I don't see govt falling as a bad thing, its a snap recorrection. Remember stability like with presidents rule isn't the primary goal.

As for coalition politics, none of the national parties can sweep the mid to southern states ontheir own, they have to team up with local parties which are made of the states own people, answerable in the state and not in delhi. So in some ways coalitions have allowed more autonomy over the years than less.

MTNL 3G signals & 2G signals selection problem in dual mode network of Nokia E5

Posted: 07 Feb 2011 11:24 AM PST

Just being on 3G network shouldn't drain your battery. If I don't use data my battery lasts for almost the same time as being on 2G.

Not all towers of MTNL have 3G network.

why did hayai broadband chose India?

Posted: 07 Feb 2011 11:06 AM PST

It is not about nationality of the person. It is about the poor india internet infrastructure which mg wants to upgrade. Mg is just taking advantage of replacing old infrastructure of india which was not upgraded before whereas in other country, they are upgraded recently or already taken in planning by their telecom companies. According to mg, infrastructure are capable of transmitting data at the rate of 1gbps in south korea, japan. Even they are planning to serve internet speed up to 1gbps to each user at affordable price.

I am not telling that this only hayai can do. We have big players like reliance, airtel, tata. They can upgrade but they have taken this step because they made up their mind wrongly. They have realized that customers do not need of high speed internet. Customers are satisfied with 256 kbps. I have seen lots of people who are happy with that speed. Those people do not want to spend money on internet. That's why local cheap wireless companies come into existence. This is all because of Facebook, yahoo and other social sites which do not require high speed & people always remain busy only these websites.
But recently reliance spend $1bn on LTE. According to reliance, it will start by end of this year.

According to me, we should appreciate mg to launch hayai india as soon as possible. After launching it, hayai will make competition in indian market. It will force to rest of company to upgrade their network and provide better service than each others.
& we know it is not possible to do business in india. Company should give bribe to get license. Because in india, corruption becomes tradition.
Mgcarley looks very hopeful to get complete permission to start his project. I hope he can start but I think he should give bribe in security clearance. Then and then he will succeed.
If he denies, it may get delay.

There is no business exist without profit or loss.

Airtel Broadband Throttling/Shaping BitTorrent Traffic: Report

You are rephrasing what I just explained except that you are unwilling to believe that this throttling does happen (where are you are provably wrong).

Again, deep packet inspection (DPI) of cleartext traffic is not illegal and is never going to be, in many cases it is required (for various security implications).

Please dont mix VPNs into the issue, first understand what the issue is. VPNs can bypass throttling (if encrypted). And no, not all VPNs encrypt using 2048bit ciphers, get your facts right, VPNs are technically not even required encrypt your data, VPN is a technology that has many variants and implementations.

IMPORTANT: I'd like to reinforce that even though VPNs can get past throttling if encrypted, you should think very hard about it.

1) Most VPNs bypass all of you network security features and any access control, be very very careful.
2) You no longer have any expectation of privacy, in fact you made yourself more vulnerable.
3) Many VPNs plug into your network adapter and run at escalated privileges (some even run in kernel mode in linux). Unless you know exactly what you are doing, dont run potentially buggy/malicious software.
4) you are trusting a remote third party by using a VPN
5) you may be paying for it but its not above its local jurisdiction.
6) if free solutions are ok for you, good for you, but in general they are pretty poor in service.

Your "port forwarding" rattle is as irrelevant as it gets. I think you know a bit about networks, think about it, you'll know why.

