my laptop failed on me

Posted: 25 Sep 2013 12:54 PM PDT

didn't find where to put this junk info, using this section.

My main laptop, Compaq CQ42 series, which I use as extended desktop got fried yesterday night.

It was working fine, and all I did was the weekly Ccleaner cleaning, and rebooted,

The reboot didn't went through as mouse still had power, so long pressed power button, didn't worked out

so pulled off the battery,

It never came back.

Dissembled to check and found somehow motherboard went dead.

RAM, HDD, Optical drive everthing is ok, but it won't power ON.

Gave to mother board repairing center today, and he was shocked when e saw I ripped off each of the parts.

he was asking me to bring all parts but I managed and he will be repairing it, hopefully.

It's the only center in my town with "Advanced BGA Machine" something to do with chip level I think.

Have to use netbook till then, but I hate using anything below 14 inch.

Enjoy the operation Laptop pics........

- You can see who's reachable right now on Hangouts. Green icons mean they are, and gray icons mean they aren't.
- It's easier to browse your contacts when starting a new Hangout. From top to bottom you'll now see 'People you Hangout with', 'Suggested People', and 'Other Contacts'.
- Hangout invites are now located above your conversations so they're easier to find.
- Aaaand... you can hide people from the New Hangout screen by pressing on their name for a few seconds and touching 'Hide contact.'

Hopefully this resolves most of the issues people have with it!

Stargate SG-1

Now… This show is definitely not for everyone and as I have already read that a couple of you have tried it and given up on it. I am currently on season 6 and I have enjoyed it so far. It's from the late 90s so it's not really what you would call cutting edge. But I love it for its humor. I have always been a big fan of MacGyver. All characters have their own charms. The chemistry between them is amazing. Especially when you talk about alient characters like Thor. If you need something for the long haul. Something that you want to enjoy between your regular shows… you might want to consider it. It's huge. There are spin-offs. I have not really explored what happens after SG-1. I started with the movie Stargate and then picked up this series. There are 10 seasons. Around 22 episodes each. Could last you several months. Would be totally worth it. I have seen 6 seasons in 2-3 weeks and basically I am going through the same joyride I went through when I saw the entire Doctor Who franchise (from the latest installment starting with Christopher Eccleston as the ninth doctor). Along with the nightmares of course. Instead of daleks, I just see Goa'ulds. lol

Sound, Volume

Posted: 25 Sep 2013 11:11 AM PDT

How to increase volume levels in my PC with Windows 7 operating system?

I had Windows XP installed in my system. I am using a LG desktop pc, Asus mother board and a Logitech head phone. In Windows XP I was getting volumes at desired levels by utilizing sound manager and volume controls option.  Few days ago I have uploaded Windows 7 on my pc. The interface for Sound Manager and Volume Control on this operating system is different than XP. Now I am not getting desired level of volume for audio despite setting the volume units to maximum. Am I missing something? Why am I not getting same volume of sound on Windows 7 as I was getting in XP?

[Urgent] Confused on the BSNL Broadband billing plan..plzz help

Posted: 25 Sep 2013 09:03 AM PDT

MY new BSNL broadband connection is going to be installed tomorrow.I have applied for " HOME BB 650 combo plan " which is unlimited internet usage plan.

Now I am confused how the bill will be calculated... !
I have searched the forum i learnt tht BSNL will charge using PRO RATA basis...
so in that case for 5 days the rental should be like ::

650 / 5 = 130 (+ service tax)

1) now since the plan unlimited so for that will I be getting Unlimited data usage for these 5 days....??
2) the plan is a combo plan so in that case the monthly rent for landline connection is not there but now how r they going to calculate for the landline rent??

3) Apart from the above calculated rent + tax , shall I have to pay anything extra...??

PLZZ help This willl be my 1st time broadband connection from BSNL...!!

Really disappointed with Docomo in Karnataka

Posted: 25 Sep 2013 08:48 AM PDT

I was using a Vodafone connection which was excellent, and ported to Docomo in July 2013 for the sole reason that Vodafone's 3G licence was withdrawn in Karnataka. I wasleft with two options (Airtel and Docomo) which were the only ones having native 3G license in Karnataka. I avoided Airtel because I had used it before, and although Airtel's netwrok is good, they are big time frauds and cheats. I had no idea about Docomo, but since several people told me that Docomo has a pretty good network in Karnataka, I decided to port my number to Docomo.

All was well for a few days, and then the problems started. Docomo's netwrok is fine with respect to normal 2G voice calls, but its pathetic with respect to data. And the customer care too is not at all satisfactory. Let me explain in detail.

1) I have a Nokia Lumia 920 handset. I usually keep my data connection turned off, and only turn it on when required. I have noticed that 9 out of 10 times, I never get the data connection even after turning it on the settings. This is true irrespective of whether I turn on 2G data or 3G data. I have to turn the data connection on and off multiple times, and if I'm lucky, I get the connection after a lot of attempts. I contacted customer care regarding this issue in the beginning of August. He told me to change the access point name from TATA.DOCOMO.INTERNET to TATA.DOCOMO.INTERNETHVC, and this change would resolve my problem. I made this change, but noticed no improvement because the problem still persisted. I called customer care again the next day to tell them that the solution they provided didn't work. To this, the person told me that he has registered a complaint, and I would get a call back within 24 hours to either acknowledge that my issue has been resolved, or to let me know when it will be resolved. That was in the beginning of August, and until today (September 25th), I never got any call from Docomo, and the problem still persists.

