Proton builds itself a Mitsubishi Evolution Posted: 03 Dec 2010 08:29 PM PST Filed under: Concept Cars, Sedan, Mitsubishi, Misc. Auto Shows Proton Jebat Concept – Click above for image gallery The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is such a good car, it seems that Malaysian automaker Proton decided it ought to offer a version of its own. Sort of. While the company’s Jebat Concept, which was just shown off at the Kuala Lumpur Motor Show, is styled to look like the Evolution, it’s actually powered by the 237-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged mill used in the slightly less potent Ralliart model. Nobody seems to know at the moment if the Jebat Concept has any shot at production, but its existence isn’t all that surprising considering that Proton just recently launched the Inspira, itself an almost exact copy of the standard Mitsubishi Lancer. In any case, it’s clearly differentiated from its siblings by virtue of its matte black front and rear fascias and side sills, along with a Proton-specific grille. See for yourself in the image gallery below. Posted: 03 Dec 2010 06:57 PM PST The 1961-1963 Thunderbirds were known as the ‘Bullet Bird.’ This series was followed by another Thunderbird, and it too had another nickname – ‘Flair Bird’ or ‘Jet Bird.’ It had the same basic structure and dimensions as before, exterior styling was completely revised with a lengthened hood and a shortened formal roofline. Innovations for the new Thunderbird line were delayed, only reaching production in 1965. Disc brakes in the front were not standard until 1965, and the sequential rear turn signals were delayed due to approval delays in certain states. A number of engine options were available, offering several performance levels. |

Posted: 03 Dec 2010 03:00 PM PST Futuristic Bugatti Stratos Concept The mesmerizing Buggati Stratos created by the French graphic designer affirms that it is favorable to let go the tech spec considerations to create a gem of a design. Bruno was inspired by the ever so beautiful Buggati Type 57 Atlantic and that inspiration did help him weave magic. Some design cues were also picked up from the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Mille Miglia (for the front end) and Raymond Loewy's locomotive designs. I must say that it for the first time I don't really bother whether the Stratos will ever make the cut or not.

Does Cadillac need a Mini-fighter? Posted: 03 Dec 2010 02:28 PM PST Filed under: Concept Cars, Europe, Hatchback, Cadillac, Rumormill Cadillac ULC – Click above for high-res image gallery According to Autocar, Cadillac may have a burning desire to lock horns with Mini. The site quotes designer Niki Smart as saying that the time is right for The Wreath and Crest to build a model akin to the company’s Urban Luxury Concept that we saw at this month’s LA Auto Show. His reasoning? The company needs metal that’s more appealing to European buyers than what’s available in the current lineup. That means a heavier focus on small, hatchback designs that still retain the premium Cadillac aesthetic. Smart seems to think that translates into a Mini Cooper fighter. With its scissor doors and 78 mpg hybrid drivetrain, the Urban Luxury Concept isn’t any closer to production than the now-iconic Sixteen Concept of years past. Even so, Smart told Autocar that GM’s Advanced Design Studio has looked into ways to make the vehicle production ready, funky doors and all. While we aren’t exactly wild about the design of the ULC, the thought of a flingable Cadillac with a V on its hatch is certainly a notion worth mulling.
