box and this device are currently connected to the same Wi-Fi router.'

Has anyone in the forum faced the issue? Any solution?

The TataSky helpline is clueless about this...

Finished first season. It reminds me of two shows... First Collar on how it is presented. Mad Men because the character of Harvey Specter is so freaking similar to Don Draper.

The problem is that Specter is like 5% of what Draper is. It just does not feel solid enough. When Draper talks, you listen. When Specter talks, you hope that he would say something that would impress you. Sadly, it does not happen very often.

How to connect 2 Linux pcs

Posted: 20 Jul 2013 05:02 AM PDT

Hi, I know nothing about computer networking, but I have got a few questions and I hope that someone experienced here on this very forum will be happy to provide answers. Thanks. I have two pcs both running Fedora 18 32 bit OS. One is a laptop while other is a desktop. I want to set up a network between these 2 pcs so that I can do the following. 1. Transfer files between them. I am not interested in connecting these 2 pcs to internet using a router etc as people often do. My interest is only in creating a network between 2 of my pcs. What do I need for that in terms of hardware and how do I go about setting up a network between them? Thanks.

New bill gives woman share in ex-husband’s inherited property

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/New-bill-gives-woman-share-in-ex-husbands-inherited-property/articleshow/21128781.cms?

A wife will have a share in her husband's inherited or inheritable marital property on divorce, though the exact quantum of the compensation has been left to the discretion of the judge, according to a legislation that was cleared by the Union Cabinet on Wednesday.

These were part of the recommendations of the GoM on Marriage Laws Amendment Bill which will now be amended suitably before being brought to Parliament during the monsoon session, beginning August 5.

So what many men were afraid of,is going to be official very soon.

Beam Not working on Vista

Posted: 20 Jul 2013 04:26 AM PDT

All of a sudden since last two days I am having trouble connecting to beam through my Vista 64-bit machine. It was all working until they upgraded the speed to 4 MBPS automatically.

Whenever I complain the beam technician comes home and says issue with your laptop since the same connection is working for Win 7. I formatted my machine and re-installed the OS but still the same issue exists, anyone else having the same problem??

Any suggestions are really appreciated.

Thanks,

6 months advance paid but no connection yet!

Posted: 20 Jul 2013 02:30 AM PDT

I had referred Act Broadband to my relative and as per my advice they have applied for the broadband connection. They were told feasibility for their area was there. They opted for a 6 months advance payment of Rs. 6,732 under the 999 unlimited 15mbps plan. The payment for Rs. 6,732 was made on 13th June 2013 by cash and received the receipt for the same. The A/c No is 316422 and it is in the name of Sarala M B. Since then they haven't got the connection till date and I have been trying to follow up with the customer care guys but all the follow up has gone in vein. Every time I explain the situation they say we have escalated it and u will receive a call from the concerned department shortly, which by the way has never happened till date. After this bitter experience they have applied for a refund which also has not happened. Act has shifted the junction box onto their property. After the box was shifted onto their property the guy who installed the junction box said he dint have the required tools to setup a new connection and hence he said he would come the next day and give the connection. Its been close to 15-20 days since. He or nobody has ever turned up till date to do the needful.

Tikona Broadband User Experiences

Posted: 20 Jul 2013 02:00 AM PDT

Thought I would start another thread for people who have actually used this service to describe their experience.

They have started advertising quite heavily in Bombay and their plans seem pretty decent. Their 600kbps UL plan would be excellent for me.

I really like the way they have bill limits for their limited plans as well. That shows they understand consumer concerns about enormous bills and have designed their plans to allay them.

So how good is their service? Any down time? How quickly do they respond to complaints? Really any information from people who have used Tikona would be appreciated.

Tata SKY+ New DVR STB split wide open (The inside with photos :)

Posted: 20 Jul 2013 12:47 AM PDT

Well its a sturday and I didnt really have anything else today , woke up at 6am and there was no electricity , so I decided it was time to use the new TATA SKY + DVR STB in a diffrent way .

So I decided to open it up to see what they have hidden inside , what kinda upgrade we can try ourselfs to get more recording time , can we transffer the recorded videos to a PC ....and guys the answers were all positive!!!

Opening the Tata sky STB is one of the easiest experiments I have ever done (this may vary from person to person , opening your STB up causes your warranty to be void , so please do this at your own risk - this is not my responsibility nor is it the forums , but all I can say is its very hard to do something wrong and mess it up ) .

Opened up the 5 screws of the STB , one on each side and 3 at the back of the stb , this causes the upper lid of the STB to slide off , so once the screws are removed just gently slide the top of the STB open.

The good thing is its a regular SATA Desktop (not laptop) HDD.
It Can easily be replaced with another HDD say a 500 GB increasing your recording capacity by 3.5 times :).

To see if this is possible connected this HDD to my PC :
Vola.... The file format is FAT 32 !!! so what you would ideally need to do is
Buy a new SATA - Desktop HDD - create one big partition and format it in FAT 32 and then connect it to the STB and it should simply work (I havent tried this yet , but will do it next week , but i dont have any doubts it will just work).

The good thing is in case you have recorded something important and you need to transffer to the PC you can do it this way (since the file system is FAT 32!!

Screen shots of the HDD connected to my PC :

http://img366.imageshack.us/img366/575/wd1zd9.jpg

http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/9205/wd2yn6.jpg

After all this o just put back everything to gether , and switch on the STB and well everything just worked like nothing happened :)
Feedback appriciated!

Posted: 19 Jul 2013 10:44 PM PDT

Earlier i had plan of 2mbps till 30GB then 256kbps for 1399.Now i have opted for 8mbps plan till 15GB and then 512kbps.They are giving me same 2mbps speed and saying we cant give that 30GB plan again what to do .Though i am happy with 512kbps after speed. But dont know they will give that speed(512kbps) after 15GB.why are they giving only 2mbps speed.they dont want to listen. I said they if I opted for 50mbps speed they said i will get 6.1mbps(something) speed that is reduced 1/8 .what to say for this reduced logic. should i contact some senior.