2) Second thing is with respect to the language. Although I have clearly set my IVR language as English, I always get connected to the Kannada or Hindi customer care department whenever I choose the option to speak to a customer care representative. They told me that whenever the English department is busy, I get connected to either the Kannada or Hindi department. I specifically told them to change my settings so that I always get connected to the ENglish department, and I don't mind waiting for some time if the lines are busy. The person told me that my issues will be resolved within 24 hours, and after that, I will always get connected to the English department from my number. This was during the second week of August. But until today, the issue hasn't been resolved, and I still get connected to only the Kannada or Hindi departments.

3) Since I was having these issues and wasn't getting any solution by calling customer care, I thought of registering a complaint via the official Tata Docomo website. But for that, I needed to create an acccount and the site never allowed me to crate the account. The problem was that while creating an account, I'm asked to choose a password with a 'special character', but the supported special charaters are never mentioned. I tried passwords with all the special charaters available on my keyboard, but I always got an error which said that my passowrd doesn't contain a special character. This effectively prevents me from ever registering a complaint online.

4) My final issue is with respect to online recharge. The website asks me to enter my number in order to show me the available recharges, but when I enter my number and click 'submit', I always get a message which says 'No topups are currently available for your number'. So to recharge online, i always have to go through the tedious proicess of searching through the available recharges and then selecting the one I require.

If these problems continue, I would have no choice but to port to another operator once I have completed the mnimum duration with Docomo. Since I'm unable to get solution to my probelms in any way, I posted it here so that someone from Docomo might see it and improve their services.

Here are my details, just in case:-

Sorry, i have no alternate number.

ISP options in Vashi, Navi Mumbai

Posted: 25 Sep 2013 07:19 AM PDT

I' ve been using 5 Net till last month. it had good service, but now local ISP SSV D-Vois has stopped providing 5 Net and asked me to shift to their local Net(SSV) which is pathetic. Planning to switch to any ISP with plans of 1-2 Mbps in my area(Sector-4, Vashi)

I play online games like Dota 2 on South East Asian servers(Malaysia) and other EU servers, so I expect a decent ping from ISP. I used 5 Net's Popeye hub which had awesome community and content so a ISP with hub is too good. Also need a decent Youtube streaming for watching tuts.

I stay in Vashi, Navi Mumbai which has monopoly of SSV cables. I have ISP options such as Hathway, You, MTNL

I enquired my cousin who uses MTNL, hes satisfied with service but when i checked pings of MTNL, they were disastrous.

Anybody here who plz suggest ISP or post their feedback of above mentioned ISPs in Vashi so i could make a wise decision.

Price difference between ADSL & Cable

Posted: 25 Sep 2013 06:27 AM PDT

Being a Triband user from the past 10yrs or so, I am sort of contended with it's service. There are rarely any down times & even if there is an issue, the technicians usually rectify it pretty quick.

My issue though is based on the price difference that I've observed between MTNL plans & the corresponding cable line plans.

I use the DSL 999 Unlimited which gives 1MB/s at Rs.1340 per month (that's after adding the various taxes) while my friends using

cable line pay Rs.600-700 for the same! That's not all, they get equal upload speeds & their downloads speeds vary from their planned

speed to sometimes above it as well. Examples would be 24 Online, YOU, SSV, D-VoiS & the most famous 5Net.

So can anyone explain why am I paying nearly double for the same plans? The MTNL people don't even have to lay cables for connection

and the modem is my own as well. Yet the exorbitant cost is pissing me off.

Worst ever broadband service in Pimple Saudagar

Posted: 25 Sep 2013 06:26 AM PDT

This is regarding the worst experience I have with YOU broadband in Pimple Saudagar. I am customer of YOU broadband since more than 1 year and conditions are getting from worse to worst. There was connectivity problem since begining and customer care does not address problem properly. They resolve problem without intimating customer and even after complaining to Nodal officer and Appealate authority nothing seems to happen.

The executives appointed to address issues do not respond to the phone calls when there is a problem and now that I have decided to discontinue with YOU broadband nobody is respnding and customer care executive says that you cannot discontinue in the middle of existing plan.

Please help me with this as soon as possible. My address is

Homenet, THE WORST INTERNET PROVIDER

Posted: 25 Sep 2013 06:11 AM PDT

This is the email I wrote to them. Real bad experience.

To whomsoever it may concern, You have a VERY BAD service. A REALLY BAD service and customer care. I had called up almost 3 weeks ago to get an internet connection and you 'promised' me an internet connection in 3 days, because there is an internet switch on my building terrace and there needs only the wiring to be done. But then the nightmare started, there were rains and lightning that caused downtime for you, fine thats a proper reason and I can understand that. But you guys started acting worse than Shahrukh Khan in Ra.one. When I called, your customer service lady said 'It will be done tomorrow surely'. This same reason went on for 5 days at a stretch. After that the customer care lady talked to the manager and told me that it will be done before 7(on Monday, 23rd September). I waited, and called at about 6:30 and again I had to hear 'It will be done tomorrow'. Called yesterday again(on Tuesday, 24th September) and again you said 'It will be done tomorrow'. Today I called you guys and I had the WORST experience with any ISP. Your customer care lady, I asked when it will be done and she says 'It will be done tomorrow'. I blast out at her saying about my experience with you guys and she says 'Amhi kahi nahi karu shakat' and when I tell that I don't want the connection she says 'Theek aahe' and cuts the call. Is that a bloody way to behave to a customer?

Pretty disappointed by them, make sure you consider before getting their internet service.