There are legal issues when you get into something like a seedbox, I dont think any of the ISPs are going to be game for it. Its a totally different ballgame then.

hmm you are again getting me wrong :P of cource not all vpn encrpyt using a 2056 bit key standard vpn provders give is 128 bit to 256 bit , which is ok to by pass traffic shaping , unless you have your own server, vps , a cheap vps would cost hardly 10 to 15 euro and i spend 200 euros on my servers per month , that way i have complete control over what am doing !! and use 2056 bit and can go even more deep if i want . but you are wrong about vpn securtiy , everything which happens , happenes between my server and me, it is in tunnel now, all normal scans and attacks are on that, i can even drop my local firewall as my vpn is my firewall , open vpn , client and server are hardly buggy/malicious software , lol please read up documents on them , they are trusted by billion doller companies for coraprte vpn solutions , which is free also !! you may be paying for it but its not above its local jurisdiction ^ true but you to move the court in the country of server location , and they have their own laws , some where no data logs are even kept , and you cannot get more secure then that . but this is a useless argrument , as alredy stated by all others including me this no solution the solution is just stop using the services of service provider , once the customers start going off sense will previal on it's own. Also l33t, no matter what DNS you use, ISPs still know where your traffic is going, thanks to BGP. Routes have to be announced, otherwise routers don't know where to send packets - it's all very good and well knowing the IP address, but how do you think the router knows on which network that IP address is located, or which network(s) to send the traffic through to reach the eventual destinations? @mgcarley that is why open vpn installs it's own network driver and adpator and is not depend on local , the mac address is diffrent then one on local p.c and you can make it dyanamic too it will change at every boot, of cource that wiill require some very fine tuning . as for seedboxes they are an excellent choice and and you don't have to hog the b/w of isp , infact isp's should very happy if all you statred seedboxing :P just ftp down whatever you need and there is no upload traffic happening the ideal solution for all . but again not a solution for every one , a cheap i mean a dirt cheap box starts from 25 usd . the solution stop using aritel or any service provider who does this. p.s thank god am flying out early tomm and don't have live with this till june :P i hope mgcarley your serices would have rolled by then in subrubia of b'bay by then :D arrr i really meesed up multi quote part and editing function is werid on my browers , sry about that gtg now

Everybody is waiting for infotel LTE and hayai broaband project. Hayai broadband may be affordable and mg is very hopeful but as mentioned in the article, infotel will not able to provide data speed starts from 50mbps at affordable prices because LTE instruments are very costly at recent. OR Infotel may provide basic 1mbps at affordable prices. & it is just upgrading network. Hope it will not disappoint us.

I do not think that 4g is future. Optical fiber will be the future. (FTT-x)
Wireless internet have lots of problem in transmission like signal loss, speed drop, high ping time. So there will be a development but with experience, user may prefer fiber first which is not deployed yet but hayai is planning to deploy in some well known cities.

Which connection to go for in iPhone 4 ?

Posted: 07 Feb 2011 09:07 AM PST

Not for any Arguments. I have been a phone geek for 10 years now. I am using phones like iphone 4, blackberry torch , HTC desire HD, Samsung Galaxy S. To be frank . nothing can beat iphone in its speed, touch, quality, luxury, camera. ect. You wont feel difference when you just use all phones a see for a short while. But when you are a regular user you will feel the difference. You cannot compare blackberry and iphone. Both have a different stand. All other phones are trying to compete with iphone and blackberry. iphones apps are touch of perfection. I feel soo good to use facebook, twitter, skype etc. in iphone than my PC. lol. :-P Using wifi in iphone is soo simple and mind blowing. I was a nokia fan years back and used to think iphone a mere waste of money. But now I feel , i cannot live without an iphone. Guys. its worth. !!!

apple iphone 4? not launched in officially india. phones bought from other sources? unlikely to get support from apple in india. though legally purchased phones that are not jailbroken might still be able to get serviced in india considering apple warranties are generally global in nature. but even then iphone 4 is unlikely to be supported here in india.

as for nexus one and nexus s. i believe you can still get paid support from htc and samsung service centers. considering these phones are pretty similar in nature to other devices made by these two companies.

---------- Post added at 12:25 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:23 AM ----------

also... as for updates. majority of owners of iphones in india are running jailbreak editions. and a lot of these users (who are not techies) are generally not likely to update to latest ios versions because they lose their jailbreak. i know people who are still on iOS3 because their phones are working fine and they do not want to risk upgrading to iOS 4 and losing the jailbreak ability.

