I have got ZTE ZXDSL 531B series one which I got from BSNL some like 5 years back. Will it work with the new thunder plans and will give me best speeds ? 

I used to use this with my BSNL 650 Combo plan ( used it till 2011 ) which used to give me 280kb/s ( 2mbps unlimited night plan ) and this worked fine with it.

I don't want to listen to reliance people saying to me "hey, this won't work with new connection, u need to buy new one" scam. So let me know peeps.

Also, I have lost the adapter for it, so anyone mind linking me to ebay.in or flipkart to buy a new one?

The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to various ministries of the central government on a PIL seeking modification of internet laws to make watching pornography a non-bailable offence.

A bench of Chief Justice Altamas Kabir and Justices A R Dave and Vikramjit Sen issued notice on Kamlesh Vaswani's petition saying existing laws had failed to prohibit proliferation of internet pornography and alleged that it was affecting the younger generation and resulting in increasing sexual assaults on women.

 

Appearing for the petitioner, senior advocate M N Krishnamani said the government urgently needed to take pro-active steps to block all pornographic websites as they were affecting the "peace of mind, health and wellness, happiness and human potential".

Hi.. I having a problem right now.

I have a plan for 8 GB 2MBPS and after 8GB 512 KBPS unlimited. I always get upload speed around 40-50 KBPS on 2 MBPS and 512 KBPS both connection.

Today after 4 PM i am getting upload speed around 5 KBPS. I don't know what happening here. Is anyone else having same problem or BSNL decreased the speed for my plan? Please anyone help me...

I am using Airtel broadband+fixedline connection. I wish to setup wifi at my home (range-30-40 ft). I could just figure out that I have a Beetel 110BX1 ADLS2 modem+router. I have no idea what this means! Can somehow please suggest do I need to buy only a router or a modem+router. Whatever be the case, please suggest the best combination for Airtel. Budget is not a constraint.

Quit MTNL. MTNL doesnt know how to fix DNS issue. (Its been 2 months now.. still problem persists.) 

Either go with Airtel or Joister Broadband.

The government will soon ask all its employees to stop using Google's Gmail for official communication, a move intended to increase security of confidential government information after revelations of widespread cyberspying by the US. A senior official in the ministry of communications and information technology said the government plans to send a formal notification to nearly 5 lakh employees barring them from email service providers such as Gmail that have their servers in the US, and instead asking them to stick to the official email service provided by India's National Informatics Centre.

"Gmail data of Indian users resides in other countries as the servers are located outside. Currently, we are looking to address this in the government domain, where there are large amounts of critical data," said J Satyanarayana, secretary in the department of electronics and information technology.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday expressed concerns over the falling rupee and blamed external forces for the slowdown in the Indian economy. The Prime Minister claimed that it was not only the Indian economy that is going through a turbulent phase but also other developing countries which had seen their economies facing tough times. "What triggered the sharp depreciation in the rupee value are certain external forces. Global factors like tension in Syria and prospects of US tapering its federal policy also had an impact," Manmohan Singh said while making a statement on the economy in Parliament. He also urged people to control the consumption of gold and oil to control the burgeoning Current Account Deficit. "We need to reduce our appetite for gold and economise the use of petroleum products and take steps to increase our exports," Singh said. Noting that the rupee has also been hit due to the Current Account Deficit, the Prime Minister assured that the government will take steps to restrict the fiscal deficit. "The Government will do whatever is necessary to contain the fiscal deficit to 4.8 per cent this year," Singh said.

My ACT story has been painful to say the least.

This has been the timeline (dates might be off by a day or two):

May 21st: I applied for the connection. The sales rep came to my house and collected approximately Rs. 4100/- for their 50mbps plan, 250 GB Plan. I was told I will be getting the connection in the next 7 working days

May 25th-May 29th: I didn't hear anything from ACT. Thus, I called them back. They did not even have my customer ID. The sales representative from Cox Town, had not filed my application. His name is Manju (+919945595541)

May 29th: I repeatedly kept calling Manju (who didn't even answer my calls once after taking the advance), and Customer Service. I kept Manju's number on repeat dial. After 50+ calls, finally he SMSd back saying that he will get his part done. I finally received a text from ACT saying that they received my money. I was given a new date (7 working days more)

June 4th - June 11th: I called up ACT customer service again, since I hadn't heard anything from them. I posted on their FB page, and must have called customer service at least 20 times. (average of 2-3 times daily). Again, nothing! The nodal officers' number doesn't work. Everyday I was given the same answer : In the mornings - "sir, today evening it will be done for sure", and in the evening - "sir, tomorrow morning it will be done for sure"

June 12th: Finally, I could reach Kiran (Nodal officer), who promised the connection would be done in 24 hours (I had also e-mailed Kiran) 
June 13th: I get the connection at my home. 18 working days (24 normal days) after paying the deposit. This is not where the story ends. 

