Videocon D2H HD DVR User Experience and Review Posted: 28 Feb 2011 01:05 PM PST Alright i would share 1 thing.....(these issues are solved now) After i posted here, i felt like trying out the recorder. I set a schedule & then went to sleep. When i woke up i saw - 1) I got the message that there are "2 recordings" going on, i need to stop 1 of them, to change my channel (I had set only 1 schedule, still it showed 2) 2) When i gave the nod to stop 1, it didnt even show me which 1 i can stop :O.....the dialog box was blank.....:O - Which 1 should i stop, to get the STB working properly?? 3) I couldnt Play/pause, rewind/forward...... 4) To add to the woes, the "Recorded programme" showed me the message that i didnt have the rights to record!! :O :O :O.... I immediately restarted the STB & mailed the Online Team at around 1 PM. They must have directed an engineer, who called me up by 4:30......i started with the 3rd & 4th problems listed here. And he immediately must have understood - He didnt even listen to any other complaints & said "I will call u in 5 minutes". After 5 minutes, he called up & said - now all your issues should be settled. To my surprise, all was well, as if nothing had happened!! I called him again and asked him what was the issue.....he said "You were not having the rights to access DVR functions - it happens sometimes due to oversight". I ended up laughing at the whole scene!! I had gone ahead thinking so many negatives & it was this silly reason!! The only things now pending with me are - Remote's responsiveness is a bit "Funny", and minor signal related issues. He has promised me to send someone today. Hope that this also gets solved early!! Regarding worth of channels - i wise advice.....Travel XP HD is just awesome!! The others are worth too, but this 1 has caught my eye - coz 1) I am least interested in Zee HD - Mom likes to watch daily soaps on it. 2) Movies NOW - I watch very few English Movies....somehow, i never feel inclination to watch too many English movies. 3) D2h Movies - how many times do u watch a movie over & over again?? Quality is good, but u watch a movie once/twice.... 4) NGC & Discovery - look really good, but ultimately shows are very similar to the regular channels - so its kinda repeat for me. So, Travel XP is a true novelty here.......people who have less time to visit places (i am that unlucky 1), can actually have a tour thru this channel.....such true colours & sound - i listen to it in my 5.1 channel set!! By the way, i dont know if any other DTH is giving this channel or not..... |
Posted: 28 Feb 2011 12:06 PM PST 903 - Test Channel - Mostly this is Zee HD, coz when i compared the regular shows' quality, i saw that this channel had a striking improvement. 907 - Movies Now HD 909 - HD D2h Movies (Free Movies, not PPV) 933 - D2h Music HD 936 - NGC HD 937 - Discovery HD 938 - Travel XP HD - people may take this lightly (I did early on) but its awesome!! 949 - Test Feed - Totally no idea yet....(can u check which channel is that??) |
Important news for all bsnl broadband changes plans 1 feb 2011 Posted: 28 Feb 2011 11:49 AM PST Thanks Dilip for the advise. I just called up BSNL Broadband Customer Care and they said the speed I am getting depends on the distance from the exchange. I asked what about the speed promised according to the plan. They could not give me a satisfactory answer. I think I should wait till morning cause I think BSNL Customer Care do not have the right people in the night shifts. |
Posted: 28 Feb 2011 10:52 AM PST Quote: Both. Either a discount/waiver for a contract term of removing it altogether. As I think I said in one of my previous posts, yes. Apart from a certain few ports closed for security reasons (25 outgoing, 137-139 etc), ports are generally open. NAT will need to be configured on the CPE for torrents, but as I've already mentioned in another post to you, you should get anything up to 625kbyte/s assuming the torrent is sufficiently seeded. If there is a peer on Hayai's network, anything up to around 80-100 megabyte/s (most gigabit NICs will support about this much). Trust me mg, as soon as i will have cash i will opt 4 hayai. I have 1 question, so what to do with the hathway modem?? Is it company's property or i can keep it 4 experimenting?? Or should i bother to call them and disconnect my line permanently?? |

I have changed my plan couple of times via Vodafone portal. Keeping my fingers crossed. If such things happen with me i'll just dump the connection right away and will even file a suit against them in Consumer Court. |

