Palmer Johnson PJ 170 #2 June 2011 Launch Posted: 16 Dec 2010 10:56 PM PST On July 13th, 2010 Palmer Johnson launched the first of three PJ170’s, the largest Sportyacht builds. "This significant launch certainly cements Palmer Johnson's Sportyacht concept by passing the 50 metre benchmark and further confirms the appeal of the Sportyacht genre," said company President Mike Kelsey of the PJ 170 #1 earlier this year, this PJ 170 #2 continues the trend. The company is also building two 210' Sportyachts for delivery next year along with a 135' and the 82M PJ World. The PJ 170 #2 is a 52.2m (170ft) motor yacht currently under construction at Palmer Johnson to a design by Nuvolari Lenard. Being built in aluminium to Lloyds class and MCA compliant, this superyacht offers expansive accommodation for up to 12 guests in five staterooms plus nine crew in five cabins. Features include a foredeck swimming pool and gyro stabilisers for hull efficiency, while twin 2565hp MTU engines will give her a cruising range of over 2,500 miles at 12 knots. PJ 170 #2 is scheduled for June 2011, allowing her new owners a full summer of cruising. Asking million. |
Detroit Preview: GMC Sierra All Terrain HD concept is ready for off-road action Posted: 16 Dec 2010 10:20 PM PST Filed under: Concept Cars, Detroit Auto Show, Truck, GM, GMC, Off-Road GMC Sierra All Terrain HD concept – Click above for high-res image gallery If you think the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor is too hot yet the Dodge Ram Power Wagon is too cold, General Motors‘ latest concept might strike you as “just right.” This, the GMC Sierra All Terrain HD concept, looks to bridge the gap between the two hardcore pickups from GM’s crosstown rivals, while still offering top-notch levels of power, refinement and technology. The four-door 2011 Sierra HD underpins the All Terrain concept, and power comes from The General’s 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V8. A six-speed automatic sends the 397 horsepower and 765 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels. Versus a normal Sierra HD, ground clearance has been increased by about three inches, width has been bumped up to 73 inches (four more than normal) and the whole package rides on 20-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in 35-inch BFGoodrich KM2 mud terrain tires. Off-road performance is enhanced with the addition of Fox off-road shocks (just like the Ford Raptor). Inside, GM has fitted the All Terrain concept with a Denali-spec interior with additional satin metal finishes and a leather-wrapped dash. What’s more, a next-generation stereo system with an 80-gigabyte hard drive has been fitted inside this concept, and we’ll soon be seeing this new system across the full GM product range. Currently, there are no plans to create a production version of the All Terrain HD concept, though word is that if a road-ready version of this ultra-tough Sierra is produced, it probably wouldn’t come off of a GM line – it would likely be crafted with the assistance of a second-tier firm (think: Roush). We’ll be seeing the All Terrain concept in person at the Detroit Auto Show in just a few weeks, but for now, click through our high-res image gallery below, or follow the jump for the official release. Toyota will offer first plug-in hybrid cars Posted: 16 Dec 2010 09:25 PM PST To save the environment, more and more auto makers are moving into making hybrid-electric vehicles the type of vehicles that can feed on bio oil and use batteries alternatively, which the main objective is to improve fuel efficiency. Now, Toyota, as the leader of green auto makers, has announced that it’d build its first plug-in hybrid car by 2010. The plug-in hybrid is different from the current hybrid models, which allows recharging of the batteries from any ordinary power outlet. Conventional hybrids are recharged by power generated by the wheels. The plug-in hybrid vehicle that is to be developed by Toyota, will run on lithium-ion batteries, instead of the nickel-metal hydride batteries that power the Prius and other Toyota models. The plug-in hybrid and lithium-ion powered vehicles are said to be capable of achieving fuel efficiency of 99.9 miles-per-gallon in electric mode. But it can only go up to 7 miles on pure battery power. Toyota will unveil the models that will have plug-in hybrid versions available at the 2009 Detroit auto show. The new lithium-ion-equipped vehicles will first be made available to Toyota’s commercial customers â€" such as government agencies and corporations. The announcement of Toyota is seen as a strong competitor to GM, which has also announced that they’d produce their own plug-ins around the same time. |
