@Dushie, I stay in HSR layout, bangalore. I took BSNL 3g 2 days back and I am getting very poor speed. The max i got is around 960 kbps as per mobile partner.

This is my first 3G connection. I called up customer care, they said they have fixed some problem and asked me to check again. But there is still no improvement.
I am using Huwaei 1550 data card.

I saw you are getting good speed in bangalore. Can you please tell me if there is any settings/tweaks to be done to get the max speed.

I cant hv skype calls which i used had before when i had a wired braodband connection from airtel. If anybody has any solutions/suggestions to this problem please let me know

^ thats correct..the only place where Hayai has launched is IBF..it really has no existence on the ground..the director loves to create threads upon threads regarding anything and everything of a service that exists nowhere except upon some papers lying on somebody's desk.

[Planning] Internet distribution options for semi urban towns.

Posted: 22 Dec 2010 10:46 AM PST

First of all now I am seriously considering the use of WiFi for distribution.
Today met few computer freaks mostly download addicts at an evening Chai party. Their expectations are of a 512kbps and 1mbps unlimited connection with constant speeds at around 500 and 1000 bucks. Most of them are using BSNL 512kbps unlimted plan @750 + tax. Another part they insisted was on LAN gaming and file sharing. Gaming will need much bandwidth and may be offered at a later stage when fibre backhaul is used. Still LAN for file sharing can be set up for limited people (taking legality in account).
I also presented them an idea to offer discounts if they let me hang antennas on their roofs + power connection. Few did show interests. Telecom companies have really raised the bar.

I have divided the city in 6 zones and thinking of covering area wise. 2 zones are the most difficult to cover for concentrated population, maximum uneven houses like 1 single floor house surrounded by big houses. Strictly you cant hang an antenna on neighbours house without paying him bucks.

Quote:

What are the chances of putting antennas on the rooves of peoples houses or apartment blocks in order to receive the signal and then running the cable from the roof to the subscribers home?
This is the suitable solution for now. I am trying to build a design with more antennas for stronger 2.4ghz signals so NLOS can also be served specially in those 2 zones. Although working NLOS is a big risk.

Quote:

You mentioned in a previous post 512k - presumably this will be unlimited plans?
Yes 512kbps unlimited plan has to exist to compete with BSNL 750 plan. Also a 256kbps starter plans to capture GPRS and data card users.

Quote:

Why stop at only 512k? (Why be the same as every other provider around - or against Tata etcs offerings, presumably, slower than them?) UBNT's hardware is capable of far faster speeds.
I have plans for upto 2mbps. In first stage target is home users. 2mbps limited plans should do the work.
I will raise the bar if leased line prices permit.

Quote:

How fast of a leased-line are you expecting to purchase?
Seriously this is where I am totally stuck and have the least idea on prices and the way they calculate prices. The hunt for leased line providers will start next week. There are few companies offering services at 80km from here. Will start with them. Till now whoever I had talk to didnt had POP nearby and will cost high through other last mile providers.

Taking 300 customers and a contention ratio of 1:10(or 15). I would not need anything more than 10mbps (e2 8mbps can work). Later upgrade to e3 when covering business subscribers.
Also met a local cyber cafe owner who showed interest. The bandwidth demand will rise If I can convince cafe owners to migrate.

Quote:

How much are you expecting to charge per subscriber for whatever services you end up providing?
I am expecting to price:

512 - 1mbps @ 200 - 1.5 gb cap. (for people to get a taste of broadband)
256 kbps @ 400 - unlimited
512 kbps @ 600 - unlimited
upto 2mbps @ 500 - 6 gb cap.
and so on...

I am ready to transfer the best price to consumers preferably after returning investments and self supporting capex in 12 months.
The main costs involved is of CPE which costs anywhere around $50 and leased line (prices still unknown). I plan on offering CPE without any charge atleast to first 200 customers with installation charges around 500 bucks. Later on with long term commitments.

Lets see if I can implement these plans and thoughts at proposed level.

P.s: I am using Airtel gprs to write this post. My BSNL adsl connection is down from a day. EVDO from 2 months( they added a new tower near my house with no EVDO support). 3g from over 7 hours(whole city).

Reliance 3G package - tariff details!

Posted: 22 Dec 2010 09:04 AM PST

21GB for Rs.2100 at 21mbps is fine.
But, it won't take much time to finish those 21GB.

Suppose you have 3.6 mbps modem and if network coverage is good then,
Download Speed = 400KB/s (3.2mbit/s) (assumed)
Downloading time for 100MB = 256 seconds = 4 min 16 sec.
Downloading time for 1 GB = 2560 seconds = 42 min 40 sec.
So, downloading time for 21 GB = 53760 seconds = 896 mins. = 14 hr 56 mins. = less than a day

Note : This speed is calculated for 3.6mbps modem.
So, think at 21 mbps, it would take just 2 and half hours to finish those 21GB provided you have full fledged connectivity.
