VOIP ( Nettalk) not working on Binatone

Posted: 25 Feb 2014 12:12 PM PST

Has anyone tried using a VoIP phone on the modem-router of Airtel? My Nettalk which worked smoothly with You Broadband's cable modem, doesn't seem to work with Airtel. Anyone tried this?

Thanks

Tikona Broadband User Experiences

Posted: 25 Feb 2014 12:09 PM PST

Thought I would start another thread for people who have actually used this service to describe their experience.

They have started advertising quite heavily in Bombay and their plans seem pretty decent. Their 600kbps UL plan would be excellent for me.

I really like the way they have bill limits for their limited plans as well. That shows they understand consumer concerns about enormous bills and have designed their plans to allay them.

So how good is their service? Any down time? How quickly do they respond to complaints? Really any information from people who have used Tikona would be appreciated.

Condition of MTNL box in your society

Posted: 25 Feb 2014 09:33 AM PST

Guys so frustrated with MTNL that I am starting a thread for MTNL box location in your society. I have uploaded this pic just now after several phone call to MTNL broadband guy, AM, SDO, GM & what not however no action is taken and broaband kepps coming anfd going off. This is the worst condition and water is dripping from top from a air conditioning duck.

I am also going to sent an email with this pic to the mtnl so called babus so that they can see what the hell is going on in my society.

Airtel speed sucks and they have fup but atleast in my society they have a decent box installed with proper wiring. Here you can see the MTNL wiring and the box does not even has a close lid.

If you guys have the same or the worse scenario do share you experience with the pic.

User Review: Samsung Chromebook

Posted: 25 Feb 2014 09:04 AM PST

So, I finally got my hands on the much desired Samsung Chromebook. It is a tiny little package with pretty nice display. Build quality? Typical Samsung. Does not feel solid.

Performance wise, the dual core ARM processor is not very good. It works fine on regular web pages but load a few heavy ones and everything turns into a mess.

I tried surfing the forum while listening to Google Music in another tab. Horrible user experience. Browser literally cried. I guess 2GB RAM does not matter much when the processor is grossly underpowered?

In any case, dad seems to be quite satisfied with it. It boots incredibly fast. Display is better than the previous netbook he had. It's wider so most web pages fit fine on it. Battery life is something I would only find out in the days to come. But should suffice for his needs if Google's 6.5 hours claim is anywhere close to real world figures.

Here are a bunch of random photos. Bad quality. I was just too eager to open it up and start playing with it so used my phone instead of my regular camera.

No Broadband in Ram Nagar South, Madipakkam, Chennai

Posted: 25 Feb 2014 09:03 AM PST

I am currently residing at 10th Street, Ram Nagar South, Madipakkam, Chennai - 600091. Prior to this I was in Adyar and my ISP was Airtel, I had an 8mbps connection with 40gb download limit.

After I change my residence, Airtel confirmed that they cannot provide services here as there is no feasibility, hence I cancelled my connection and since then I have tried with Tata, reliance and BSNL to get a wired broadband connection, but everyone came back saying they too have no feasibility in this place.

I am in a fix now as being a heavy user I actually want a high speed data connection with at least 50gb download limit. I am currently using tata photon plus but hardly getting 0.48 mbps. I don't want to get a Tikona connection as there is so many complain about them.

Through this forum I am requesting help to resolve my situation. Any suggestion is welcomed and appreciated.

Airtel or Nextra

Posted: 25 Feb 2014 08:42 AM PST

Hey guys,

I am from south Delhi thinking to switch to Nextra cuz its more economical then Airtel.

I have been exteremly satisfied with Airtel services so far. Net is amazing. Zero downtime, constant ping.

Can I expect the same from Nextra?

I am currently on Airtel Rapid 80 under 20% discount offered by retention team last month.

I'll call them again at end of this month to discontinue. I'll stick to them if they offer them true unlimited plan with at least bps speed.

Any one aware if they currently have 2 or 4mbps retention plan if so what are there prices?

Thanks!
With atleast 2mbps speed*

Sry for typo

Post your ping result of default gateway, speedtest.net and most important, pingtest.net result.

Posted: 25 Feb 2014 08:37 AM PST

I have observed that tikona official(tikona.services, if I'm not wrong) is on this forum. However, user hasn't visited this forum since last 18 days. Last activity was on 31st Jul, 2012.

