Airtel New 1mbps Plan Hyderabad  Posted: 19 Apr 2012 12:00 PM PDT Cannot deny that. But I personally believe that all sorts of broadband must expand in India be it for high end user or low end user. We might be high end users but most people might not be able to spend a couple of thousand bucks on an internet connection and such people need low end plans. Having said that, Beam is catering to both high end and low end users as their plans start with a measly Rs.400 or so I suppose. Beam is managing everything on their own. But other ISPs also need to stand up and make broadband affordable and accessible for all kinds of users be it heavy or light user. Only then will the broadband penetration rate improve significantly in India. We have one of the worst broadband or for that matter internet penetration rate in the entire world. And a lot of people do not use a proper broadband as they cannot or do not want to pay a high rental every month for their connection. So, ISPs also need to target those customers like beam is doing. |

IPL broadcaster still has unsold airtime Posted: 19 Apr 2012 11:06 AM PDT Today I read in the newspaper that currently SET MAX has more than 50% empty slots for advertisements. They have purchased rights to broadcast Indian Premier League for 10 years at the cost of Rs. 8700 crore. In 2008 to 2011 IPLs, the empty slots were in between 10 to 15% but it is more than 50% this time. In first DLF Indian Premier League, SET MAX had earned Rs. 400 crore, in second 495 crore, third 650 crore and in fourth Indian Premier League of 2011, SET MAX had earned 1000 crore rupees. There was speculation of Rs. 1400 crore income from advertisements in 2012 DLF Indian Premier League but according to current statistics, they will have hard time earning even Rs 500 crore. So current speculations suggest that SET MAX will earn Rs. 3100 crore in first five years of Indian Premier League and they have to earn Rs. 5600 crore in rest of five IPLs just to match their investment. In 2011, they were charging Rs. 8 lakh for 10 seconds advertisement. Due to low interest from advertisers, they went down to Rs. 5 lakh for 10 seconds advertisement but still 60% slots were empty even in their first match of Chennai Super Kings vs MI. Future of Indian Premier League is in danger because there are various reports which suggest that DLF is not in mood to renew another five contract with Indian Premier League. DLF is title sponsor of Indian Premier League and their contract ends in current 2012. They purchased the five years rights in Rs. 200 crore but decreasing popularity, another plans of investments & nobody in media or fans bothering it to call as the "DLF" Indian Premier League becoming majors factors for their deteriorating interest. Plus number of audiences is going straight downhill (30%) especially in afternoon matches. Previously Bollywood filmmaker (leading banners) used to fear releasing their movies during Indian Premier League but this year more than 12 films are going to be released. One of the movie, Housefull 2 has gone super hit. Success of Indian Premier League is dependent majorly on teenagers & youngsters but they haven't shown much excitement in Indian Premier League 2012. |
