Huwaei Data Card Query

Posted: 28 Aug 2013 12:30 PM PDT

Hi,

I am planning to get a 3G Datacard for Mobile Broadband on the Go for my Dad on his Laptop. Previously We have tried Reliance Netconnect + which was good and now MTS whose speeds have ranged from worst to excellent! Now I see and understand that there are many to choose from and Huwaei are the most preferred one's but my main concern is in case the Card goes bad what to do next? If I go for the unlocked modem's (which are the best as carrier locked devices are something everyone should avoid) most of the times it's a 6 month dealer warranty. I checked Huwaei's official list and found some good modem's as under and they have 1 year warranty with authorised service centre in uttam nagar which is very close to my area in vikaspuri. Now Please people help me in following things:

1) If a buy those unoffical Modems from ebay will I get service or any support from Huwaei Authorised store's? I am willing to pay!
2) I know that official one's have support but does any one have any idea how is the after sales of huwaei?

I know there are really good modem's in the market but My Main concern is after sales or repairs please some one can help me on that or shed light on this topic? From previous posts I know which one to go for but as it would be with my dad I need to know what about official support and after sales. Please help and comment.

(I liked Huwaei E303c and E303C hilink as they are official in india but please pour in your suggestions with good one's and some support in case my bad luck hits me as usual)

Thanks

Dilmeet

Request to @airtel_presence to provide an option to disable SmartBytes redirections

Posted: 28 Aug 2013 11:34 AM PDT

Starting a thread for you to retweet to appeal to Airtel Broadband to provide an option to disable random redirections to SmartBytes page.

Reasons?

1. Almost all users who are getting randomly redirected would probably know about SmartBytes and would do it manually if they are interested in getting a SmartBytes package. Airtel already sends an email when the user crosses 80% and 100% of his usage, that is the proper place to promote this 'scam'.
2. Random redirections are bad for the end user as it breaks the flow of browsing. It can result in data loss for users who are trying to post a comment on a blog or forum. It can lead to incomplete online transactions which can result in major headaches for the user paying for a product or service online.

Is this possible in Indian local trains?

The highest download speed you ever reached

Once at a friend's place (hostel) there was an unsecured wifi network, and I downloaded at almost 1MBps. I would often go to his place to download. But, after 1-2 months the network became secured and so it was the end of delight. So, anyways what is the highest download speed you have ever got?

Placed an order on September 2nd 2012, it was sunday.

According to their shipping conditions the order should be shipped within 7 working days,
so I contacted the customer service to know the status.

Wait time of 10 minutes and the agent would read out what you can see on the website itself,
plus he added the order should be shipped by Sept 11, 2012.

Tracking system doesn't work, by the way this tracking status is for a product that shipped on September 5, 2012.

as I ordered two products, one is shipped while the other, major one is not.

Funny thing was the agent asking for the survey, after he provided me nothing new information and the wait of 10 minutes :D

Please suggest a Laptop table/stand for bed

Posted: 28 Aug 2013 08:26 AM PDT

Hello Everybody

I am looking to buy a Laptop stand/table for using it on bed.

BedMate from TableMate was the closest match, but it is not available in India.

I have currently zeroed in on My Buddy+ from Portronics after reading reviews in flipkart.

Can anybody suggest such an item in their own experience ?

Most of the items available in eBay are cheap Chinese items without any quality or reliability assurance.

Nobody in eBay are offering warranty for such items.

Tata Sky DTH now replacing MPEG2 STBs with MPEG4 STBs for free!

Posted: 28 Aug 2013 08:25 AM PDT

We are replacing close to 5-6 million MPEG-2 SD STBs at no cost to consumers over the next year. All of this is coming in from internal accruals.

But you need to wait for one more year to see many new channels

We have been adding channels in a phased manner; the process will now be accelerated with the MPEG-4 STB. By June-July next year we should be able to revise our channel offerings to consumers,

ACT Broadband Bangalore Reviews

Posted: 28 Aug 2013 04:55 AM PDT

Hello Readers,

My name is Vivek Sinha Anurag and i am going to post some "great" work shown by Act Broadband.

I applied for ACT Broadband 5 Mbps plan [its having cap value of 35GB after that speed will reduce to 256 kbps] by calling their customer care on 16th Aug 2011. I was surprised to see their lightening fast response as the representative came to my doorstep the very next day and on 17th Aug 2011 Mr Ashitt O.S. collected the money and documents and told me that withing 5 days i will get my connection and i even got sms confirmation that my request no is 142263.

Now the real story started. Even after 6 days no one ever bothered to check my request so i called customer care [ 080-42840000] to remind them and i was told that i will get it withing next 2 days. I waited for next 2 days and called them again.

I was surprised to learn a new technical term from them that they are "Uploading network" hence its taking time and soon i will get my connection. Since my work was getting affected because of their delay i applied for a BSNL connection too. Now today is 5th September and i am still waiting for the connection and to my surprise i got the BSNL broadband last week.

I tried escalating this matter and asked the customer care for any high level contact and they said that i need to mail helpdesk@acttv.in. I emailed them but i got no response.

Please note some points regarding ACT broadband before applying ACT broadband
1. They dont have nodal officer/appellate authority [against TRAI rules and i have already escalated this matter to TRAI officials with the help of pgportal.gov.in]
2. They have a customer base of 2500 users in bangalore and they are not able to manage even this small number.
3. They DO NOT PROVIDE STATIC IP [even if they claim to do so]
4. Their customer care service is useless. All you will losse is your balance by talking to them
5. They can "Upload network" [You can imagine the understanding capability of their technicians]
6. They are fast in collecting money but lazy in delivering service

Final conclusion: To be on safe side stay away from them else you will suffer like me. Morning shows the day and even before using their service i am suffering. Don't know what will happen when i get the connection and i face any problem that time.

Airtel Legal team from Delhi troubling calls

Posted: 28 Aug 2013 04:50 AM PDT

Dear Sir/Madam,

I was using Airtel broadband connection (080-42168769) for the past 5 years. Two month back i request for disconnection of my connection (Request number 34938332) same was accepted by airtel and disconnected my connection. As per mail and customer care call final bill was 3,328. Since i had 500 Rs deposit with Airtel, i had detected Rs 500 and payed Rs 2828 through Check (Check number 475508), same was communicated on call and mail. Now after two month i am getting many call from Airtel Delhi legal dep asking me to pay Rs 560. They are treating me very badly giving me 1 hour time to pay the amount. I had visited Airtel store, and called customer care but no help.
I had requested this legal dept to get representative from Airtel to talk with, but they are not listening to me and keep saying to pay Rs 560.
Is this a way to treat a customer who stayed with Airtel for 5 years and payed 1800 to 2000 Rs per month?
whom to contact to resolve this issue?
Below was the last mail communication with Airtel.

Microsoft Office for Android

Posted: 28 Aug 2013 04:35 AM PDT

Microsoft brings Office Mobile to Android smartphones

The once-mythical Office Mobile for iPhone has been available for a while, but what about that rumored Android version? As of today, it's equally real: Microsoft has launched Office Mobile for Android. Its cloud-focused approach to editing Excel, PowerPoint and Word documents will be familiar to those who've tried the iOS release, including SkyDrive storage support. What differences exist are there primarily to accommodate Google's Holo interface guidelines -- as on iOS, there's no tablet-native interface. The pricing certainly hasn't changed. While the core app is free, you'll need an Office 365 subscription to start working.
