Tata fiber to the home ping

Posted: 15 Feb 2012 12:04 PM PST

Hi guys.

I have been an airtel user for over half a decade now.Their fair usage policy has finally broken my patience. My housing area got fiber to the home recently. The service provider is tata for the same. They are offering connection with No FAIR USAGE POLICY. I would gladly make the switch but I need to know about the ping tata geta. I am living in Delhi and am into a lot of online gaming. Primarily counter strike. If there is a major difference in the ping of tata and airtel I wontbe able to abandon airtel. Can you guys please llet me know ehat kind of ping do you get on tata? Does it being a fiber opic connection affect the latency in any way?

Thanks in advance

3 26 ms 24 ms 25 ms 117.193.48.1

This is what I wanted to know, from what I've observed, a simple tracert to google, takes 35ms on one gateway and 165ms (the route followed on the faulty gateway is weird too) on the other (from Gurgaon), the difference being the pings sky rocket on Tata's network, and I wonder Tata would be treating the two gateway's differently.

6 148 ms 114 ms 116 ms 59.163.206.161.static.chennai.vsnl.net.in

Don't you think this is a bit too high, here are my results on dsl

C:\Users>tracert 59.163.206.161

Tracing route to 59.163.206.161.static.chennai.vsnl.net.in [59.163.206.161]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.1.1
2 7 ms 4 ms 6 ms 117.198.120.1
3 14 ms 22 ms 14 ms 218.248.169.42
4 54 ms 54 ms 55 ms 59.163.206.161.static.chennai.vsnl.net.in [59.16
3.206.161]

Trace complete.

I could be wrong though :P

Which one gives satisfactory Broadband service in Bangalore?

Posted: 15 Feb 2012 11:06 AM PST

BSNL is quite good, unless they are plain lazy in your area. The 1350 plan gives you 30GB of data at 4mbps followed by 512k post fup. Most issues with bsnl can be resolved by emailing the NOC, if necessary.

ACT does seem decent though, from what I've read, I wonder why don't want to go with them.
