I think that should entitle you for more validity period but this varies a lot from one operator to another.
My personal experience with my own numbers.

1). Airtel Prepaid, haven't recharged in last 1 year, works fine, I do sometime make a call from it, but don't know if i used it more than once in 3-4 months and
its mostly switched off.

2). Aircel, Bought in 2009/10, used a few days and kept it aside, after 6 months took it out and it worked, recharged it for Rs.100/- in 2011 and never used it, took it out after gap of 5-6 months and using it for 3G, its working till date, but now I've recharged it for 2000+ in last 2 months.

3). Idea Prepaid, Number was good so bought it, but never used regularly, but I did managed 200 per 6 months cause, Idea used to send SMS stating your total recharge value is less than 200 in last 6 months as per TRAI rules, please recharge immediately to avoid loosing number....

4). Reliance GSM, used it regularly then left it Idle, checked after few months it was working, then checked again 3 months later, Number was de-activated already.

5). voda pre-paid, used in Data card, Recharged for 505 as first recharge, worked for a month in modem, took it out and tried it after 2 months, number had incoming but no outgoing even after having Rs.10-20 as balance. Never asked them why as it was only for data card and I moved to aircel already.

6). T24, used only when Bigbazaar gave free talktime, never recharged from outside shop or other than free talk value, works fine since first day of launch till now.

Reading a lot about it. Looks like I missed the boat. Supposed to be the latest viral hit on the internet. Could not find the particular music video on YouTube. This one comes at the top but is audio only.

came as an in-video ad. found it pretty impressive.
