Got new BSNL broadband connection. Few queries regarding speed, plan change etc. Posted: 05 Feb 2012 12:49 PM PST Quote: Thanks for the reply. What should be the ideal attenuation and snr values and what effect do they have. Though my connection is stable. Currently I do not use any portal coz I do not now the portal ID and password. I am on NIB 1. I tried calling customer care again today (1500) to know my portal id and password but noone picked the phone for 5 min after which I disconnected the phone. Is it the normal waiting time to reach bsnl customer care? Thanks for the wonderful reply. Explained the terms very well. :) My ip series is 117.197........ so I guess its NIB 1 only? The connection is very stable but just out of curiousity what could be the reason for such values specially when the wires are completely new? Also does the DNS mentioned in the router important or they are overridden by those mentioned in the network connection settings under tcp/ip? |
Posted: 05 Feb 2012 12:48 PM PST Quote: Finally, I received the correct information from Airtel and TATA communication. They offered me/us 1 Mbps lease line and not 1 MBps and their costing is way too high. Although Reliance Comm. offering us at a very less price tag, but I am not sure how good their services are. Anyone using Reliance broadband or lease line? Please share your experiences. You say you need 1.5TB, ergo, no less than 5mbit/s will do, and to be perfectly frank, even that wouldn't be advisable since it's rarely a good idea to try running a line (even a dedicated/leased line) at 100% capacity. If I were you I'd be asking for 8mbit/s at the minimum, 10+ is better. I'll PM you that # from Tulip and maybe alternatives from other providers like Spectranet when I get in to my office tomorrow afternoon. |
Optical fiber FFTH 16Mbps -Speed Posted: 05 Feb 2012 12:02 PM PST Quote: I thought it might. This is (as you can probably guess) a Google server located in Bombay - I guess they also have them in Chennai given your other results, and for reasons I can't fathom, BSNL's DNS is pointing you at the ones in Chennai which are causing requests to Google to go most of the way around India instead of hitting the closer server - I don't know why, it just is - probably BSNL's settings. FYI: I'm showing all this to my tech team so that we can proactively ensure we don't have these problem when we go national... and in the meantime my CTO may be able to offer up some advice. Hrm. But you see now in both those traces, there are 2 issues I'm still having: 1. The trace still appears to go via Pune 2. Hop #4 which was performing so horribly before (115.114.57.165) no longer is - it is roughly what I would expect from each respective type of connection - if not just a tad high from the DSL connection, but still perhaps acceptable. So we have to wonder: WTF is going on at BSNL that is causing #1 to happen and worse still: why are the DNS servers behaving the way they are and sending traffic to the "wrong" servers? I mean, it would be OK if it went from Gurgaon to Chennai via Hyderabad or whatever but it's going via Mumbai, so... this does seem to be an issue on BSNL's side, my doubt about that is rapidly fading. |

Amazon launches Junglee.com Shopping Platform in India Posted: 05 Feb 2012 11:19 AM PST google shopping has country specific versions and it is usually horribly outdated. i end up getting results for rediff and indiatimes stores where the products are mostly discontinued. junglee at least is likely to stay up to date and keep a control on bad listings. i do not see google doing much moderation on their product search database because it is not a heavily used service. ---------- and worse. it seems to list products on blogs and regular websites as well which are not really selling the products. so it has turned into a product information search engine rather than a online store search engine. :| shopping - Google Search |
Yuvraj Singh diagnosed with cancer !!! Posted: 05 Feb 2012 11:12 AM PST cancers are a recurring beasts. very few people probably never get re-cancered after successful treatments. on an evil note. revital has replaced yuvraj singh with salman khan in their ads. i heard that khan was paid rs. 10 crores for this ad campaign. my question is... has someone asked revital if their capsules were the cause of cancer in yuvraj singh. <sarcasm> as a tweet on the net went like... Twitter / Sejal: So sad RT @MihirBijur So, ... |
