The Offtopic Thread

Posted: 06 May 2014 07:20 AM PDT

Hi friends i am jjvj.. .. Admin has given me 2 days leave .. and said this...
so i have to come with new id.. which is TEMPORARY.
You have been banned for the following reason:
admin sees everything...
Date the ban will be lifted: 1st November 2007, 10:30 PM

just have a look at that REASON.... they say they see everything.. what the hell were u doing when the fake ids were roaming..

i think u had mentioned the reason as i posted in 1 thread that " admin wont see anything" and i have valid point for that too.. as you were not checking who is posting what and also there were double threads on same topics........

this is disgusting and most bad part of IBF i have ever faced.. now i am fedup with the ADMIN not with any members ....... this is the bad thing i had seen upto now.... every other member can use any languages and insult , fight and still get away but i have been stopped from posting for 2 days........

but now i will show my messages..

I have opted out of IBF for the following reason:
admin sees everything... but is waste, just bans one who does not anything bad.
Date the ban will be lifted: 1st November 2007, 10:30 PM
Date of my return....... NEVER to IBF

good bye and enjoy with fakes...... you dont deserve useful posts..

i am not working here for any salary or so.. so there is no point of me being banned and wait for time to complete and then start posting...... I was just sharing info and having fun along with others..

SC makes it clear: Govt will have to ban Porn

Posted: 06 May 2014 07:19 AM PDT

The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to various ministries of the central government on a PIL seeking modification of internet laws to make watching pornography a non-bailable offence.

A bench of Chief Justice Altamas Kabir and Justices A R Dave and Vikramjit Sen issued notice on Kamlesh Vaswani's petition saying existing laws had failed to prohibit proliferation of internet pornography and alleged that it was affecting the younger generation and resulting in increasing sexual assaults on women.

Appearing for the petitioner, senior advocate M N Krishnamani said the government urgently needed to take pro-active steps to block all pornographic websites as they were affecting the "peace of mind, health and wellness, happiness and human potential".

A virus with the potential to kill up to half the world's population has been made in a lab. Now academics and bioterrorism experts are arguing over whether to publish the recipe, and whether the research should have been done in the first place.

Researchers in Fouchier's team used ferrets – test animals which closely mimic the human response to influenza – and transmitted H5N1 from one to another to make it more adaptable to new hosts. After 10 generations, the virus had mutated to become airborne, which means ferrets became ill from merely being near other diseased animals.

"I can't think of another pathogenic organism that is as scary as this one," Paul Keim, a microbial geneticist who has worked on anthrax for many years, told Science Insider. "I don't think anthrax is scary at all compared to this."

Sony Max 2 - Another Movie channel from Sony

Posted: 06 May 2014 06:52 AM PDT

After Movies OK by STAR and &Pictures by Zee, Sony also planning to launch another movie channel probably named as MAX 2. Also planning to launch 3rd GEC after Sony TV and SAB TV. MSM gets ready to max it with MAX 2

Its good news for movie buffs as Multi Screen Media's (MSM) long awaited plan to launch one more movie channel is rolling along fine. And the unveiling of the new service is likely to be once both the Indian Premier League (IPL) and elections are wrapped up and done. Multi-system operators (MSOs) say they have been approached by the Sony Entertainment Network (led by TheOneAlliance team) to keep aside space on their networks for two channels by May-end- early-June. One of these according to MSOs is the movie channel which has been christened as MAX 2 while the other a GEC has not yet been given a name. The GEC is likely to work as a third flanking GEC to both Sony and SAB. And the management is introducing it to take advantage of the monetisation opportunities digitisation is expected to bring with it.

16th Lok Sabha General Elections of India

Posted: 06 May 2014 06:30 AM PDT

General Elections for electing 16th Loksabha members would happen in 1 year from now. It may even happen within 1 year as well if situation arises like current govt decides to call early elections or looses majority if coalition partners pull off support (which is less likely). So who could it be forming new govt? BJP or Congress? NDA or UPA? Narendra Modi or Rahul Gandhi? Sushma Swaraj or Manmohan Singh? Arun Jaitley or P. Chidambaram? What impact Arvind Kejriwal would have on these elections? And finally will any 3rd front succeed in forming govt at Centre?

Need Router with 3G USB Dongle Support. Budget: Around 2K

Posted: 06 May 2014 05:19 AM PDT

tl;dr at the bottom.

Hi fellow members. This is my first post on this forum, regarding a query that I need to resolve. Hope I will find help here.

In an attempt to find myself the best broadband, I have decided to try every conceivable options available in the market. First I had MTNL landline broadband connection. But t used to remain down for hours if not days on a bad day. Then I disconnected it after 3 yrs of connection for Pacenet. But I guess Pacenet is not able to bear heavy load of my usage! :P Now I have decided to try MTNL's 3G connection. The plan of 1650 with unlimited 3G internet seems luring.

So I have a dongle: Huawei E1731. Photo: http://i7.minus.com/iAiFCL1Q4DEwP.jpg (airtel 3G written over it).
I have bought an MTNL 3G sim. Now I just need a router with USB support, that I can use to create a wifi hotspot in my house. House is not big so a mid range router will work.