You can update without losing your jailbreak.

Suggestion for best 3g provider in Punjab besides BSNL

Posted: 07 Feb 2011 08:51 AM PST

Hi All,

I have a Samsung B7722 Dual SIM mobile which has 1 3g + 1 2g SIM slots.
I am using 2 connections : BSNL 3g and Airtel 2g.

Now Airtel does not have 3g in Punjab so I am thinking of shifting from Airtel to another mobile provider which has 3g in Punjab.

My main purpose is to have 2 SIMs,both of which are 3g capable so that I can switch between the 3g SIMs of whichever mobile company is convenient.

Please suggest which 3g provider in Punjab circle is best after BSNL ?

Thanks

It's not like people do this on purpose; it's because of the crappy upload speeds we have here. I'm on a 1 Mbit connection here with an upload speed of 256 kbps (:wall:)

Suppose I download a 4 GB movie in lets say 12 hours, now if I'm seeding till 1:1 ratio, I'll have to keep seeding for > 48 hrs right? But if I want to download another movie, I'll have to ensure that my upload bandwidth is free for that torrent, otherwise we'd run into speed issues right? The only option is to stop seeding the current torrent.

I don't support a hit and run policy and I always try to maintain a 0.5 - 0.7 ratio on my private trackers, but not everyone's that patient right?

Is your download traffic rate limited?

There is no indication that your ISP rate limits your downloads.
However, some of the measurements were affected by noise, which limits Glasnost ability to detect rate limiting.

LOL. Of course we can't cache the whole Internet. But we can cache parts of it and if we have equipment from various CDNs sitting in our network then at least the most popular sites should be relatively fast.

Why is Wireless Broadband better than Broadband?

Posted: 07 Feb 2011 04:51 AM PST

No .... that's where advantages of wireless broadband end.

1) Wireless Broadband is generally more expensive than wired one.(for connection with similar speed)

2) Usually they don't provide high speed true unlimited downloading for wireless connection. (except BSNL 3G)

2) Speed of wireless connection can vary greatly depending upon location & no. of simultaneous users connected at a particular time.

3) Wired connection generally offers more constant reliable speed.

4) Wireless connection may get disconnected frequently due to network variation.

BSNL COnnection related problem

Posted: 07 Feb 2011 03:54 AM PST

Please wait and check whether the issue comes back. If you are not confident of reconfiguring modem, better leave it to be dealt with the BSNL people. You can call SDE and tell him that you cannot browse even though downloads are fine. Also if the problem occurs, disable firewall/antivirus and check.

How to use Airtel DTH on PCTV Card...???

It's working now??? I use Pinnacle PCTV internal TV card. Here how my connection goes.
First see if you have convertors. 1. S-Video to AV (only for Video) 2. Audio - IN to AV (2 Audio White and Red).

Now connect the AV cable to DTH and other side = Yellow(Video) will go to S-Video and White and Red to Audio - IN
Dont browse for channels & make sure you tune to zero channel to view the channels.

Nivyah broadband launches new, updated website

What is the max contention ratio for the multiuser and single user plans?
Am I to understand that if my plan speed is upto 1 mbps, then if 2 users in my area (say building) are using it I will get 512 kbps and if 4 are using it I will get 256 kbps?
That sounds like a pretty poor deal to me.

We could do any speed we wanted for Rs999, but as @lampsy said, currently it'd have a limit of about 45 or 50GB... reducing the speed to 4mbit/s wouldn't reduce the cost.

We'll restrict one or the other, but not both.

Must have. But even Vodafone NZ's new speedtest.net server in Auckland gives me about half the speed of the original one.

A few minutes ago I got a measly 2.6mbit/s to Vodafone NZ as compared to my normal speeds of 14-15mbit/s on WorldXChange.
To India I got about 2mbit/s for HNS server and 0.40mbit/s for Airtel's.

Sad for Vodafone and Airtel respectively :(