I want tikona users to post result of Tikona connectivity at your location. Tikona has a good approach of providing high speed internet but they are unable to provide it because of they're providing internet on free channels. Therefore, they couldn't provide you a much stable connectivity. Tikona has a good infrastructure and high power Access point as I experienced.

I foolishly tried to change the direction of receivers (Nano station2 loco and Ruckus outdoor CPE are used for testing) facing at the face of AP several times from different corners of terrace.
I conclude that during some duration especially early morning and late nigh, I get stable connectivity but some delay is observed in ping time while pinging to default gateway else I get packet loss which we all receive from Tikona.

Why is this happening?
I can say this is all because of interference around the receiver. Again, I'm saying their access point are enough capable to send signal to multiple users but as mgcarley told me in discussion through PM, AP could become busy sometime while handling multiple requests and attending numbers of users. However, its throughput is fine but CPU memory reaches to peak. It is hard for user to determine poor performance is due to congestion at AP or interference around receiver/AP unless user has access of receiver which is not provided by Tikona official and even it's impossible to get into system. Any of receiver(Nanostation2 loco, Ruckus or Gemtech) provided by Tikona is not suitable for dealing with interference at user's site. Gemtech works at some location but it has worse throughput. It goes down very often. I think that's why Tikona has spent money in buying spectrum. It got numbers of customers in Mumbai and Pune. It can be said it is heart of Tikona but it depends on user whether it chooses Tikona or go with any alternative if available unlike me.

There is no solution of interference. It will help in getting stability temporary by shifting channels which is not possible from user side. Yeah, 5Ghz channel helps because of there are less electronics equips are working on that frequency whereas if we talk about 2.4Ghz, First comes wireless router(we all are used with it after laptop becomes easily available), cordless(it doesn't bother much but affects in some cases) and oven and many more.

High power devices make sense in getting stable connectivity but it will never be provided from Tikona. They may be costly for Tikona to afford. Variety of devices will improve performance as I experience personally. Every user has different situation at his place where unique device doesn't work especially it is cheap.

Believe me if you get connected with Tikona AP properly, you will have best taste of pudding. I have never experienced poor speed even if I think, it is evening and there will be unstable speed unless I have above 25% packet loss. In Mum-Pune, there may be different scenario where numbers of users have a single AP and if those are fond of downloading a lot, they may have wide variation in speed as official has mentioned in T/C in technical manner.(They are allowed to increase ratio up to 1:50 for unlimited plans.)

1) Please post snap of ping of default gateway.
2) Speedtest.net result along with the tariff speed under the result.
3) Most important, pingtest.net result.
4) Post the distance of AP from your place, numbers of AP with clear LOS(line of sight) and unclear one also. and direction of AP(I mean face of AP from your place)

I won't ask about your experience or about any rating. I know you and I are fed up with Tikona but for me, I don't have any alternative and I couldn't stop myself from lucrative speed of Tikona. Speedtest.net rating speaks itself calculated as per its automated system.

My result.
1). I get stability very often at late night. I will post the worse one when I have during the day.

Posted Image

2).

Posted Image

3). Why it's important. It gives the line quality test.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Above results seems good but I will post worse one tomorrow when sun rises. It's late night gives good results.
4).

AP = 2 both have clear LOS from my terrace and have not more than 300m distance from my terrace.
One of AP has exact face at my terrace but high tension line behind it bothers a lot. It fluctuate signal strength but it gives me best performance. It gives about 5-15ms from default gateway but I can't connect with it because of high tension lines causes signal drops.
Another one have clear LOS but face of AP is having cross angle because of having AP of another ISP is installed at the same place having distance of 2feet not more. Gives trouble a lot during day. It is the only one I can connect with. It gives me about 15-25ms from default gateway. Other ISP AP interferences a lot results in to packet loss while signal strength doesn't survive.

Don't post any confidential information of yours. No id or request number or no personal email/email interaction or name of any employee.

I need your connection performance. If it worked well, I would send it to appellate authority of Tikona. They may personally contact you through PM only if they are interested to make better.

Tikona is not suitable for online Gaming application or voice-video solution which is first requirement remained unsatisfied.

