The Kia KV7 Concept isn’t only a concept. At the Detroit Auto Show this week, Michael Sprague, Kia’s vice president of marketing, told Autoblog “We tend to use auto shows to presage what will be coming,” and referenced the Kia Kue Concept from 2007 revealing the brand’s design intent as precursor to the Sportage, then the Kia Koup Concept in 2008 and Soul Concepts in 2009 leading to their respective production versions.

The question is what we might see on the retail floor; certainly not the lounge-like seating, the full-length LED dash, or the gill-like LED headlights. Sprague tells AB, “With the KV7 what we see coming eventually is materials on the vehicle that we’d like to see incorporated. Or getting a Kia that’s Wi-Fi enabled, it’s just a question of how soon.” Could this hint at a successor to Kia’s aging Sedona/Carnival minivan?

Either way, it’s likely that the brand’s hilarious Hamstars won’t be selling whatever the KV7 turns into. As to how much longer the furry rappers can keep it moving in the Soul’s ad campaign, Sprague admits “We might have another one in us.” Otherwise, the marketing push is that “we’re going to market more sporty as Hyundai goes more premium,” and the brand’s creative like the Sweet Dreams ad stresses “making rational things fun.”

Gold Vending Machine Debuts in Las Vegas

Posted: 13 Jan 2011 06:18 PM PST

The Golden Nugget hotel in downtown Las Vegas is living up to its name with the installation of an ATM that dispenses gold instead of cash. Visitors are now able to buy gold coins and 24-karat "bars" weighing from 1 gram to 1 ounce at the new Gold to Go machine. Prices automatically adjust every 10 minutes to reflect actual market value. The one ounce coin, at the moment, goes for about ,400.

Golden Nugget owners believe a gold vending machine is actually a perfect fit for the casino. They already house the largest gold nugget in the world. The first Gold To Go machine debuted in Florida just a few months ago. Operators say it's so popular it has to be refilled about every three days. The machine only accepts cash and is gold plated, bolted to the ground and virtually impossible to move.

HYUNDAI CURB CROSSOVER CONCEPT DEBUTS AT DETROIT AUTO SHOW

Posted: 13 Jan 2011 02:37 PM PST

2011 Hyundai Curb Crossover Concept 1 HYUNDAI CURB CROSSOVER CONCEPT DEBUTS AT DETROIT AUTO SHOWHyundai California Design Center and Hyundai Motor America presented the world debut of the Hyundai Curb concept vehicle during a press conference at the Detroit International Auto Show today. Curb is a compact ?rban Activity Vehicle (?AV) for the next generation of Hyundai buyers. Curb is also a test bed for future Hyundai Blue Link? and vehicle connectivity technology.

The inspiration for Curb came from the need to evolve Hyundai’s ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ design language for younger buyers. Hyundai designers wanted to create a vehicle loaded with technology that was at home in an urban environment with potholes and densely packed nightclubs on the streets. The vehicle needed to secure the advanced Blue Link and connectivity features against impact and shock. From these ideas, the ?technology rugged’ design direction for Curb was formed.