Tata Sky launches Tata Sky+ HD at just Rs. 3999/ Posted: 28 Feb 2011 09:10 AM PST Quote: Got my TataSky 500GB HD-DVR installed yesterday. It is very nice. Watched the Ind-England game on HD and the picture quality was stunning on my Sony Bravia 40" LCD. The DVR is an amazing little thing. I can record 2 programs simultaneously and watch a third program. You can watch live TV in ultra-slowmotion which I discovered accidently. You have to pause the program and press the FF button. It can playback at 1/10, 1/4 speeds. You can do this even without recording the program. I got a little carried away with this feature last night :-) Problem is it needs 2 cables. I have a concealed cable for my TV but could not use it since the DVR needs 2 cables. Now I have 2 black ugly cables running along the wall of my drawing room. :-( All channels can be paused and rewound without explicitly recording it. If you turn on the TV halfway through a program, you can just rewind it and watch from the beginning !! At Rs.3999 and zero installation cost, it is a bargain. They also gave me a credit of Rs.550 for ordering and paying through the phone using IVR (didn't expect that at all !!). I have subscribed to the Rs.240p/m Supreme Sports pack + HD Gold Pack Rs.50p/m. It covers all the channels I need. Not bad for under Rs.300 per month !! Presently TS is having a pilot in the southern states. Buy it. It is the best deal out there. I am blown away with it. Can't wait to go back home and fool around with it. Cheers. |

Mobile Number Portability was about to change that idea, but I just received a message on my Dad's no (Loop Mobile) that reads like this: REQUEST REJECTED BY DONOR DUE : SUBSISTING CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS FROM THE SUBSCRIBER AGREEMENT. NOW, an absolutely HOPELESS service like Loop Mobile that dare to even call themselves mobile service providers (dropped calls, frequent cross connections, extremely poor network etc) has the guts to send a message like this when ALL OUR DUES are clear, ALL VALUE ADDED SERVICES unsubscribed, and EVERYTHING else in proper order. I am so angry that I can go to any lengths to get my message across to the highest of authorities. Please guide me through this. Why Myway is not adding channels ? Posted: 28 Feb 2011 07:40 AM PST In case of dth services they have limited amount of Bandwidth available so they won't add much channels . But in IPTV they can add 500+ channels . What is the problem with Myway ? They have sufficient space to broadcast channels ,but not adding any new channels . How many years we have to wait to watch HD Channels in BSNL IPTV ? They don't know the fact that if they add more channels they get more subscribers [In India Quantity is more important than quality] . |
Posted: 28 Feb 2011 07:19 AM PST Thanks for the links guys. Who will bell the cat, indeed! I did try to buy the router from outside. It was not any cheaper locally. On top of that I was warned by the private sellers themselves that if purchased from outside, BSNL gets disinterested in providing routine help with the router when needed! I've also learned that the verbal promise (before purchase) of one-year warranty on the router is actually an one-time replacement warranty for a year! i.e. if it stops working after just one month, it would be replaced with another unit, but that will be the end of warranty coverage! |

GTPL router config problem. Unable to set up AUTO LOGIN Posted: 28 Feb 2011 06:51 AM PST Quote: I would suspect that cloning the MAC ID was probably the thing that made the difference. In that case, there probably is some MAC binding going on. No, I don't care if they told you there isn't, the computer never lies, humans do. The OOMA hub shouldn't need any PPPoE details to set up - it's a phone box, all you should do is configure your login name and password for the OOMA service. If the WBR1310 has more than one ethernet port, plug your PC in to one and the OOMA hub in to another (there's not much point in doing as WBR1310 >> OOMA >> PC unless the WBR1310 has only 1 ethernet port - in which case, it still should not require your PPPoE details). I know that I could do as per your explained setup, WBR=>ooma but i want to connect ooma first with ISP cat-5 cable because WBR has not any Qos feature whereas ooma has it. If I connect WBR first and meantime, any computer comes online, the bandwidth will be shared and ooma may suffer some voice quality. Therefore, It is better to connect with OOMA first to get better performance and deliver the rest of bandwidth for WBR. I am still not understanding the problem with OOMA. As I think there is a problem with MTU in ooma which can not change. It detects automatically. I also contacted with tech support of OOMA but no result. I think I have to buy another separate router for OOMA to keep it online 24x7...... Waiting for reply if anyone has something in mind. Thanxxxxx mg again. By the way, About the mac. I have double checked from ISP side, There is no mac bound for me. And Also I have changed ooma mac to my pc. It still does not work. |

"We are unable to process your request, as per telecom norms, DND service cant be activated within 90days of previous activation" What a stupid RULE??? I am sure RULE is not stupid but they have interpreted it wrong. Now my number is vulnerable to SPAM ATTACK.. because DND is disabled. What non-sense! |

Posted: 28 Feb 2011 01:22 AM PST Quote: Usually on a 5.1 surround audio system, general narration and speeches are put on the central channel, and other sound streams are guided to the surround speakers accordingly (to give the surround experience). When an 5.1 output is connected to a stereo output (like a normal TV), a downmixing technique is used to put all the audio streams onto left and right channels. The reduction in the volume could be due to the phase change while downmixing. You can try adjusting the stereo balance control all the way to Left or to Right to check whether the volume is getting normalized on all the channels. |

BBG Combo ULD 1350 has 4 Mbps upto 20 GB, 512 Kbps beyond 20 GB. Not all are lucky enough to get 4 Mbps as the speed depends heavily on line condition. Expect somewhere around 2 Mbps.
