By this I mean, I'm not currently in India so I don't see if Tata is advertising anything other than DoCoMo - I've not seen much in the way of advertising for their consumer broadband services. Even when I was last in India there wasn't much, except some cryptic campaign centered around "digital Mumbai" or something, but after checking that website (if I was a consumer) I'd probably have got confused and left it.

I don't keep track of absolutely everything that goes on in the telecoms world, but when I need to find information it helps to know where to look. I'm also not an outsider.

Query regarding Spectranet Broadband

Posted: 07 Mar 2011 10:24 AM PST

Guys

I am using BSNL BB 625 Unlimited plan and had a look at Spectranet BB plans and found it quite gud actually so decided to call them reg the availability in Hyderabad also the installation charges and all. I decided to go with Express 768 Kbps unlimted plans.

Upon calling them, the guy said that the installation charges may range upto Rs 1000 to Rs 2000 and apart from the tariff we need to pay an additional Rs 100 per month towards maintainence charges to cable op :o

My question is

1) What's the installation charges ? Does it depend uopn the feasabilty and area?

2) Why shud we pat extra maintainence charges? He said it becoz of feasabilty. :|

Let me know is changing frm BSNL to Spectranet worth . How is the service of spectranet.

Online payment of the Bills

Posted: 07 Mar 2011 10:15 AM PST

It is good for us.
Because when bsnl starts online feature to pay bill online, we will lose our money and even bills will remain unpaid. So, it is better for you as well as for me to pay bill by standing in the queue. I talked with BSNL customer care executive of landline, he told me that he does not know that this type of feature is available. When I talked with broadband customer care executive, he told me that I will get unpaid bills in the list after entering unique ids in 24hrs. I talked with him almost six months ago, and still waiting to get bills under my portal. I do not know how bsnl clock is working and carrying which planet's time.

Tata Indicom ULTA SMS PACK

CDMA networks are best [For city area ] . Superb voice quality even if signal is less and network coverage from a tower is more when compared to GSM signal . But our Indian companies are not interested in expanding network and releasing Good handsets . In my taluk [Tehsil](Has 30k+ population) Tata Indicom was launched in 2004 , they have only one tower . Not even interested in expanding their network .

Airtel 3G launch in Delhi NCR

I tried to check Vodafone's tariffs but their couldn't find it on their website.

Reliance and Tata Docomo both don't clarify the roaming aspect in their website.

If all operators don't allow you to use the data pack while roaming then 2G is much better than 3G.

My phone supports 10.2mbit/s - I almost can't wait to test it on that.

Dictators and the power of the web!

Posted: 07 Mar 2011 01:38 AM PST

The power of the web and its having a large role to play wrt to dictators is over-exaggerated IMO.

What % of Tunisia & Egypt are on the web < 10%. Therefore what role can the web really have played in instigating riots there that endured for weeks at a time that too by poor-middle class people not the elite that are internet savy.

Instead i would suggest it was mainly cellphones. The power of the mobile network and the cheap cost of a phone to send sms messages, video etc.

I posted this over cpl of weeks ago elsewhere. On the weekend, in an interview with Saeed Naqvi of x-news, Shashi Taroor said the same thing :)

Cant connect to 3G. Need help

Posted: 07 Mar 2011 12:21 AM PST

I got 3G activated on my number, but even after umpteen tries could not latch on to 3G network. Myself being technical guy, i tried everything, but in vain. My brother who uses a pre paid connection, was able to access 3G network ( from the same location)

Have raised complaints, got new MO settings but nothing seems to be working.

I also tried switching to pure UMTS, but then only the symbol 3.5G appears with no network coverage.

Did anyone faced any similar issues?

Solicit Help..

Fivenet New Diwali Plan Rs. 5,999 for 1 Year, Upto 10 Mbps speed

Update:

I got the problem solved! i got hold of a person working for the operator... requested him and he was kind enough to invest some time of his, in solving my problem. BTW, even after so many repeated calls... still no call from Reliance BB for a possible new connection.

Another trouble:
In youtube videos, if i select HD videos.... internet traffic stops for 30sec-1min.... then the video loads normally. Now, why the internet stops for this short duration? I have installed a gadget and confirmed that this is happening... Any thing i can tweak from my side? I also would like to say, that if i open the video directly in HD resolution, then it loads normally. So the problem only occurs if i open the video in SD and click to HD later on....

Best Wireless Broadband in Cochin?

Posted: 06 Mar 2011 07:41 PM PST

heard a lot about very good speeds from BSNL in kerala. Can someone from kerala comment please. Tata is otherwise a ripoff - not limited, after fair usage limit the speeds come down to CDMA 1X standards which should be about 115kps(downloads @ 10 - 15 kBps)

Reliance Wireline Broadband: Any one needs help in getting a connection?

Posted: 06 Mar 2011 06:06 PM PST

Hi Auro,

One of my friends, had applied for reliance wireline broadband connection in Koramangala 6th block, Bangalore. The person who came for installation after 1 week said that there is no connectivity to my apartment and he needs long cable which he doesn't have and asked him to call the sales person. He tried to reach out to that person, but didn't get a proper response and so he had to cancel the cheque for the installation charges. He is thinking of going with Airtel now. He would like to give Reliance another chance provided he gets a professional communication and service this time. Will PM you my contact details.
