Shifted from MTNL to Hathway: Help needed

Posted: 24 Feb 2011 12:41 PM PST

Thanks Matthew. I now understand why this is happening.

Quote:

Perhaps MTNL needs to check out your lines (may involve replacing the physical cables) in order to get your connection working properly
Well, they already charged money and replaced my physical cables last week and said it would be alright. However, the problem seems to be affecting ALL MTNL USERS in Mumbai, so it's not a line problem but a server issue at their end. I waited for a week, and this problem had begun again since 2 days, so I have shifted to Hathway which gives less speed but atleast doesn't disconnect every hour as MTNL does.

I say, once again, OH INTERNET GODS, LET HAYAI ARRIVE ALREADY! :(

Shifting from Aircel to MTNL 3G in Delhi - Need Reviews, Coverage Details, Actual Customer Stories

Posted: 24 Feb 2011 11:43 AM PST

I am testing the speeds by using Nokia E51 as a modem. I connected the phone to my laptop via USB cable. The speed I got is around 380kbps download and 300kbps upload. I have laptop with Windows 7.

Will the speed be higher if I use any 3G modem rather than using phone as a modem?

Most of that sentence doesn't make sense. I think as winners of BWA spectrum in 8 circles, Aircel will be allowed to deploy data services on either an LTE or a Wimax platform. I don't know what they've decided on but I think it MAY be WiMax.

While we don't need to specifically buy "LTE spectrum", the issue is more that we don't have the correct license to use a cellular technology capable of delivering telephony services - that is, LTE. On the other hand, Aircel has the license to operate as a cellular provider and Reliance Infocomm I believe do as well, but even then I think they are deploying data-only services for now (but have probably chosen LTE so that they can introduce cellular services later).

If we were to deploy any kind of LTE service it would probably be by either:
1. Buying all of Qualcomm's spectrum at 13000-odd crores
2. Operating as an MVNO under someone else (that is, either Aircel or Reliance)

And I'm not particularly interested in entering the mobile market at the moment, as I don't think there is much value that we can give to that market, that is, we probably can't improve the services much, if at all.

We didn't really test the pings - it was just a field test to make sure everything was working. The CTO tells me that speeds are an average of 8mbit/s, up to about 30 or so, ergo that's what I've been advertising.

No, I'm saying that LTE and WiMax are both contenders for the title of what can be called "4G". We have chosen WiMax, and a form thereof that would allow it to be used on the move. It should give approximately similar results to real-world LTE.

In Sweden? Not likely. But it goes to show more along the lines of what the real-world results can be expected to be, whatever anyone running any tests (in this case Reliance Infocomm) may trumpet as being "results in the field".

Quote:

Originally Posted by acc1444 View Post

I heard that these problems like high traffic is solved somewhat by alcatel-lucent or Nokia-Siemens company new management system.( I don't know exact that who solved).

I think Sonera has deployed Huawei equipment. Telenor I think is deploying with NSN, but probably I'm getting confused as to who is deploying what and where, so as more and more LTE networks come online there will be more results (and variances) about what LTE is capable of.

Our main concern at the moment is to make sure that whatever we deploy works, and works well. My mother-in-law can't get a cellphone signal inside her house - so we'd better make sure that when she switches over to Hayai lite, she can get our signal. Whether this means deploying something similar to a femtocell (a repeater) or whether we end up simply affixing a small, unobtrusive antenna to her fence (I personally think in her case her fence acts a bit like a faraday cage, so I can be almost sure that one or the other will be required) will depend on performance tests when we begin actually selling the service to customers.

DoT issues notice to Idea for Punjab license termination

Posted: 24 Feb 2011 08:30 AM PST

The Department of Telecom (DoT) has issued a notice to Idea Cellular for Punjab License Termination and has also send a demand notice to Spice Communication for Punjab. The regulator alleges that there has been a violation of the substantial equity norm by Idea Celuar and Spice Communication.

The Telecom Disputes Settlement & Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has already heard out Idea cellular's plea on the grant of 3G spectrum in Punjab but the Department of Telecom says it cannot give Idea the Punjab 3G license. Idea has paid Rs 320 crore for it Punjab 3G license.

The final hearing on matter by TDSAT will be held on March 3.

Experience with Reliance 3G

Posted: 24 Feb 2011 04:36 AM PST

-Go for any unlocked modem, it will support 3G from all operators.
-Yeah, Reliance is selling its 21 mbps modem for around 4.5k, it is unlocked so can be used with any operator sim, but too costly while comparing to Huawei UMG 1831 for <=3000rs & k4505 for somewhere b/w 3.5k to 4 k . U can check that in some other threads.
-U r in delhi so yes MTNL is having promotional offer similar to earlier BSNL offer. In MTNL, u can get unlimited data @ 4500rs/6month effectively for 750 rs/month. ( with a 200GB/month soft Fair Usage Policy which they say will choose whether to apply or not).
But before u wanna go for MTNL, plz do check coverage & speed in ur particular area before going for any big recharge.

Idea or Vodafone????

See, i am not prejudiced against Vodafone. But the problem is even if Call-dropping reduces, i wont get the same costing as compared to Idea.....

Please read my 1st 2 points for the pricing that i am getting on my other Idea connection - i am sure, the General Pricing Policy of the organisation cannot be bent for a single customer.

Yeah, i can think of sticking to Vodafone if i get similar pricing.......

Tata is worst service provider

I purchased tata photon plus and after one days the speed was very low and I tried to contact the customer executive but not result when I talked the executive after hours of waiting they say they cant do any thing.Speed is very low.
I have similar experience in the past when I got my tata walky talky telephone bill of Rs5000 instead of monthly average of Rs600/-.
And I had to submit that bill because they threatened me to sue in the court and I didn't have enough time to fight them legally or to go to consumer court so I paid that bill but the next month I removed that connection from my house.

Railwire Broadband launched in Gulbarga - Karnataka

Posted: 24 Feb 2011 12:45 AM PST

We all have read about A. Raja giving franchises of BSNL wimax to his associates and relatives. No surprise that BSNL wimax has turned out to be flop show.

Going by the precedent and prevailing best practices of the Congress government in Delhi, I won't be surprised a bit if the 'Pandit Enterprises' turned out to be an associate or friend of a congress party politician.

Anyway their plan are similar to what MTNL is already offering in Delhi/Mumbai. Nothing earth shattering here folks. Move on.

Malayalam Package

Posted: 23 Feb 2011 11:05 PM PST

I watch Hindi, English & Malayalam channels. I don't watch channels of any other region.

I was wondering if there is a difference between going for a North India Pack & taking Malayalam1 as a Al-a-Carte Pack
or alternatively going with a South India pack and taking Malayalam1 as a free Al-a-carte pack.

For the same price as South Gold, I can get North Gold Cricket - so I don't mind paying for the extra Malayalam1 a-la-carte pack.

Will I miss any Malayalam channel if I go the North Pack way?

I watch only cricket & Gold Cricket pack shows any channel which has cricket, so that's good.

I also get Sony Max, Star Gold, Colors & many other channels extra if I go the North way. Does this sound right?