How is Tikona Broadband in Bangalore?

Posted: 25 Feb 2014 08:11 AM PST

First of all, I don't have any other options for broadband as AirTel has ruled out the feasibility for a connection due to lack of ports in my apartment and ACT BB, who is my current ISP does not have feasibility to transfer my connection to my new apartment.

I am planning to avail Tikona's 4 Mbps, Rs.1,499 plan which has a FUP (ppl say Fair usage but I call it f**k*** usage policy). I wanted to know the feedback of Tikona BB before I jump into the well.

Custom Plans on Airtel Broadband

Posted: 25 Feb 2014 07:58 AM PST

Airtel called me today and said since I'd taken Smartbytes for 12gb last month, they wanted to offer 125 fup plan(80gb now) at the same speed(8mbps) for 50rs extra.

I also heard they are giving 3g at 2g rates in my area these days.

Is airtel on a PR improving spree? Anyone got offers like this?

ACT broadband installation delay

Posted: 25 Feb 2014 06:46 AM PST

I'd applied for a new broadband connection (in Marathahalli, Bangalore) and the documents were collected, along with an initial deposit cheque of Rs 2016, last Saturday (15th Feb). The cable box (or whatever that was) was installed promptly after that, on the following Monday (17th Feb) and I was also told that the connection will be activated within 1-2 days.

But till now I haven't gotten my connection. Customer care, as expected, can't provide any clear answer. Called yesterday & was told "It'll be activated by tomorrow end of the day" which, as you can guess, hasn't happened. While applying for the connection I was repeatedly assured it won't take more than 7 days, at the maximum.

What's worse is that the ACT representative, who collected the documents & the Rs 2016 cheque, is not picking up my calls. I'm getting kinda worried here. If this is how it is to get a connection, how is it gonna be after that !!

Requesting ACT broadband to take a look into the matter and get it sorted ASAP.

Wired Internet Providers in Kandivali West

Posted: 25 Feb 2014 06:36 AM PST

Hi All,

I am new here and I am posting here for the first time. The reason I'm here is because I need some advice on internet providers in the Kandivali (W), Mumbai region. Our current provider is In2Net Cable and I cannot say the internet is reliable. We currently have dynamic IP service 2mbps package for 6 months and are looking for alternatives.

Our biggest gripe with In2Net service is that their dynamic IP through PPPoE changes so frequently (6 hours or less IP Renewal window), makes is very unreliable for long (slow) downloads. Also, we call USA through VOIP and we frequently have issues with VOIP calls dropping because of IP renewal resulting in a different IP.

I use a router because there are multiple devices accessing the internet through WiFi (laptop and android mobile phones) and desktop pc, plus a VOIP phone adapter for USA calling (Linksys PAP2T-NA).

We want to retain wired connectivity because we need to have the router configured for the VOIP Service (which we use to call USA to speak to our relatives).

What are our options? Speed isn't a factor. 2mbps speed is good enough. I need the service to retain the IP for a longer duration even if its dynamic. This connection will be mostly unmonitored as I am also mostly in the USA. As such, my in-laws are doing the calling and I have left this setup for them to frequently call my wife in the (And I would like it to be as simple and painless as possible).

Thanks,

cchhat01

Request for ACT BB in LB Shastri Nagar

Posted: 25 Feb 2014 06:32 AM PST

Hi,

I stay in LB Shastri Nagar, Bangalore - 560017.

Currently there is no ACT BB in this area. A majority of us in this area are forced to use an ISP called Tikona broadband whose service is pathetic !! The only other option is BSNL, again whose service is below standard !

How does one request for ACT BB coverage in our area? Is there a certain number of requests/bookings needed from the residents here ?

Any information regarding this would be appreciated as we are all fed up with the current situation here.

Thanks and Regards,

Reddington will cooperate, but insists that he will speak only to Elizabeth Keen, a rookie FBI profiler. Keen questions Reddington's sudden interest in her, though he claims that Keen is very special. After the FBI brings down a terrorist he provided information on, Reddington reveals that the terrorist is only just the first of many. In the last two decades, he made a list of criminals and terrorists he believes the FBI can't find because they didn't know they exist and that they matter the most. Reddington calls it "The Blacklist".