I was trying to find myself a good router around 2K, but Flipkart is of no help. My preference of brand doesn't include TP-Link since there is no service center in Delhi and to RMA TP-Link product I need to courier it to Mumbai, which I believe is a hassle. (Have a product, that I am unable to RMA).

TL;DR:

I need a good (non TP-Link) router with 3G dongle support (Huawei E1731) to create Wifi hotspot for a small house that can bear the load of running 24x7 in Indian summers.

Thanks in advance!

Specs of unannounced Motorola Moto E have leaked on Spanish website Xataka include, a 4.3-inch screen with a unknown resolution (probably less than or equal to 720p), 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of built-in memory, a 1900 mAh battery and a 5 megapixel rear camera. It is not known whether the smartphone will feature a MicroSD card slot, but the lack of one will surely be a deal breaker for most consumers as 4GB of internal memory is very low for modern smartphones. On the software side, the smartphone is reported to be running Android 4.4.2 out of the box unlike the Moto G which was launched with Android 4.3.

The leaked 124.8 x 64.8 x 6.2mm physical measures of the Moto E are truly impressive. The handset will be significantly more elegant than both the Moto G (11.6mm thick) and the Moto X (10.4mm thick). The Moto E is tipped to arrive in the coming weeks on the Mexican wireless carrier Telcel with the model number XT1021. Its price tag is certain to be lower than that of the Moto G.

Connectivity issue - use of Session History data

Posted: 06 May 2014 02:23 AM PDT

All the learned members of the Forum,

I am a subscriber of ADSL Broadband service at my residence land line.

For the last few days , I am facing an interruption in otherwise continuous Internet service .

The ADSL LED on the ADSL modem either becomes completely off or blink
intermittently but never seems to get stabilized for a long time. As per
MTNL lineman the line is functioning properly. The LED do get stablised
of its own at many a times at irregular intervals thus breaking the
continuous availability of the Internet service.

I had observed from the Session History of the account that the sessions are of very short duration i.e. for less than a minute

Many a times it is also observed that although the ADSL LED was stable, no ping to
external DNS server could be possible including the browsing and other
net activity.

Whether session his troy records can be utillised in any manner to establish the connectivity problem and non availability of Internet service , being faced by me. If so, I request the learned members of the Forum to kindly to inform me the manner in which it may be used.

With kindd regards
Rajiv Bhatnagar

MS staff

There was a pilot flying a small single engine charter plane, with a couple of very important executives on board. He was coming into Seattle airport through thick fog with less than 10m visibility when his instruments went out. So he began circling around looking for landmark. After an hour or so, he starts running pretty low on fuel and the passengers are getting very nervous. Finally, a small opening in the fog appears and he sees a tall building with one guy working alone on the fifth floor. The pilot banks the plane around, rolls down the window and shouts to the guy "Hey! Where am I?" To this, the solitary office worker replies "You're in a plane." The pilot rolls up the window, executes a 275 degree turn and proceeds to execute a perfect blind landing on the runway of the airport 5 miles away. Just as the plane stops, so does the engine as the fuel has run out.

The passengers are amazed and one asks how he did it. "Simple" replies the pilot, "I asked the guy in that building a simple question. The answer he gave me was 100 percent correct but absolutely useless, therefore that must be Microsoft's support office and from there the airport is just a while away."

Is Windows a virus?

No, Windows is not a virus. Here's what viruses do:
They replicate quickly Okay, Windows does that

Viruses use up valuable system resources, slowing down the system as they do so okay, Windows does that

Viruses will, from time to time, trash your hard disk Okay, Windows does that, too

Viruses are usually carried, unknown to the user, along with valuable programs and systems Sigh... Windows does that, too

Viruses will occasionally make the user suspect their system is too slow (see 2) and the user will buy new hardware Yup, that's with Windows, too

Until now it seems Windows is a virus but there are fundamental differences: Viruses are well supported by their authors, are running on most systems, their program code is fast, compact and efficient and they tend to become more sophisticated as they mature

So, Windows is *not* a virus

MY ACT experience - Chennai

Posted: 06 May 2014 12:22 AM PDT

Hi,

I registered on this forums just to post my feed back. After years of hopping around and facing demons like airtel, bsnl I felt that I owed a feed back about the new kid in town. ACT. And yes, it is just that - a kid!!

I have been using ACT for 2 months now (I booted airtel after they categorically decided to raise my charges by 300 + VAT after a supposed market survey, damn I hate airtel) and I thought I have experienced all their facets to post a decent and honest feedback.

First for the positives:

1. Promised speeds delivered - for all those people who want to watch a video on YT without having to undergo terrible buffering and for guys who want to see that movie asap, these guys are good for the money. 25 mbps promised, 25 mbps delivered.

2. Installation is a breeze (even though the guys faced a problem with my Linux setup!) and the guys who come to do it are well behaved and professional - I mention this specifically because I definitely cannot say the same for the other ISP blokes.

Now for the annoyances - what you thought they were perfect?!?!?, fat chance!