July 2nd: In the night, the connection stops working. 

July 3rd: Early morning I call up CS, file a complain. I am told that the connection will be fixed within 24 business hours

July 4th-July 5th: I hear nothing from ACT at all. I called up CS every day - and I am given the same answer "sir, they are fixing it right away. It will be done in a few hours". On July 5th, I lost patience, and refused to hang up till the guy escalated the call. He escalates the call to Kiran (Nodal officer).  Kiran promises to call back in 10 minutes. In couple of hours, the issue is fixed, and my internet is up and running again. I am told, this will never happen again.

July 6th: Evening: Internet stops working again! 

July 7th: I call up CS. They tell me that the issue will be fixed permanently this time. The issue is resolved later in the day (at around 7 PM)

July 9th (Today): I notice in the morning that my internet is down again. I call up CS again. They tell me that the issue will be resolved today, permanently. I try to reach Kiran, but he is unavailable.

Thankfully I didn't disconnect my Airtel 4mbps (I wanted ACT since Airtel doesn't have 16mbps in my area). I will wait for a few days, and if the next 2 weeks I face the same connectivity issues - I will disconnect the line. I will strongly advise people to not go for ACT. 

Is this entire company out there to rob us with false claims? 

Anyone using this plan please post reviews how much speed you get as well as connection stability. Does it disconnect a lot or something? Since it being prepaid can't trust blindly need fellow members reviews only then I'll shifted from Tikonna to Hathway.

ive been using dlink 2750U modem for an year and now want to connect a wireless ip cam and need for port forwarding but couddnt find it in the router management page(dsl 2750U of other countries have this functionality but not india??)

If you are, how do you manage to get it recharged in India? Asking for a friend. He gave me a VC number but that turns up as "invalid" on DishTV and PayTM. While registering on Dish TV's website it shows the VC as an "international VC" and does not proceed towards further registration.

I know a LOT of people get their DTH recharged in India. What am I missing here (other than the legality angle)?

I wanted to start a new experience thread simply to discuss MTNL VDSL.

Some things to consider before/after taking a new VDSL connection

SNR margins (SNRM)
Below 9 dB : Poor experience with lots of HEC and CRC errors. Line will disconnect frequently.
9   - 11  dB : Ok but not ideal. Disconnections will be there if some unexpected variance is introduced by rains, humidity in the wire.
12 - 16  dB : Ideal and realistic value. Expect almost no disconnections as the line has more wiggle room for tolerating variances.
17 dB and up : God Mode. Lucky few get this on VDSL synced at 30 mbps and up. So far I have seen various stats and no one has reported this SNRM (That is because VDSL sync rates are always higher)

Higher you sync rate, lower the SNRM will be. Lower the SNRM, lower the connection reliability. Lower reliability means frequent disconnections. Hence ISP's have a setting in DSLAM to artificially increase SNRM value for a particular phone line. Hence you sync at lower rate and line automagically becomes stable.

Attenuation may not be that important after all. It reduces sync speeds over a distance but is not an indicator of connection reliability. (You can roughly calculate your line length from it. Do it here)

Apply for VDSL connection only if you are within half km. Otherwise you will get ADSL like sync rates.

I will update this entry with some of our findings. Since VDSL is somewhat new to India, this thread can help some early adopters.

Currently the speeds are decent for fast servers. But single streams are slow due to a bottleneck somewhere.

I've been using FTTH in Thane for 6 months and I am quite satisfied with. However earlier I was on hathway and used to host a counter strike gaming server for my friends. After FTTH I am unable to open ports.

This is my network diagram-

I want to host a Counter Strike 1.6 Server.

I earlier followed this to port forward on hathway and it worked perfectly. But on MTNL it does not work, my friends are not able to connect.

I have set the default gateway for the ONT as 192.168.0.251 and for the router as 192.168.1.1

Can someone guide me on how to port forward.

Hi Guys,  have been using Reliance wired broadband service for almost 3 years now and was "semi" satisfied with the service.  Recently i shifted to a new place and checked with local guy if the connection could be transferred, there was no reliance coverage in the new place as per him. So I called up customer care on Aug 10th and put in a request to cancel the connection (207223100), its been 19 days now and the connection is still not terminated.  I was using the new thunder 699 plan which is a advanced rental plan, i have already paid the bill for Aug month on 5th itself.   Reliance has sent me a bill again, I have got a confirmation mail from reliance acknowledging the termination request.   How can they send me a bill again when im in advanced rental plan and have req for termination,  its pathetic to talk to the cc as one would only get the drone reponse. "Sir, I am escalating sir. Someone will call you soon sir".   

What i dont understand is why would it take 20 days just to terminate a connection??   I am sick and tired of this!!
