[Planning] Internet distribution options for semi urban towns. Posted: 19 Dec 2010 11:00 AM PST Quote: License: Yes, sometimes companies will offer license sharing, though it depends on the circumstances as to whether or not it's required and/or whether the company will do it, so would probably need to find out more about exactly what you want to do - become something like a cablewala or a full-fledged ISP? Quote: Cable-based DOCSIS 3 and EoC both currently top out at around 300mbit/s whichever way you go. EoC needs repeaters every 300m or so. DOCSIS needs them less depending on whether the network if Hybrid Fiber-Coax or all Coax. Wifi can be used if only broadband is served. However the terrain is uneven, LOS will be an issue. For hotspot based the infrastructure cost will rise. Quote: Feasibility: This will depend on 4 main things: transit costs from the nearest PoP to you depending on which ISP you purchase from, the cost of your bandwidth (while these can be provided by the same ISP, they are usually charged separately), how much needs to be added to your infrastructure or how much it's going to cost you to build the requisite infrastructure - and finally, how much you can realistically charge - are people going to be able to afford it? Not many companies take interest in these areas and all major companies require me to have an ISP license. Paying 15 lac fees + bank + performance guarantees for class B license will not suit the scenario as I will be working in the least profit ratio and do not have a strong finance source, its more like self-financed. Even planning on sharing the cost of CPE. Quote: I see you've got 300-800 users in each town, but what sort of scale are we talking about in total and over what kind of area? How many villages, how much distance between them? Do you know an approximate cost of laying the required infrastructure (whether wired or wireless) to connect up each village? What options are available for connecting each village? What infrastructure, if any, do you have access to now? If you end up having to build from scratch, why not do FTTx? Fiber isn't that much more expensive than Coax - the main cost of building a network comes from civil works. What type of service do you intend to provide to the end users: are we talking 256k-512k or something decent? (there's no reason you can't take our approach and deliver the highest possible speeds, charging only for data + whatever the lines end up costing you per subscriber). The current expectations of people are for a 512kbps connection that stays online for 29 days a month. Quote: We don't yet have any specific plans for any cities in Jharkand, we do have plans for a few towns within 200-300km of Deoghar, and probably any route from for example Kolkata to Patna or Kolkata to Varanasi or Lucknow would end up going even closer than that, which would probably allow us to splice off a bit and send it in that direction - depending on what we end up procuring for transit in that part of the country, of course. What do you suggest? |

Aircel is cheating its customers. Posted: 19 Dec 2010 10:51 AM PST Hi, Aircel is cheating its customers. I am an Aircel prepaid customer with mobile #919700042581. On 18/12/2010 when I checked my balance I got a pop up from Aircel informing that if I recharge by dialing *122*1400# from my mobile I will get unlimited internet for 3 days by paying 14 rupees from my balance. I recharged as informed assuming that Aircel will offer me services as promised, but after browsing for a couple of hours I realized that all my balance was deducted by Aircel. When I try to register a complaint the Aircel Agent informs me that the offer was revised as to a limit of 250 mb per recharge on 05/12/2010, but this was not informed to the customers and that I can't register my complaint for my balance refund. Aircel is still cheating the customers by reflecting wrong information even now in its messages when you check your balance by dialing *125# as if you recharge with 14 rupees by dialing *122*1400# you will get unlimited internet for 3 days on your mobile. If the terms and conditions were revised why is Aircel still cheating its innocent customers by reflecting misleading information on its response messages and why was this not communicate to the customers.
