The religion of Tom Cruise and John Travolta — Scientology — is the subject of an FBI probe. The FBI investigation has to do with human trafficking allegations leveled against Scientology. Scientologists who have managed to escape the cult have talked about being detained against their will and forced to work for slave wages. Scientology camp in the desertFormer Scientologists trying to get out were interviewed by agents in 2009, which started the FBI human trafficking investigation of Scientology. The St. Petersburg Times first published the story two years ago, when a Scientology compound was found in the California desert near Los Angeles. Hazing and hours of forced labor for hardly were reportedly regular practices in the compound. Screenwriter Paul Haggis' profile revealed the FBI investigation of Scientology on Feb. 7 in the New Yorker. In 2009, Haggis left the Church of Scientology because of what the Times showed was human trafficking and because of the cult’s support of California‘s anti-gay-marriage Proposition 8. Scientology labor helped Tom CruiseIt was shown in the Times and New Yorker that there have been escapees from of the Scientology desert compound who were forced to return. Having children is something women in the compounds were told not to do, and there have been allegations of forced abortions. Former Scientologists accused church leader David Miscavige of living lavishly on the church’s dime while workers in the compound were paid a week. Miscavige forced a worker to customize motorcycles for Tom Cruise. This fact did not deter 36 tribal leaders from publicly accusing Queen Rania, wife of King Abdullah II, of corruption, reports the Washington Post. Queen Rania, an international celebrity who has championed the cause of maintaining a productive dialogue between warring factions in the Middle East, has yet to respond publicly to the allegations. Leaders want Queen Rania to return landIn a joint statement issued by the 36 tribal leaders, a call is made to right what they consider a public wrong:
Queen Rania has garnered a great deal of fame for her humanitarian work, but not all of the tribes of Jordan – which make up about 40 percent of the population – have been pleased by the queen’s activism. Specifically, there have been grumblings of royal decadence and an overly lavish lifestyle.
