vodafone 3G zoozoo superman: A robber Posted: 27 Feb 2011 12:13 PM PST I am so fed up of those zoozoo ads now that I thought of some ads showcasing zoozoo getting killed. Something on the lines of .. A zoozoo sitting on a park bench sunny morning reading a newspaper, A srcuggy pot belied half shaven dude walks to him, grabs the newspaper, throws it away, then grabs the zoozoo by the neck, shakes the bejesus out of him, finally holds his head with his left hand and his body with the other and pulls away the head.A trickle(tiny) squirt of blood erupts out.(that damn zoozoo dont have much blood).Cut to ... the man holding the zoozoo by his right leg upside down with some blood drops dripping from zoozoo's neck. The ad reads... to be continued. Second ad:2 zoozoos sitting on a outside bench having a cup of "whatever they drink". Cut to ... the distant building window.. broken glass and a nozzle of sniper gun.Boom. One zoozoo's head explodes. The one sitting nextby him goes in shock screaming in his zoozoo dialect. The audience hears a distant reloading of a bullet. And a zoozoo heads explodes on screen. The ad reads... to be continued. Third ad: A bunch of zoozoos chatting away on a sidewalk in a gringy neighbourhood.A car comes by, slows a bit, a gun comes out of the car and starts spraying bullets.Bunch of zoozoos go down. One lonely zoozoo runs away in his wierd running style. The car moves forward.Slow motion sequence. You are watching from the drivers side looking towards the passenger end.Slowly as the car moves along the running zoozoo slowly catches up.raatatatatat. Zoozoo goes down. The ad reads... to be continued. Sorry... I was getting irritated with the zoozoo ads shown in between cricket. So thought of ingenious ads to kill those buggers.I am not a psycho.I just hate them. :) |
FUTURE of BB in India: Will Reliance 4G-LTE be a gamechanger ? Posted: 27 Feb 2011 12:08 PM PST Quote: That's a tricky situation but i some how feel they know very well in which hellish place they are getting into. In wireless space we are having a flood of tech 3G,LTE,wimax,evdo ...they know they have to stand out of the crowd to make a mark. seeing from a diff. side as they have higher BW per user. This could result in 4x more data or 4x more speed or may be both. That will help out them to succeed. Assuming a rent of say Rs20k per tower (as mentioned in the article), they're going to have to cram a large number of users on to the towers just to pay for that - plus power/fuel (often equals the rent), plus the bandwidth (let's say Rs3/GB), plus fiber from the tower to the local PoP or central office (let's say a stock-standard point to point 1Gbit/s link in an urban area about 1,20,000/month). Rule of thumb suggests somewhere then around 1.6 lakh per month plus tax (30%) plus license fees (6%). If they charge Rs1000/subscriber for 100GB we can work backwards: Rs700 left after corporate tax Rs640 after 6% of revenue for the license Rs440 after 20% overheads (labour, operations, MAYBE they can include equipment in there, and I'm being rather stingy even then) Rs140 after bandwidth =========== Rs160k divided by 140 = 1142 customers per tower to break even... which seems remarkably high to me. 100GB * 1142 = 114286 GB = around 380mbit/s CBR (constant bitrate averaged over a month) per site, which if I remember correctly would require 4-5 BTS to handle that kind of customer load, of course, all of these numbers are guesses (except the tax and the 6% license fee), so I could be wildly off, but based on my own assumptions, 50GB to me seems more possible, as it leaves 290 free for infrastructure which halves the number of users needed to break even. However on the other hand, if they upped the price to say Rs1500 for 100GB, (640 would be free for infrastructure in that case and even a profit margin) or even Rs2000 for 200GB (840 free for infrastructure and an even bigger profit margin), then that would work far more in their favour, and the customers favour too. The only issue then would be that now there is a large number of customers (say 200 at any given time) competing for 1Gbit/s of bandwidth = average throughput of 5mbit/s each = better than most 3G operators but not by much. (Damn I hate working out metrics, it's so complicated, even as an example). Quote: Quote: They have asked for half the price what is avg. today per tower. May be cabling is there in that too(i dont know) and as u said intl. BW bought at volumes is not an issue. So all this could result into substantial savings for reliance and in turn they can provide cheaper services. Queries Before Taking BSNL 3G? Posted: 27 Feb 2011 10:13 AM PST I have been using BSNL 3g for the past 3 months & I will try & answer ur queries to the best of my knowledge... 1) The best way to chk is to buy a prepaid BSNL Sim card ( or get it free if u have a BSNL landline) & pop it into a 3G Mobile & chk if u get a 3G signal... If u get a 3G signal then u can recharge it with Rs 50-100 to chk the download speed... Alternately u could recharge with a FRC 121 or some other one(maybe someoe else could inform which FRC is best) to get 50-100MB of free data... & Yes u can use this very sim card in ur modem later on if u decide... 2) The BSNL Data card which costs Rs2500 is actually a 3G Modem... It is recommended to buy a good quality modem from ebay like the Huawei UMG1831(21Mbps for Rs3500) or a HUAWEI K3715(7.2Mbps for Rs 2400-2500) than buy the BSNL modem coz of the quality & price diff... If u buy from ebay u should be able to use it with any service provider while the one from BSNL with only work with BSNL 3) Both the Sims are the same 4) This is a difficult question to answer... The wireless medium is very unstable & varies a lot from location to location... You have to test the speed out urself at ur location to chk if it is better or worse than ur landline... Personally if u ask me the wired line is more stable & if u have BSNL landline u might be better off just taking the 512Kbps @ Rs750/mo plan... BSNL 3G does not have a unlimited plan right now & the only reason I bought BSNL 3g was coz of the tremendous VFM of the 4200 Plan & the fact that I was getting 2Mbps+ speeds ... My advice get the BSNL wired 512Kbps plan if u can coz the 3G plans right now are just not good enough to justify the investment(2500+ for the modem) & the tension(low speeds in some areas high pings & lots of disconnections) ... PS If u have a 3G capable mobile(HSPDA+) a 3G modem is not necessary if u are only gonna use on ur laptop... |
Posted: 27 Feb 2011 09:46 AM PST In general PCM gives only stereo and Dolby Digital gives 5.1 surround sound. If the PCM is multi channel i.e. 5.1 PCM then both PCM and Dolby Digital are same. The only difference is where the decoding of Dolby is happening. In case of 5.1 PCM output, the decoding is happening at the STB and in the other case its happening at the home theater. If your home theater can not handle/decode Dolby Digital then you have to go for PCM only. But I don't think so. If your home theater has optical IN then it might support Dolby digital too. This is an assumption only, not a fact. |