1. The most prompt thing about ACT is the BILL. Come hell or high water, even if you have sent them a gazillion mails complaining about things the bill will come and you HAVE to pay it. Very impressive.

2. helpdesk@acttv.in - the world's most inactive mail ID. You might get a response from the president of the USA (if you have his email ID!) but not from ACT. And if by the blessings of God you do get it it will read - "regret the inconveneince, your complaint has been forwarded to the relevant department" and it is after waiting for ages you come to realize that the relevant dept is all off vacationing from ACT profits. And how many depts does it take to answer internet related complaints for an ISP? Very mysterious.

3. My complaints about throttled speeds with 5 GB remaining and about restoration of speeds after throttling have not even got the "...regret inconvenince..." message. A very busy ISP who does not have the time for its customers.

4. I still have not been able to solve the mystery behind the horribly dumb data limits. After months of feed back they introduced the 125 GB limit but I just cannot understand why they cannot give a lot more at such speeds. They do provide via fibre and they control number of connections via junctions, so they really cannot have a reason like overuse. I just dont understand this gimmick, why not give more data. I will gladly pay the extra money for more data but hey, not possible. Marketing gurus of ACT will take arms I suppose.

5. Finally - pay and use. You pay for a month and use it for that month - a policy that is not that trust inspiring but hey its ACT policy - well made!!

All in all - the fact that these guys are high speed saves the day. From a support perspective they suck, really suck. Once in you just have to put up with it and given the amount of time and resources it takes to hop from one ISP to another you end up putting up with it. If only they had better support and better plans - they would easily be the best of the choices we have. Sad. Overall, I would recommend it but you would face a lot of frustration and anger - the kind that makes this kind of a post just to rant!

Peace

Ananth

PS : Actually apart from the good samaritan values behind this post, another motive is that I do see some posts being answered by an ACT rep on these forums. My mails are all getting junked - so maybe this post would wake them up!!!

MTNL Broadband is inserting Adphonso powered malware on all customer devices

Posted: 05 May 2014 11:53 PM PDT

I have MTNL ADSL broadband in Delhi. Today I saw this popup on the side when I connected online (I removed my telephone number from the image):

XpK9E7W.jpg

After looking for the inserted code, I discovered that MTNL is inserting iframes inside the webpages!

The popup is being loaded from http://www.adphonso.com/testmtnl.php?CSID=22221504@mtnl

(I changed the telephone number in the URL above) More scrips are inserted from MTNL address 203.94.243.40

The adphonso website belongs to an adversiting company and that is a big problem :(

Are you guys seeing this sort of popups too? If yes, do you think is it safe?

ACT at RA Puram

Hello ACT reps

I reside at Foreshore Estate, in RA Puram. It is located on Santhome High Road (nestled between Mandaveli on the west and Santhome to the east, with very close proximity to Mylapore and Adyar). I've got a BSNL connection now, and I got very good feedback about you guys from a contact in Bangalore.

I'm trying to get a new connection here at my home, but when I called your CC today, they informed me that there's no feasibility in my area. I'm confused as to how this might be possible, since my area lies smack in the middle of the places where your services are presently active.

And the CC rep wasn't very keen on discussing a timeline when connectivity in my are will become 'feasible'.

If you can reply/inbox me an explanation, or better yet provide me a timeline for when connectivity will become available, that'd be great....

Shahrukh up in arms against Robot September 04, 2008Shahrukh Khan had initially planned to produce and act in Shankar’s Robot. But this plan did not take off and the offer finally landed on superstar Rajinikanth. With the film being made in Tamil, the director decided to opt for a name change to get the tax sops announced by the Tamil Nadu government for films with Tamil names. It is now believed that Robot will be rechristened Yenthram.

Meanwhile, Shahrukh’s production house Red Chilies has created a stir in the film industry by registering about nine names that have the word Robot in it. Director Shankar had plans to simultaneously make it in Hindi because Ashwarya Rai-Bachchan plays the female lead. With Shah Rukh’s title registering act Robot in Hindi could suffer a major blow. Wonder what the star is up to!

The War of Amethi!

AAP Claims Kumar Vishwas' Family Being Asked to Leave Amethi | NDTV.com

The district administration cited Election Commission rules to ask the AAP candidate's wife, children and members of his extended family to move out of the constituency by 11 pm as they were not its "registered voters". The AAP took to the social networking site, Twitter, to voice its indignation over the treatment meted out to Mr Vishwas' family by the district authorities.
"Police at residence of @DrKumarVishwas in Amethi. Says will arrest her wife coz she is not a voter of Amethi (sic)," AAP tweeted. "District admin & police asks my wife and sisters to leave Amethi immediately at 11pm. Can they dare to ask the same to Priyanka G & congis? (sic)," Mr Vishwas said on the micro-blogging site.
The matter has now been referred to the Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh. Sources in the Election Commission said that while the rules suggested that the district administration was within its right to ask all those who were not registered voters to leave the boundaries of a constituency in the interest of "free and fair voting", it was eventually left to their discretion to take a call on the eviction of such elements.