Posted: 27 Feb 2011 08:32 AM PST Quote: Thats very correct. But still people prefer Vodafone here because of their A1 quality of network. I subscribed to the 299 plan just couple of days ago and it gives a stable speed of around 80Kbps all day with almost no interruptions. I was using BSNL 3G but had to stop it because it uses MTNL network when I commute to Mumbai and the MTNL network is pathetic. I was just waiting for Vodafone to reduce the prices of GPRS plans. ---------- Post added at 10:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:01 PM ---------- I'm on prepaid, so paying 299 for just 2GB every month is just way too much. Well, one of the downsides of being on postpaid... |

From where mtnl broadband speed is set/ who set speed of broadband and how ? Posted: 27 Feb 2011 05:25 AM PST It's usually set in the DSLAM, whether this is in a cabinet or at the phone exchange (the DSLAM is essentially where your phone or ADSL line terminates and joins with all the other users in your area to the central office). |

BSNL 3G average Upload/download speeds Posted: 27 Feb 2011 12:42 AM PST I have a 7.2Mbps router & I normally get around 2Mbps download & 500Kbps unload speed with a weak signal... Though it is not uncommon for it to rise to 2.5 Mbps DL & 900Kbps+ Unlimited... @iitmanojit Most 3.6Mbps modems have their upload speeds limited to 384Kbps so u would experience decent upload speeds on them... |
MTNL 3G on iPhone 4 - Settings & Performance Posted: 27 Feb 2011 12:23 AM PST Quote: Do you really need it? You could always just mute your iPhone when you don't wish to be disturbed; missed calls will show up on your call list. However, if you still want to subscribe to the (premium) service, register for it with MTNL. That way, you can retrieve missed call info at a price. Nothing you need to do on the phone (unless you want to Call Forward to the quoted MTNL number). |

Only 4000 tickets to be sold to "general public" for World Cup final Posted: 26 Feb 2011 09:26 PM PST http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc_cricket_worldcup2011/content/current/story/503159.html "Haroon Lorgat, the ICC chief executive, shook off the World Cup ticketing fiasco, saying that the ticket ballot which is about to be instituted for the finals and semi-finals was the best way to deal with the heavy demand for the ruling body's flagship event." "All through his media conference Lorgat repeated made the claim that the ticketing crisis and the official ticketing website crashing when tickets for the final went on sale, proved the 'strength of the game', and that the supply would never be able to catch up with demand. "This is how wonderful the growth in our sport has been. It is a reflection of the popularity of the game. It certainly negates those naysayers about the demise of 50-over cricket; it shows you what the flagship event means" India is a cricket-crazy nation & it is only here (sub-continent) that you will find such craze for home & knockout games. I guess someone needs to tell the ICC president that |

considering about buying an lcd tv Posted: 26 Feb 2011 07:08 PM PST |
Posted: 26 Feb 2011 02:42 PM PST Hi Guys, I am new to this forum. Need a little 'Honest' advice. Sun Direct has really pissed me off with their HD content, customer care and everything else... So I am planning to Move to Dish TruHD.. Specifically as they are offering the maximum number of HD channels (30 is very far away from its nearest competitor Sun with 6 regular HD channels). So have few question to help me decide... 1) Does dish have a HD-DVR or it is a plain old HD-receiver with no recording? 2) Does any one actually get all the 30 channels, I was little suspicious that these could be up-scaled broadcasts. Can someone do me a favor by posting pictures if possible of these channels. 3) How is the customer care @ Dish? I know of the CC services in India suck, but can they be tolerated and are they educated enough to speak to customer ? ( I had this experience with Sun where even after calling for 20th time for one issue they would start with the first step... "Please switch off your STB and check the connections..."... Dont they read the previous call log which they DO HAVE??? ) 4) How do the regular channels fare? I am asking becos the quality of regular channels on Sun HD is worse than the analog Hathyway Cable connection I have. All Advices are appreciated........... Thanks in Advance... Cheers, IndyMav :) |
